The Escapist: Zero Punctuation

If it's not a highly conventional action/adventure game with a cutscene-driven plot, you can guarantee that Yahtzee will just complain about how he doesn't get the genre and how there isn't a plot.

Like Portal.

Weird thing is that i can see pretty much where he's coming from with every criticism and more often than not agree with them. I do however disagree with him about overall judgement of some of the games.

Overall in my opinion, he makes good points and makes an entertaining show. Sure it's not unbiased, sure it might not be pulitzer journalism, but it makes me laugh on the miserable wednesday evening.

Sure it's not unbiased

And what a lot off people fail to understand is that it's not supposed to be. (this is not directed at you btw) It's not a serious review, just his nitpicking and frustrations presented as entertainment. You either find it funny or you don't, and seriously criticizing the guy for being biased against the Wii (for example) is just silly and totally missing the point.

Agreed on the 'it's nitpicking as a form of entertainment'.

It's similar to Penny Arcade - to read their comics you'd think they hated games and games companies - which would make you wonder why they organise the largest gaming "con" there is - were that the case...

What they and Yahtzee do is take those frustrated little thoughts from the back of your mind and paint a picture from them - not everyone has had the thought and so not everyone gets the joke (some people clearly have no thoughts as they get none of the jokes!!) but that doesn't mean they're wrong...

Where Yahtzee (and PA - and others) stop working (for me at least) is when they start to jump on something too much. "The Wii is crap" or "XBOX controllers are enormous" - that's not a 'back of your mind' thought - that's an obsession :)

ugh, trying to stand out again! <_< Not that I've played it, maybe it IS good...

played last night and sent it back to LoveFilm with its tail behind it's legs. Very bland, like a gaming lettuce sandwich, no meat and wished I'd picked something else.

I thought sight jacking was a brilliant device that rarely went anywhere. I liked the parts with the little girl though as it's one of the only times you really have to use it.

He's right about the presentation and weapons. The game had its moments but I ran out of steam before I'd finished, which happens with 90% of the games I play these days anyway.

Bollocks as usual.

He should shut his face. The Chronicles of Riddick movie is brilliant. It has best dialogue.

Lord Vaako: This is your one chance. Take the Lord Marshal's offer and bow.

Riddick: I bow to no man.

Lord Vaako: He's not a man. He's the Holy Half-Dead who has seen the UnderVerse and returned with powers you can't imagine.

See?
