Well this is slated for a Q1 2008 release. But I have just watched the HD version (US PS store) of the trailer that we all had at mega zoomed out view during the conference and it has blown me away.

The physics look amazing, the character design genius, but what is really gonna set this apart is the "create" part of it.

Just look at forza 2 thread and see how much people like designing things and sharing it with others. Well this video really shows how adaptable that part of the game is going to be, with everything you insert having its own physical properties. The part where they created the toy tank and they roll it down a hill had me creaming my pants!

I really think this has potential to be GOTY 2008! CANT WAIT!

It's got the potential to be fantastic - as long as there's an 'out of the box' game to play and it's not completely sandbox.

It'll almost certainly be made available with a bunch of large downloadable levels...

Even if you have no imagination and cant be bothered doing any desings you can still download everyone elses.

Man, this brings back memories of the heady days designing tracks on kickstart 2 -_-

I don't see much fun in playing your own levels. I'd rather build levels for others, and then focus on playing other people's, rather than just play my own. But I agree with this:

This is definitely one of my most looked forward to games :D

I love the way you're essentially playing your levels as you're making them. It's great for play-testing, eg:

"Ok try that jump"

"Nope, gap's too big"

"Ok I'll make it smaller"

"Nah, it'd be more fun to put a rope swing above it or something"

"Cool, I'll do that"

"Too late bitch I already did it for you"

"...Fuck you"

Or whatever.

I think it looks really lovely, but I'm a little concerned over the complexity of the interface.

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching that video actually, and the complexity of building complex objects in general. They make it seem so simple, but you just know it's going to be something you need to get used to.

Chalk me up on the 'think it looks amazing' camp. NOt only that but it's one of the few times in the...oooh what 13 years of Edge? - that my daughter has looked at a game and said what is that I really want to play it. The last time she did that was for Wind Waker. More over she then spent a couple of days making up little chartacters and sets to resemble the game.

When I get a PS3 - cos there's no doubt I would get one one day but not at the price it stands at - it would be for LBP. Wipeout is a bonus (although the trailer didn't do it for me a little too worryingly dark skied fusion for my liking), MGS has never caught me gameplay wise, Heavenly Sword.... looksalright and all that. LBP looks like fun and genius blended together.

I predict a 200 page thread but it'll start banging on about how it would be more fun on the Wii about page 5 or 6.

Oh my god, just think, on the wii you could point at were you want the obstacles to go!!

I love the idea of the customisation of the characters as well.

As I mentioned in my first post, Forza shows given the right tools that people love being able to put a personal spin on their games. To design a level for this game, then for it to show in your stats for instance how many times people have played it, how many times its been downloaded and the top ten times for completing are, is simply an amazing hook for me.

It reminds me of something on the Amiga but I can't remember what. I really can't wait for this game. As long as the community stuff is setup well, decent "top 10 levels" and "10 top designers", etc... where you can rate and comment on levels, filter out the shit ones.... maaan it has so much potential.
