Do you mind sharing how you did the green smoke? I’m painting the new underworlds skaven warband. One of them is jumping down into a cloud of smoke and I’m not sure how best to approach it.

Sure. It’s a base coat of White Scar, then Tesseract Glow, blended into Hexwraith Flame, blended into Dark Angels Green, blended into black.

Trousers highlighted, and a few other areas, like the reflection line on the hazard cable:

How you’re getting in and around to do the cabling I don’t know, I’m struggling with a necron overlord which was only made easier as I dropped it and a bit snapped off (so I can now get in to paint it)

It was tricky! The black stripes are pretty rough, but once you paint on the white reflection it sells the effect regardless I hope.

There's a bit of cloth and belt round the back that I can't get to at all. If I'd built the model myself I'd have left the sword off at least. Unfortunately the customer glued it before sending it to me. I had loads of mould lines and stuff to tidy up too.

Hate to rub it in @MattKBbut this is really fun to paint. Not finished yet, but I was able to get it to this stage after only a couple of sessions:

I’m not sure if I’m going to try and edge highlight the whole thing or not. It’s already had a dry-brush of silver in some areas. I might just do the legs.

I did the metallic base coats using damp brushing btw. If anyone hasn’t tried that I really recommend giving it a go as it’s so quick. Works with non-metallic paints too. Basically you prime it black, then use a round make up brush that’s slightly damp and with a lot of the paint wiped off. If you move fast and light you cover the model in seconds, and you leave the recesses black:

That’s ok I managed to snag one from forbidden planet when they flicked in and out of stock.

Did you dry brush all over the gold parts too? I’m toying with how to do the edge highlighting on some necrons, and I read silver highlights on where I’ve done retributor gold and other golds but bit nervous about that.

Oh good, I’m glad you got one!

I used Runelord Brass and Leadbelcher. No gold.

Reikland Fleshshade Gloss to shade the Runelord Brass (don’t have any Cryptek Armourshade), Black Templar on the “joints”, nuln oil on the legs.

I find Stormhost Silver too extreme a highlight on its own. So this has a selective dry brush of 50/50 Leadbelcher and Stormhost Silver, then some bits of pure Stormhost on some edges, most of which I’ve since knocked back with nuln oil as they were too clumsy/extreme.

I also glazed some thin Leadbelcher/Stormhost on curved areas to do a volumetric highlight.

Finished now. Great fun!

Thanks @Davros sock drawer

I’m working on these

Necron overlord where I’ve used runelord brass (with cryptek armourshade) and brass scorpion (with agrax gloss) and Necron royal warden with retributor armour gold for the skirt and decals, and runelord brass again with cryptek.

Leadbelcher for the metal with iron hands steel at points for highlights and on the blade. I went for a tesseract glow flowing through the scythe which I’m pleased with - the guide had it as caliban green but I just wasn’t keen. The overload has a screaming bell tailcoat but I need to glue that back on.

I actually played a game ofMiddle Earth Strategy Battle!.  A guy new ish to the hobby and new to the club.  He brought 700pts of Isengard against my Rivendell. We played a stright up tot he death scenario as we're both still learning the rules, and I eaked out a win by killing Saruman. Well, I say 'killing'. He got jumped by Elrond and Glorfindel. "Smeared across the landscape" is closer I think.
