The Halo 3 aftermath thread

????

Surely that isn't possible and doesn't happen?

Well one of the people on my friends list I was playing with the other day told me that "If a voice stutters, then that person is the host. If the network finds a better host during play, it will switch seamlessly". Sorry if I made it come across as being fact.

I'm pretty sure you can't tell if you're host from in-game, which makes standbying a bit harder to start with. More importantly, Bungie say they have secret measures of detecting network abuse, and they're about to ban people who've been doing it. Proper banning them hard, as in the console can never play Halo 3 again.

Oooh, okay!

Edit: jokingly snide but shit and not funny comment removed and replaced

Come on, I can take it.

Yeah, that guy was definitely talking bollocks.

Oh ok, that does sound reasonably sensible now. Far too late for me to change, though.

Why? I adapted fine earlier. I think I'll be back normal with it within a few days.

I think it works quite well. My biggest worry was the shotgun/melee combo (with them both being on the same trigger finger). It works fine though as you can melee with the inside of the bottom of your finger and shoot with the top as normal.

The special items on the d-pad is a bit of a drawback but it's not like you're deploying them every couple of seconds.

Hey Meerman, just watched those movies you sent in game. All I have to say is "Its Bullsheet"

I have those things happen in matchmaking so often I find myself hating the games online component. I didnt think it could be worse than some of the things seen in Halo 2, but I guess I was wrong

If there aren't any button configs to your liking and you don't mind an exceptionally early onset of arthritis, then you could always go for:

THE CLAW!

Hey, that's exactly how I used to play Halo 2! I never got on with whatever the click-to-mêlée configuration is called (is it Green Thumb?)

Instead, I just used to use my index finger for beatdowns so I wouldn't have to take my right thumb off the stick. (I used to play Southpaw as well, which made this quite important because if I took my thumb off the right stick, I couldn't move.)

It was a hangover from playing Fur Fighters on the Dreamcast, y'see. Movement was on the four face buttons and look was on the analogue stick. When I got an Xbox and Halo, I carried on with the nearest equivalent of the same controls.

This scheme saw me happily through single-player in Halo 1 and 2, as well as many online games of 2.

I stopped playing Halo 2 quite a while ago, though. I had let my old 'beenabadbunny' Live account lapse and didn't get a new one until I got my 360.

So when the Halo 3 beta came out it was the first FPS I'd played in about 12 months. For some reason, I just couldn't get my head around Southpaw any more. I now use the default controls (Y inverted, sensitivity about 7 or .

I have no idea what switch got flipped inside my head. It does make beatdowns a bit easier, though I'm still curious to try some of the alt schemes that people have been talking about on this thread. Beatdown on RB sounds like it could be very good for me.
