Suggestions for house rules: The defending team aren't allowed in the other team's base at all. The attacking team aren't allowed to use sentry guns.

I could put a time limit on it, if it goes to sudden death then the defenders have won.

Sounds like it could be fun to give this a try (we could even try something similar on Well and Granary, turning them into Dustbowl-style maps). I don't agree with the attacking team not using sentries though. They're needed for protecting forward bases, which are essential for keeping up the pressure on stubborn defences.

The time limit is a good idea to give things some urgency (its amazing how many captures in Dustbowl come from the desperate last push). We also need to give the defenders 60 sec at the start to set up.

Fair enough. Ditch the first two ideas and just keep the time limit. We'll wait until there's a full compliment there before doing the custom game.

Loads of Americans came in and complained about lag. I killed the game.

I'll talk about the custom game tomorrow. Nothing bad, but a rule change for future tries. And maybe a moan. Grumble. Alright, something bad. But not that bad. I'm clearly still annoyed by it, but it just needs a rule change.

It was confusing! It's not like when we got the intelligence you let us amble back to base with it, you put up defense even when the intelligence was captured, even when it had left your base. After you said we could go into people's bases I figured we could do everything but capture the intelligence. But I'll know for next time now.

When we were defending, we stepped back to protect our Intelligence room as soon as you got it into your base. You had nothing from our side attacking you once you crossed your threshold. You must have seen that, that's why you played your game why you did. You must have known that we wouldn't expect that kind of attack.

Actually, we did cross your threshold. Only in defence of our intelligence though.

It was certainly a surprise! Technically none of the rules were broken, it just went against the spirit of what we were trying to achieve. We wanted to see how things went when the two teams are freed from the necessity to attack and defend at the same time. By setting up the sentry and teleport right into our base it meant that our team had to divide our attentions between capturing the intel AND liberating our own intel room!

Personally I thought that it was the highlight of the night. I really enjoyed the game because it was such a fresh experience. It was actually a genious move, my hat goes off to you. However, next time we should maybe include a new rule: defending engineers cannot build sentries in the opposition's intel room or in the downstairs corridors!!!

At the start of the custom game I said to our team "Careful lads, Mark is a strategic genius.". Oh how that came back to bite me on the arse.

We know there was no malice or anything, not like when SOMEBODY ruined the Melee Attacks Only game. It's just that we clearly weren't defending our intel room. That was the whole point of the game, we didn't have to. While no rules were broken, that principle was exploited.

Anyway, I should move on from that issue, or I'll just end up old and bitter. Damn, too late. :D

Next week, I hope we can try the same thing on Well. I think the defending team should initially capture the central and the next point while the attacking team waits at their base. Once the second point has been taken, the attacking team should move out. One thing to be careful of here is the timer that exists between each capture.

I didn't think the custom rules on 2fort would work (to me the whole map is about having to let down your defence when you go on the attack, and vica versa), but it did and it was a lot of fun.

Apologies for waiting outside your spawn room with a flamethower while you were doing your 60 second wait when we were on defence. My team all told me off for that, but I couldn't resist because I thought it would be funny.

LOL. I'd completely forgotten that.

things I have learnt about mark on TF2-

when attacking on dustbowl, mark cloaks himself and goes to the enemies base, sapping all the equipment theyve set up there.

When you take down the teleporter entrances you take the first step towards crippling a defence. I might stop doing that now though.

Hopefully. I'll probably have my machine die a few times as well . Toony, if I pm you "I" it's short for "I'm sorry but my machine has crashed again, and the invite you just sent me hasn't worked for reasons unknown. I would be most grateful if you could send another one my way. With thanks, Mark."
