The Escapist: Zero Punctuation

Since I threw 2 years of my life into WoW I have to take some of his comments this week as - well - a bit insulting

He's right tho - why people are trying so hard to change a formula which works SO WELL (and which Garriott largely INVENTED anyway) I've no idea - WoW is a juggernaut which you'd be foolish to get in the way of - let alone try to be a 'different' in the face of it's oncoming enormity.

TR is OK - it's actually a pleasant change as far as it goes - but it's nothing special - and after 2 years of WoW I think I'm done with this sort of thing anyway. People less jaded about collecting 200 wolf spleens should take a peek tho :(

Meanwhile tho - I wonder if we'll get a Zero Punctuation about something he LIKES - would make a change methinks? As I said earlier - it's harder to be funny when you're not knocking things...

He reviewed Psychonauts, which he liked. That review was also funny.

He's better when ripping into things, but I don't see a problem with that. If he thinks something is bad he can rip into it, if he thinks he good he can rip into everything else like it's detractors/marketing/the industry in general for not giving it a chance, etc.

As i said before there's always something to dislike in the game industry, so he should have material for a long while yet.

I'm trying to think of one review he's done that I've disagreed with, and I can't think of any. He occasionally makes a point I'm not sure about, but overall he tends to be absolutely bang on the money.

That console comparison one was a bit shit, if I recall, but I've liked all his other stuff.

Bang on the money. Like always. I love him even more now that he has shown his hatred towards J-RPGs.
When he slagged off turn-based combat I wanted to weep with joy. It's not just me.

Thirded and high five!

And I still laugh even though I like JRPG's. There's just something about his delivery.

It would be interesting to see if he could trash I game I really like with me still liking the performance. Maybe he'll be forced to review FFXIII?

I don't remember having to do that wheel thing for 15 minutes. Wasn't there a way to bypass it by finding a load of cash? (I have the memory of a Goldfish).

It certainly doesn't take fifteen minutes. More like five, or probably less. Unless you didn't find the money and move up to the next wheel, and repeat that process.

It took me about three, but his point is still valid. What were the devs thinking, seriously.

Isn't there a joke at the end about it?

It's some kind of comment about games making you do random dull tasks for the sake of it. Running around a giant hamster wheel is usually a metaphor, but SPM has you actually doing that.

It's a bit of an Adaptation moment - if a game's deliberately shit, is it still shit?
