Finally clocked Yak 5 at around 50 hours. For the most I've enjoyed this but the 4th character was such a waste of time that it removed a lot from the story, rather they'd have brought the cop back from the last game for that bit. The whole thing just felt way too long and couldn't understand why the last part was so padded, has a very natural finish then.. there's a huge other section. Hoping 6 is better.

Kiwami completed with a 49% completion rating. I'm not sure if it's because I was playing on easy but I ended up with a Majima Everywhere rating of F because I didn't see him again after chapter 4. Onto Kiwami 2 which I'm really looking forward to because I bought but never played the original on PS2.

Shinada's story was a bit filler, but I ended up loving the chemistry between him and his loanshark mentor Takasugi. In fact the whole chapter was worth it for Takasugi alone IMO and the amazing VA brought to his character by Sho Aikawa, who's from the same school of trashy 90s yakuza flicks as Y0's Riki Takeuchi and Hitoshi Ozawa.

They could have easily scrapped Shinada and have Takasugi show up in another chapter though, definitely. I guess they just wanted to fit a baseball match fixing storyline in there somewhere.

I love the way Y5 is just so much Yakuza crammed down your gob that you struggle to handle it all. All you can eat ga gotoku. So good.

I’m up to chapter 13 (I think) of K2 after another marathon session today. I’m supposed to be taking Haruka sightseeing round Sotenbori (which seems a bit of a weird change of pace given the life threatening events of the story so far but it’s entirely in keeping with how I’ve been playing: always putting off going after the baddies if there’s the opportunity to do the voiceover in a gay porn game or catch a panty thief in action) but I’m neglecting my quasi-parental responsibility by leaving her standing outside Four Shine while I manage a team of young and not so young ladies to efficiently extract cash from rich men, and occasionally take some of them on dates. From time to time I go outside and she’s patiently waiting for me, and I wish the game let me give her a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps, but it doesn’t so, sorry Haruka, back into the club I go.

A few chapters ago I had a sort of date with Sayama which was really moving but also gave me the sinking feeling that (speculation)

Spoiler

she’s not going to survive to the end of the story.

But I hope I’m wrong!

Only a few hours into Y6 and

Spoiler

Kiiryu is being led into the Tojo manor, the look on his face when he says I thought I'd washed the stench of the Tojo off by now was priceless. Then they walk him inside and he's looking over the table that's replaced all of the chairs and tells them he will destroy them if he gets in the way of him and Haruka was amazing. I thought he was going to stand up right there and break the table in two 🤣

@Lorfariusloving your write ups and following your epic journey through this amazing series! I assume Like a Dragon next? :)

The Judgment games are also brilliant btw.

Nah, clocked that first. It's what made me go back to the others. But bought Judgment so that will be on the playlist soon.

Loving Judgment, so good, a real nice change of pace. They've really nailed the game engine, it's so fluid entering into combat now.

My wife actually likes watching me play, she'd been listening in for the last few yakuza with great interest. Of course I steered well clear of the gravure photo shoots while she's in the vicinity.

Ah, ok :) But now, after playing through almost all of them you can imagine how EPIC it was for long time fans like me when in Like A Dragon (DON'T CLICK MASSIVE SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT YET. MASSIVE)

Spoiler

first when Majima and Saejima appear to tag team you to death - holy shit! And then when Kiryu turns up out of NOWHERE to lend a helping hand - EPICNESS

Like A Dragon is a perfect starting point and completely stand-alone but even so they managed to insert a few fantastic fanservice moments for the old fans

I'm half contemplating doing another run of LAD when I'm done. Loads of it just didn't make sense and the towns were mostly unfamiliar, so different having seen everything develop over the decades.

People who haven't played Yakuza yet: man, those are a lot of long-ass games, seems daunting!

People who play Yakuza: IMMA REPLAY ALL OF THEM ONCE I FINISH ALL OF THEM

I done finished Kiwami 2 on Monday but still have the entire Majima chapters to play through. Loved the game.

Then it's straight onto Yakuza 3. Omg it's so janky and I really miss the QOL improvements the Kiwami games and 6 introduced.

I'm just back in Kamuro and on Chapter 5.  Story just picking up just super confused by

It's really short and ties up his story nicely from 0 so well worth playing through. It's not like the main game where you need to build EXP.

My other half walked in on me taking one of the hostess girls out on a date to raise her stats. I tried explaining it all but now if I'm seen playing any Yakuza game, I'm asked if I'm enjoying playing my Japanese prostitute dating game  ☹️

hahaha!

...could be worse, she could be watching you choose their outfits and makeup.

My wife was watching intently as I went into a brothel and requested a girl from the menu...luckily it was an ambush.

"I wanna be your girl woooooo"

Yeah I probably sunk a scary amount of time into that mini game in 0 and K2.

Look, I had no choice but to dress her in a bikini and high heels, it’s the only combo that gives her three S rank stats!

We've all been there.

I did the model photography minigame as well in Kiwami 2 cos I was told there was a reward.

It's a shit reward and I just felt like I needed a bath afterwards. Suffice it to say, I didn't bother with the second model.

I’ve not even found that one… thankfully?

Just by the entrance to what used to be the homeless park and what was the bar Vincent in Kiwami 1 and 0.

Up the stairs or use the lift.

Be prepared to want a good scrub afterwards.
