Wolverine & The Wolverine Thread

Wolverine's love interest was attractive, Emma Frost is not the one I know from the comics. Anyway the end fight should have been a massive scrap between Sabretooth and Wolverine for the finale.

This is it. The ending (and plot device) including Weapon XI is fucking woeful. One big ass scrap somewhere where there's loads of breakable shit between Loagan and Victor would have been epic.

Agreed the whole relationship between Sabretooth and Wolverine was great, the guy who played Viktor was great same guy from the Scream films right?. Anyway really good performance, I don't see the appeal of Wade at all in this film he's playing the same guy in Blade Trinity and again Deadpool is more like Mask in terms of energy and craziness.

Hard to judge when he literally gets about 2 lines.

Agreed on Schriebers performance though.

Also, is it just me or is his physique/training for the film even more impressive than Jackmans?

He's a fairly big bloke in most films, but in this he's practically twice his usual size!

It took $35M in the US on Friday, which puts it at 16 for biggest Friday openings, $200k behind Iron Man. That's a pretty decent start to be honest, but it depends on how it handles the rest of the weekend - a big Friday can sometimes translate to a film being front loaded, with the fans turning out on the first day, leaving the film lacking over the rest of the weekend.

A friend who had good judgment and who is a comic fan said it is definitely worth seeing. When I say he had good judgment, I am now doubting it as he is literally the only person I've heard say The Day The Earth Stood Still was good.

Good lord no! hugh-jackman-liev-schreiber-03.jpg

He's got a bulky frame in general, but to suggest there's been much training for the role doesn't seem to hold much water - and he certainly didn't put as much into that aspect as Jackman did.

Well, that wasn't too bad. Not too great either. Agree about the blades. They did look very cartoony at several points. Though I did think they looked pretty cool before their adamantium makeover.

The plot seemed to be a repeated sequence of Wolverine and Sabretooth running at each other for a tussle.

I didn't have a clue who half the characters were supposed to be. But then I'm not really well versed in X-men.

There is one thing I'm confused about, in the Bryan Singer X-Men film there was a character called Sabretooth and he looked like this:

sabretooth_xmen1.jpg

He also seemed to be no relation to Wolverine.

Yet in 'Origins' there is a character called Sabretooth who looks like this:

And is Wolverine's half-brother. What gives?

Having finally watched it I can honestly now say it's not as big a turd as the internerd would have you believe.

The film itself was pretty good and although it didn't quite take the slant I was expecting, it made pretty good sense out of a back story that was laid out and retconned about a billion times by the gumby's at Marvel. Liked the flashback sequences and while it would've been nice to see them expanded upon a little bit I think they built up a fair picture that Logan was doing these things more for his brother rather than himself and that when it came time to man up and show he had honour and wasn't just a stone cold killer like everyone thought, he could. After watching this I went back and watched X1 and it ties it in really quite well imo.

The characterisations were very good. Huge Ackman as always was good as Wolverine, will.I.am's portrayal of Wraith was exactly as I expected from his (short) appearances in the comics, Schrieber's Sabretooth was exactly as I hoped he would be ie; the original Alan Davis version from the "Marauders Massacre" storyline with a real sadistic and ultra violent edge and Danny Huston played a very good version of Stryker although he had big boots to fill thanks to Brian Cox.

The rest of the cast was adequate and I agree that it seemed liked they were just ramming characters into it left right and centre which became a bit much even for the first movie of what will probably become a series that involves some or maybe all of them at some point.

As for Deadpool/Wade Wilson, well seeing as

it's a totally different actor playing WeaponXI

I really don't think it's the last we'll see of Ryan Reynolds in the role so I'd expect a Deadpool movie at some point in the near future if the numbers are what is expected.

My take on the X1 Sabretooth and Origins Sabretooth differences is that if we ever see a film set after the events in X3 that involves Origins Sabretooth there will be something that says that X1 Sabretooth was just some guy that took on the name due to his look and Origins Sabretooth will only ever now be known as Victor Creed (albeit Tyler Mane does refer to himself playing Victor Creed in the extras of X1 but then it'll just be a case of clever editing on those extras).

Some of the wire stuff and SFX were a little bit dodgy but overall the ones that mattered were brilliant and the direction was very good. The score was good too although I'm pretty sure HGW once again "borrowed" music from some other films, as he generally does.

And after seeing a little snippet of the barfight on the X2 bluray I personally can't wait for the blu-ray of this as it's going to be grrrrr-eat :D

See this is it, I've not read any opinions outside of this thread and we all see to agree the worst that could be levelled at it is "meh".

I'm more disappointed in that it could be a massive nerdgasm of epic proportions and it just turned out to be wasted potential.

Looks like I'm gonna be forced to watch this later. Not holding out any hope. Except that there'll be at least some scenes of Sabretooth and Wolverine going at each other like feral beasts while growling snappy one-liners through gritted teeth. Please GOD they don't mess that up.

.::: OK is how I'd describe it as well. Nice to see I wasn't the only one going "huh?" at the blades. The bathroom scene was like he was wielding plastic... Was this done to overcome some kind of regulation to keep it 12+? Or did they spend all the 'metal' on Wade's blades? It felt wrong.

Movie was enjoyable, though mostly because of the great to-and-fro'ing between Wolverine and Sabretooth. Gambit was great, but his McGuffin role was kind of disappointing. Think this would have been better on DVD for me...

It's the same character. Although I don't remember Logan making anything of the fact that Sabretooth was his brother in the first X-men movie.

Is Sabretooth his brother in the comics?

It's never been made clear, through all of the comics that deal with them. They've known each other for a long time and he's as old as Logan at least (it's been indicated he may well be even older) but there's never been a Wolverine/Sabretooth origin story. The only link they have ever possibly had was that at one point Creed claimed to be Logan's father, though it was pretty certain he was just doing that to mess with him and now it's been confirmed that Origin is canon it's certainly not true and they definately aren't brothers.

If they ever do a sequel (god help us all) they'll probably explain that Victor Creed got experimented on further and turned into the hulking monster we see in X-Men 1.

Let's hope they fucking don't though.

See if they do do the Magneto Origins film I expect they might use it to explain that. Maybe in an effort to be bigger and stronger than Wolverine, in order to defeat him he goes under somekind of experiment.

Surely they'll use the Magneto film to show how Charles ended up in the wheelchair seeing as though he was standing at the end of that film. I thought the after credit scene might be something to do with Magneto meeting up with Victor for the first time, but I see there are two different endings, the one in the bar and the Deadpool one (Deadpool film?)

Also, did anyone think that Patrick Stewart looked slighty odd at all? Dunno what it was but he just looked a bit weird.

I thought they were just soldiers together or did ops together and are "brothers" in that aspect but Sabretooth was the bad one or Liquid Snake to Wolverines Solid snake

They're not related in the comics but are part of the last few of their race. Wolverine and Sabretooth are not mutants in the same way as everyone else is a mutant, all mutants are the evolved from of human, same way as humans are the evolved from of an ape. Wolverine and Sabertooth are humans but the come from a line of humans evolved from wolves (hence the feral nature) or something similar, I think Romulus is the oldest of their race.
