Forge Creations

I've got one underway, a big free-for all type affair. basically, I've set up a construct in the middle of a valley of sand, that contains most weapons in the game, in one area. You're given Assault Rifles by default, and spawn near 3 mongooses, a wraith and 3 rocket launchers. The aim? Secure the centre before the other team, with it's sword, hammer, RL, other weapony goodness. But beware! There are fusion coils down there too :(

I need testers for this, if anyone fancies it, add me, Evil Rock Kizza, and we'll test it!

I'm dicking around with an idea on Last Resort, involving several mongoose, waypoints, VIP's and grav lifts. It started out as a kind of race, till I realised that wouldn't work very well. If I ever end up happy with it, I'll let you know and upload to my file share.

So I'm putting out my first effort on Forge, under the name "Jumps and Loops". It's a racing game on a heavily modified Last Resort for 1-4 players, with the first to pass 25 checkpoints the overall winner. It's played using teams (of one) which I know is a bit fiddly, but it's the only way it'll work right now. I'm keen to get some feedback on it to see how it might be improved, so please feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions or problems.

You'll need the map and game variant, both of which can be found on my file share or off the bungie forums, presumably. I don't know how you'd go about doing the latter, so if someone can post the details on my behalf, I'd be grateful.

seriously though preach, i reckon it's a quality creation. we really need to try it out proper. i'd be up for helping out in making it perfect to if you like?

I had a drive round the map earlier but couldn't work out what game variant we were sposed to play. How do we download the game variant then?

I didn't go with the stairs thing in the end - it's pretty much as it was before we had a snoop around it. :D

I reckon folk would be up for this as Rocket Race went down a storm last night. I'll get it downloaded and those who join me again tonight can help test it out. Get yourselves in the Sunday Night Halo 3 thread if you wanna join us and see how it plays out.

EDIT: Just had a drive round it. It was hard enough with just me. This is gunna be silly fun with 4 teams of 2 on it.

It wouldn't work with teams of two. The only reason it's in teams is because having a waypoint system required I use the VIP gametype. It's 4 teams of 1, but with very good reason.

Might as well add my one.

Back in Halo 1 Tracer, a friend and myself invented a game which we called Killing Room. It used the level Damnation and you could only kill whilst in a certain room, it made for some mental really close battles. Probably sounds quite shit but we found it fun.

I recreated it today with some changes, it's now King of the Hill style, you get points when you hold the room by yourself and you get points for killing other players. The only problem is whilst outside the room you lose points and you're invulnerable so you've got to go to the hill to get kills and hang about in there to stop losing points.

There's two files in my file share, the game type and an edited snowbound.

I've not been able to test it though so it could be really unbalanced/hard to get a decent score and probably not best with large groups.

I've added "Pistols at Noon" to my fileshare. 2 players only. Both players spawn facing away from each other. The object of the game is to "satisfy demand" by turning around and shooting the one who offended you so. First to ten wins, but take note: only headshots count as a kill.

Let us know what you think. It's up on my fileshare and I've uploaded it to bungie.net.

Game variant

and the

Map variant

Mad props preach. I played this last night split screen, and it's lots of fun.

Glad to hear it man! I started work on a team-variant where winners stayed on and the loser would be replaced by their team mate. I say "started work on" but the idea never really left my head, once I realised it couldn't be done.

Shit, ain't it? Would've been AMAZING. Anyway, people need to start making stuff! I don't wanna be the only person doing this! I'm working on something for between 4-8 players now. I'll let you know once I've figured out what it is. :s

I haven't looked at how to do this yet but it sounds great (love the sound of pistols at noon :)) and I'll definitely see if I figure it out soon. A friend invited me to his creation last night and it was brilliant.

Is it hard to use?

Initially, no. Dicking around with it at first ought to reveal enough for you to get by, but the more advanced controls (like holding down right trigger to rotate things) aren't immediately obvious. Beyond that, it's only other level of complexity lies with item attributes, which you can change by highlighting an item and pressing "x". This will allow you to change variable both common across the board and unique to just that one item.

common variable: respawn time

unique variable: width/height of a waypoint, for instance.

If that's not enough to go on, try Bungie.net's how-to, which starts off with basic, moves onto object editing and finishes with advanced editing.

Have fun!

Excellent, thanks. Been playing around with it for 10 minutes, although the clock seems to think two hours have passed. :)

Brilliant stuff. I'll definitely work on something and bring it here if it turns out to be any good.

I'm sure you could do that, but you'd need to fiddle with the lobby sizes manually. I know that I accidentally set a Halo 2 game once which had people sitting out, who then came in when a person died to take over their spot. I can't remember the settings though, I'll have to take a look at the weekend.

It's "force even teams", which even if it were practical to use, is oddly abesent from any game settings ;) Trust me dude, I looked.

That Loops race is great fun, Preach. I'm tempted to try it with Ghosts instead of Mongeese to see if that helps even things up, because despite the cunning checkpoint placement you can still maintain a lead if you get one. But that jump over the 'windmill' is ace.

I've been toying with 'Wave Race 360', which is a Ghost race through the waterways on Valhalla, but getting those mid-air checkpoints set up can be a bastard. There are plenty of opportunities for good placement, though.

I might as well ask this here as well.

I want to make a version of British Bulldogs. This would basically be like king of the hill crossed with infection. One person starts in the middle and is infected and invincible. Everyone else is at one end of the map, and the aim is to get to the zone at the other side. The infected score a point for anyone they kill and bring to their side, non-infected score a point for reaching the goal. The round ends and this repeats until everyone is infected.

Can that actually be done?
