utopastac
I think it makes me draw more interesting if Safin wins. Someone a bit older with a bit more character and playing well? I'll take that. I take back what I said about Djokovic earlier in the thread, he doesn't have the game for grass yet.

It was destruction. I think Federer just has the variety to undo him in a way Djoko doesn't. Besides, IF Safin wins (and I still can't quite believe it 100%), he's just so hot and cold these days that you can't assume anything.

Miner Willy
5-2. Surely he can do it from here? Wouldn't mind seeing him break here, to save the pressure of serving it out.

Oh, for sure, but I reckon he'll at least make it through the draw to get to the semi. I don't think Federer would be destroying him today like last year, he's serving too well - he certainly wouldn't have had so many breaks though. It's not like he's been inspired, Djokovic has just been rubbish. Like he didn't really wake up properly. 9 double faults? Make that 10. Terrible performance. Miner Willy
Oh, for sure, but I reckon he'll at least make it through the draw to get to the semi. Yeah, maybe. He's got a chance of course, and I'd certainly love to see it, but he still has Baghdatis in that quarter. Wawrinka is also there, and I think Ferrero picks up decent results on grass these days. It'll be interesting to see what today does to Djokovic's ranking, since he was defending semi final points from last year. He'll not drop down from third, of course, but it might ensure he doesn't get to no.1 this year.
utopastac
One thing that's struck me with watching most of the matches is the relatively lack of physique and fitness in the British players, especially the women. What's the excuse, really? Lazy?

I love Safin as much as anyone, but wouldn't put a penny on him gettin to the semi. What do you expect him to do tonight? Get rest or party with his friend Rosset like there's no tomorrow? Ivanovic has had a whole tournaments worth of luck in one match, but Dechy's taken it really well. Massively high quality...
Miner Willy
I love Safin as much as anyone, but wouldn't put a penny on him gettin to the semi. That's kind of what I was thinking. I had a feeling he would turn it on today (although I never thought he'd win), but I can just as easily see him losing a match we now expect him to win in the next round. One of my most disappointing matches at Wimbledon was about three years ago when I had tickets for him to play Lopez (I think). I'd been getting really up for it, but he was just awful, going out without a fight, and barely even an explosion of any sort. I quite like the idea of Safin celebrating by getting twatted round Wimbledon village tonight. Reminds me of a night out in Putney during Wimbledon 97 or 98, when I vaguely recall being sick in the toilets in the presence of renowned party guys Rafter & Philippousis. Miner Willy
Oh, and I just thought I'd take this opportunity to gloat that I've got centre court tickets for tomorrow. I'm desperately hoping to see Nadal and Murray. What a day that would be, although it might be tempered somewhat my my missus salivating over Nadal's biceps. I keep trying to educate her that Federer is the one true God, but she's not listening.
Miner Willy
Superb performance yesterday from Murray. I've never seen him in the flesh before, so was amazed at the weight of shot on his backhand: it's an awesome weapon. His serve was excellent too, and his return has always been class. He pretty much broke at will in the second set. I actually put some money on him to reach the final after his first round match, and this definitely encourages me it might not be wasted: I'd pick him as a slight favourite to beat Gasquet, and then he's got as good a chance of troubling Nadal as anyone in the bottom half. His backhand will certainly be a big asset should they meet. Also worth mentioning the performance of Tipsarevic last night. I've seen him play well before (at the Australian Vs Federer, and the first set Vs Djokovic at Queens), but here he kept up an incredible level for four sets. Despite having a weaker serve (albeit far from weak), he was actually winning most of his service games more comfortably than Roddick a lot of the time. His backhand down the line was awesome all match.

Herbalizer
I'd love Nadal to win it. Anyone watching the Murray interview? Jesus he is a boring monotone bastard.
pinholestar
Federer aside, Gasquet is my favourite player (sublime backhand, & tremendous natural talent) so hopefully he'll beat Murray on Monday, although he'll have to play better than he did today. Murray's playing well, no doubt about it, but the sooner he goes out the sooner the coverage won't be swamped with his unpleasant visage & unattractive playing style. The end of the Kiefer Nadal match was good fun, yeah. Nadal is looking awesome though. He's improved his serve since last year & also his volleying is better, I think. Still has a slight tendency to be indecisive near the net though. Please let us have another 5-set classic final with Federer. It's the match everyone wants & would be epic just for its happening. garuneku
I'd like to see Federer pack his bags (and cardigan) and let someone else have a go. There was an article in the Guardian saying that his matches are boring to watch, and apart from the finals, I agree. Because he is so much better than the journeymen in the first week, they should just give him a bye to round 4 anyway The perfect final for me would be Murray/Safin I can dream... Rossco
I really don't like Federer (or his stupid fuckin cardigans). Being Scottish I feel obliged to support Murray even if he is a little boring and lacks character when interviewed etc but I like watching him play. But I also love Nadal and would love to see Nadal win it this year to get one over on Fed. And I heard if Nadal wins and Federer doesn't make the Semi's or something, he'll go #1! sir stiff_one
I think Federer is awesome, but I also think the same about Nadal. Murray is pretty ugly isn't he?
Miner Willy
I heard if Nadal wins and Federer doesn't make the Semi's or something, he'll go #1! Well, yeah, but Federer's not really going to get beaten by anyone other than Nadal. It's his ability Vs the lower players which still sets him apart from Nadal & Djokovic, even if they have closed the gap to almost nothing when playing against him themselves. Still, Nadal could well get to no.1 before the year's out even if he doesn't win Wimbledon: he hasn't got a lot of points to defend after this tournament, and it's surely only a matter of time before he finds his game on hard courts, provided his body holds up. Speaking of which, there was an interesting article in the Observer yesterday, talking about the physical demands of hard courts on various joints, especially knees. There was a quote from Gary Lewin (England pysio, formerly of Arsenal) where he said tennis these days is about the most physically punishing sport there is, with all the jarring and turning etc. Anyway... great line-up today. Slightly surprised to see Ancic struggling against Verdasco, but I've only got the scores to go by since I can't watch it today.

Miner Willy
What sort of time can we expect Murray on court today? 6 maybe? I'd say it's unlikely to be before 5; the Fed-Hewitt match is fairly close so far, and the Kuznetsova-Radwanska one could go on a while.

probeater
Whats up with the shorts this year? I only watch womans tennis and its been quite a disappointment so far.
