Why has this Ancic match not gone to a tiebreaker?

The final set never goes to a tiebreaker, it is the same in the womens game.

EDIT: To clarify this only applies to the fifth set in a five set match or the third set in a three set match, that is what I meant by final set.

That's stupid.

Only Wimbledon, isn't it? I thought the other Grand Slams have final set tie-breakers now.

Edit - Google says it's just the US Open where they have a final set breaker.

Why? If a match has gone the distance, I'd rather play to the death (so to speak), than have it all wagered on a knife-edge tie break.

Yea, but matches get 'decided' in a less final way a lot of the time by tiebreakers. It seems a bit wierd to avoid doing so in a 2-2 set match just out of decency.

Sure, a lot of matches are won on tie breaks, but of course they're a necessary evil in the sense that you can't have every set going the distance the way the game is played these days. I'd argue that the system is deemed a little too much of a shoot-out to decide a match that has gone the distance. I don't think decency's got anything to do with it. The system works for me.

In a lot of lower level tennis (and now the mens' doubles on the tour, I believe) they play something called a champions tie break deciding set, which is first to 10 - I guess designed to make it a little less of a shoot-out than a standard breaker.

What time do they play to at Wimbledon? If Murray can take this set, and it resumes tomorrow, I think he's got a good chance still.

They played til something like 9pm the other night, so quite late.
