Oh man every post match interview with Rafa on court makes me think he is retiring, he keeps talking about his career in the past, I wonder if he'll bow out if he loses to Djokovic and it's like an inside secret?

Rafa doesn’t seem right to me, he’s missed a lot of routine shots and would have broken twice had he made some of these shots. I’m still convinced he’s retiring when he loses.

Yeah the retiring thing is my own personal paranoia and is most likely complete bullshit. Really odd performance though, even if he managed to get through this match he won’t beat djokovic playing this poorly.

Yeah that was a great match, Felix is the real deal and Rafa had to spend a lot of energy to win. I can't see him trashing Djokovic unfortunately especially if they put it on at night, I'd love to see it though of course haha!

Night matches at RG is rubbish and was never required. Also why does it have to be a mens match? How pissed would you be if you'd got tickets for the 1/4's only to discover that Rafa v Noel is a different session. Why can't it be one of the womans matches scheduled for tomorrow instead? Again I wouldn't be surprised if this is Rafa's last match at RG if he loses, it's no longer the same tournament.

Medvedev can't hit through Cilic because of these cold night time conditions, apparently Amazon bought the exclusive rights to these night matches in France for 8m Euros, the French Federation should be ashamed of themselves. Ruining the best Grand Slam :(

Cilic played a blinder though, huge serving and groundstrokes. I'd like Casper Ruud to come through this half to the final personally, he's really impressed me this year but Rune would be amazing too.

I didn't see that match, but I would have thought slow conditions would favour Medvedev more than Cilic. Cilic is the more naturally aggressive of the two, though he's also the more comfortable moving on clay. 

 

A real shame that Sinner got injured, as he was probably looking the standout in that half. Hope I'm wrong, but I think it's now looking very much like whoever comes through the top half could have a real anticlimax of a final.

Yeah that's been a risk since the draw was announced it's so topsided. Cilic didn't give Medvedev a chance to get into the match at all, he blew him off the court. Medvedev tried upping the power on his shots but then he was missing but only just, I think the slower condtions allowed Cilic to run around his backhand and unleash a lot and find angles, it was a dominant display, be interesting to see how he does in the quarter.

While he didn't pull it off in the end, I thought that Alcaraz performed admirably. He easily could have gone on to win it if he'd taken the tiebreak. Zverev was really good though and there was no shame in losing to him today.

 

Nadal off to a flyer in the big evening match. Could be a long one!

Oh Rafa, how did I ever doubt you?

 

Phenomenal performance - from both of them, to be fair. Djokovic stepped up in the second set, and the start of the fourth too, but I don't think he could ever maintain that level because he was having to hit so aggressively to challenge Rafa.

Yeah what a match and what a performance from Rafa, the man continues to amaze and delight. I wonder how much he has left, if he can get through Zverev he could be fighting for a fourteenth crown, insane! I hope he can recover from the late finish.

Still in shock at what happened to Zverev, it was a very tight and physical match, 3 hours and they hadn't even finished the 2nd set and then he rolls his ankle, looked very bad and he was screaming in pain, hopefully it isn't serious and he can recover quickly. Rafa into his 14th Roland Garros final and a chance at a 14th crown, wow.

Yeah, really horrible end. Not a Zverev fan, but I thought he was the better player for most of both sets and still had a decent chance to win.

 

Assuming Nadal wasn't struggling physically, it's worked out almost perfectly for him, rather ironically.

While I'm certainly no medical expert, I am a veteran of many ankle injuries and that honestly didn't look that bad. Like, not finishing the match bad, sure, but not, say, surgery and months out bad. It didn't look like he put that much weight on the twist really.

 

Still, a shitty outcome in a match that was shaping up nicely (if a bit weirdly, with all the breaks). Credit to Zverev for the way he came out fighting in the second set, when many a head would have dropped after the way he lost the first, and given who and where he was up against.

It looked strikingly similar to the one Alcaraz suffered earlier in the clay swing (maybe against Djokovic?), but clearly more serious, given the immediate reaction.

 

No matter what you may think of Zverev, it's such a shame from a fan's perspective, as it was a great contest today, and you kind if think this one going long was the only chance of Nadal facing a serious challenge on Sunday. 14 slams will be its own story, but it would be fitting if he had to battle through in classic Rafa fashion.

Well he still has battled, he was on the ridiculously lopsided side of the draw, he's gone through FAA, Novak and now a 3 hour match with Zverev. Ruud is looking very good, I'll be interested to see how he matches up to Rafa as he has based a lot of his game on Rafa evidently.
