All things Yakuza/Like a Dragon! - new games announced

I hope the remasters get localized! Chances may not be 100% certain. Sure, the last few games have sold well in the west. However, it sounds like these remasters of 3, 4 and 5 are going to be smaller and more rushed releases. I wouldn't be surprised if they were digital-only.

Due to the quickness of their release dates, I can't imagine they are getting a full Kiwami treatment. I think they'll just be 1080/4k ports. That's good enough for me, never having owned a PS3, although it may feel like a step backwards after the newer game engine.

I'm more worried about burnout. I already feel a little burned out by playing Zero, Kiwami and 6 in the space of 18 months.

What about Dead Souls?

I know it has its fans even though I personally didn't get on with it at all - but even so I would argue that they remaster* and rerelease the two samurai spin-offs Kenzan and Ishin in the west before considering Deaf Souls.

*Ishin is already available on PS4 as it was a cross-gen release like Zero. I would love a Yakuza Samurai collection release of both games on PS4 translated for us in the west, but I know it's very unlikely to happen. - Dead Souls probably has a far bigger chance of getting a rerelease.

It already says so in the article - upres and better performance. As per the title, they're remasters not remakes like Kiwami. And they don't need to be, since they haven't aged nowhere near as bad as 1 and 2 on a technical level.

It being a relatively quick and easy portjob and (likely) digital release has its advantages:

-it means that we're getting these remasters in the first place - if the cost of a re-release gets too high, it makes it not worth bothering with. Yakuza, for all its succes, is still niche - especially in the west.

-also makes it more likely that we'll get them translated in the west. Again, a cost issue - a digital release is simply more doable.

- a simple remaster instead of a full Kiwami means little, if any, changes. Which means the existing translations for the PS3 versions are usable, which means less cost, which means bigger chance of western release!

(the only issue would be with 3 and its cut content - that wasn't translated back in the day and that would mean spending time and money on either additional translation work or going back in and making the same cuts)

The most important thing is that we're getting these at all because it's awesome having Kiryu's entire arc all on one platform. A platform that will likely be fully BC going forwards, allowing us to go back and play them on our PS5s, while these games would otherwise be lost to time on an 'abandoned' platform.

Update 5:25 a.m.: The remaster announcements are also featured in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, which has gone up with an online preview.

The magazine clarifies that the contents of the remasters will be the same as the original games, but will run in 1080p resolution and at 60 frames per second. Development on the Yakuza 3 remaster is currently 90 percent complete.

Yakuza 3 was pretty poo to be honest. Storyline was just stupid, cut content and lots of dad-ness.

I have a soft spot for it, though maybe because it was my first Yakuza. Have to disagree somewhat about the storyline, which was so plausible it went on to actually happen in real life (the military base political scandal stuff).

Oh, the political intrigue part was good it was the part with

BIG YAKUZA 3 SPOILERS

American Kazama being all Albert Wesker-esq that spoiled it for me. Plus some of the day-to-day life of those orphanage kids didn't appeal.

I think you need to save initially at the very first phone box you see. I missed it the first time and naively thought there’d be some sort of auto save in place...it was a bit of a bugger realising I’d lost hours of play time!

Always from the Options menu.

Or if you like it old school, at the phone booths around town.

You sure the save anywhere thing is not just Kiwami? (If so, I managed to play through the entirety of Zero without realising that.. doh!)

Blast, you are correct. In 0 you can only save at phone booths.

I altered my post, thanks.

Just finished Yakuza 4

Yakuza 0 / Yakuza 4 spoilers:

The scene where Majima gets beat up and eye taken out - obviously a bit more context given in 4 in that it was that hit he ducked out of with Saejima. Im wondering if the details are presented exactly the same in both games - I can't remember if the context was given in Zero...)

My current Yakuza Order:

0 > 2 > 4 > 1 > 3

2 leading for me but only just, looking forward to revisiting it in August with Kiwami 2.

+Nagoshi believes/guess 6's sales are now around 800K.
+Nagoshi says there won't be cut contents in 3-5 remaster. The host girl emphasizes you can play the massage mini game in RGG3 lol(edited)

My favourites in order from best to worst.

0 > 2 > 1 > 5 > 4 > 3 > 6

6 was a huge dissapointment for me, wasn't the send off I wanted for Kiryu. Really dropped the ball and ended up being quite similar to alot of the other games and the way they wrapped up. Also felt smaller and had a lack of features and gameplay.
