All things Yakuza/Like a Dragon! - new games announced

5 is an unexpected treat. It must have been developed as the 'final' Yakuza game at the time, and the developers clearly had so much love for the franchise and characters that they went all out with it, and created a little-known masterpiece.

Working my way back through Kiwami on Legend difficulty for the last couple of trophies and having maxed out stats plus Tiger Drop has made most battles pretty trivial (very satisfying to return to that initial slog of a battle versus Shimano and just slug him in the gut until he's down) but that highway chase section is a nightmare and has halted all progress. I am hoping that complaining about it on the internet will mean I easily clear it on the next attempt, as is tradition.

Been playing 3 after a bit of a break after completing Kiwami 2.  I don’t think the drop in polish is made any less jarring by a lot of the stuff pre going back to Kamurocho being super tedious. Chapter 4 especially, which is basically “hey Kiryu you need to go back to Kamurocho…but first go find this dog….then go back and forth for items three times…..then have a game of baseball….then go do some shopping”.  It’s just really drawn out and not interesting.  It does pick up a little after, but it does feel quite rough up to then.  Also a lot of the mini games are not that great.  Golf especially feels bad, much worse than the later games, which sucks when you have to do it as part of the story.

I was tempted skip straight to 4 after the umpteenth time on chapter 4 I was asked to do some bullshit errand before I could leave, but I really want to have played all of the series and it’s not that long really….

I liked the small town slice of life Shenmueness of those early Yak 3 goings, but that’s just me. It was definitely a gear I had to put myself into to properly appreciate the vibe. Like watching a clunky old movie type of thing. Once you’re in that groove it’s not an issue.

Finally earned the Platinum trophy for Kiwami this evening. Less to do than Zero but a few things were a wee bit tougher. I thought the Climax Battles might take me forever but luckily the toughest few were at the start.

I'm gonna try just mainline Kiwami 2, maybe. Probably. I really wanna catch up.

If you're going to mainline any of them, 3 and 4 are the ones IMHO. They're a fair bit jankier than any of the others and the combat and mini-games can be rough.

Kiwami 2 and 5 especially are worth spending the time on.

I second this @joffocakes. I'm a Yakuza expert and I support this post. This is the way.

But if you're tired of 100%ing them, I'd prioritize 100%ing 5 and 6 over Kiwami 2.

I'm still on Y0 (which is awesome btw), and I plan on playing the others as well at some point, but might be skipping the third and the fourth one, unless they make a kiwami version of those.

I really wouldn't skip them, the main stories in both are still great and there's plenty of story stuff that carries over to later games. They're both pretty short if you want to just blast through them on Easy.

I almost did that when I clocked the lot but held off just in case. Glad I did, no ruined story for me :)

It wasn’t a play through of the game. A series about the actual Sakamoto Ryoma, look him up.

I'm relieved not to have to rush Kiwani now, plenty of time.
