Kiryu should be the protagonist of every game. Ganon would get fucked up about 5 minutes after Kiryu stepped outside the tutorial area.

Only after Kiryu completes all of the training missions for each style...

Pretty sure that’s the size of the full game.

Yep, turns out Sega accidentally managed to release the whole game for free instead of the demo. Since been pulled, but people on Twitch playing the full version complete with trophies.

I didn’t download it because I wanted to go in fresh. In some ways I’m still glad I didn’t as I want to support the devs. But man, I could be playing Yakuza 6 this weekend.

Raises even more questions about the decision to delay it to go head to head with GoE.

I think we may have reached peak Sega.

EDIT: Seems it may have been in the US only and EU got the correct version?

Played the EU demo and it looks like it's indeed the full beginning of the game with a bunch of stuff locked out. No arcades for example and it ends at a certain point. Easy to see how they could get it mixed up in the US and a bit of a lazy way to cut a demo.

I have to say, as a massive fan of the series, that this is not a good demo. Like I mentioned earlier, it's just the entire beginning of the game which means an overwhelming amount of cutscene catch-up and set-up for the whole game. Either you're a veteran player and you'd rather watch all that once you have the full game. Or you're a new player and are turned off as the umpteenth cutscene starts after non-stop cutscenes for 45 minutes.

I started skipping them and even then it took aaaaages to get through. Not a problem in the full game of course, where you'll want to bask in the glory of it all, but bad for a quick demo.

At a certain point you're let loose in Kamurocho and *this* would have been the perfect starting point for the demo. All the tutorials are even placed from this point onwards. Except for the melee combat one which is part of the very first (and very cool) cutscene. Keep that scene, then skip ahead to the open world bit. That would make a far better impression.

Anyway, it's a brand new engine and it's... weird. This new engine allows for interiors and rooftops to form part of a single, cohesive world. Think Witcher 3, no more loading screens into a separate area when you enter buildings. That's cool but the new look that comes with it takes some getting used to. Everything looks weirdly chunky, streets look less detailed (no more trash everywhere like in Zero and it a lot less random stuff it seems). The streets also feel smaller, narrower somehow. And emptier in terms of pedestrians. Anyone else? Or is it just me?

Not as good a first impression as I'd hoped then, but I am feeling a bit ill and didn't want to do much beyond running around and have a few fights. I have no doubt I'll love the full game as much as all the others :)

Edit: the fights have some real-time physics to them which also takes some getting used to! It just feels different.

@Mr. Gerbik hear what your saying and agree that it’s far from the best demo to sell the series to newcomers. Personally I really enjoyed the cutscenes and felt very nostalgic but can understand why many will want to wait for the full release to enjoy them in all there glory.

At at least now when it drops through our letterboxes in less that 2 months we can jump right in to

Spoiler

Little Asia and uncover more around the Tojo Clan - Triad feud

Gameplay wise it does feel different and going back to one fighting style is going to be a change of pace from Zero and Kiwami.

On a positive note I’m a fan of vending machines everywhere which give you different status effect bonuses which saves heading to Kotobuki Pharmacy all the time.

Its Yakuza and after the fourth in the series I would never of dreamed of getting 5, 0, Kiwami and now 6 so for me all aboard the hype train and see how Kazuma’s journey ends...

This is the worst demo in history. Played for an hour, actually played for about 3 minutes.

Of course, as a Yakuza fan I happily sat through the cut scenes, but if I was new to the franchise, It would have been impenetrable and a complete turn off.

Sega are so inept, so fucking useless, it pains me to see them fuck up everything at every chance they get.

The fact they released the entire game on the US PSN instead of the demo is just incompetence of the highest order...are they deliberately trying to kill the small chance this game has?

Also played the demo last night, and I loved it.

I agree that it’s not a friendly demo for first time players. But as a long time Yakuza fan I am stoked to finish Kiryu’s story. So many feels seeing the orphanage and Haruki again. I’m happy they are toning down the scale for this final part of the story. Yakuza 4 and 5 got way too convoluted for my taste with overcomplicated plots and multiple playable characters.  This has mostly been Kiryu’s story for the last 10 years, and it’s fitting it ends with him.

I thought the new engine looked great. It’s so nice to be able to walk into shops or get into combat without loading screens. The menu’s and map got a nice update too and are a lot more practical to use. It all feels a bit more like a GTA or The Witcher. And one of my crushs (Yoko Maki) is in it.

I didn’t notice the world was less detailed than previous games. It’s true that Yakuza 0 had trash everywhere, but I think that was an 80’s thing. None of the other games had it. Tokyo is very clean too these days.

Yeah, Zero did go a bit overboard with the amount of trash, but it just struck me as if there's noticeably less stuff and/or random items lying about. Maybe it's just me, because I have seen anyone else note that the big main streets seem narrower than before. As I said, I'm feeling a bit under the weather and that's maybe not the best mindset to start judging such things.

I have never heard of her, but I immediately thought you must be referring to the beautiful woman from the opening cutscene in the bar. I just googled that name and, yep it's her and she's drop dead gorgeous.

Used to be Sunflower orphanage right or am I imagining that? Can’t even remember when it changed name.

I can not remember where and if the name ever changed but the demo mentions "Sunflower" during the recap of all previous games. I highly doubt the localization team messed up.

This is Sega we're talking about!

This is Yakuza localization. I am not familiar with Japanese in the slightest, but isn't the translation and localization considered to be of high quality by those who are familiar with Japanese (I am not) and localization (I am)?

I'm assuming "Morning Glory" is closer to the original Japanese than "Sunshine".

Yes because in the original Japanese version the orphanage is actually named after the Morning Glory flower. 'Asagao', literally 'morning face' but called Morning Glory in English.

So it's now finally translated correctly, but only for this very last game about Kazuma :)

Yakuza 6 demo is available in the Store. Just go to demos.

edit: I hope you like cutscenes and exposition.

I know - what a totally unfriendly way for any people new to the series to experience the game. Infact I got to the fifth or sixth one and turned it off....

(and I usually love Yakuza games)
