Wall-E - New from Pixar

I saw this last night and thought it was brilliant, certianly one of the best Pixar movies. Although Mrs H wasn't all that impressed by it, as her detailed review was that it was "alright".

I agree that it does loose a bit once they get to the ship, but that opening section on earth is without doubt the best thing Pixar have ever done in my opinion. So many great little touches throughout the movie, can't wait for the DVD now.

Absolutely. The more that time passes, the more I look back on this and wish it was more (or all) about that quiet isolation and the off-kilter love story that develops in the rubble of humanity. Whatever the rest of the film is like (which is still very good, the substandard human parts redeemed by the ongoing robot excellence), it's still my favourite Pixar just for the opening half hour. I agree that's the best piece of film-making they've ever done.

I'd love them to cast aside the box office focus stuff for just one film and go balls-out for a truly resonant, adult-oriented, not necessarily 'family-friendly' animated feature (which would probably appeal all the more to most families anyway). You can see from WALL-E where they've compromised that vision, and it makes the joins between the two approaches all the more apparent. It's still my favourite of theirs, but there's something more in them just simmering and aching under the surface.

Tantalising.

I enjoyed the first hour, especially the part when Eve hadn't arrived yet. Although as soon as Wall-E arrived on the space station it went downhill for me.

I'd rate it on a par with Finding Nemo, but not as good as the toy story films.

In my opinion Pixar will never top they Toy Story films.

Just gald they never did them to death with more sequals

There is a 3rd one on the way...

The original is still the best. Can't really put down why but i think it's just how light and 'real' it all is.

Finally saw this today and it blew me away with its moutain of awesome. I loved it, all of it, even the ship bit. In fact I think all the mad robots escaping was my favourite bit. Just so great. So great. It's weird - I really disliked the designs of Wall E and Eve in stills, thought they were very tacky and over-sentimental looking, but moving, with the voices, they just worked so well. I adored Eve's fiestiness. And that cockroach pacing up and down at the end. And the cleaning robot. And the beautiful space dance. And the fat human skeleton! And the 2001 references. And the clever visualisation of various quotes. The whole thing just felt very biblical in its universality and grandeur. I can't wait to see it again.

I disagree, I think the second one is much richer - both thematically and from an animation point of view.

It's their absolute masterpiece, with The Incredibles being my second fave.

I've yet to see Rataouille though.

I think the first is best, but the second is remarkable sequal.

The second is definitely better than the first. And the second had that quite loveable cowgirl in it.

Fixed. :(

Now that i've watched Wall-E again on DVD i'll go ahaid and say this: Both halves are made of complete awesome. It's just too bad that both halves feel as if they're from 2 completely different movies. So i'd rate this 5 out of 5 but with a little note on the side that it could have just as well have been 6 out of 5.

Now can somebody please explain to me the quite stupid accusation that Pixar keeps making the same movie? I've seen the haters they're little "all-round" plot synopsis of they're movies and you can really only apply them too the 2 Toy Story movies.

Apparantly some people just can't stand it when something for kids becomes the most succesful studio ever(and i include Disney in that statement!).

I just watched it on Blu-Ray. If anything it was even better second time around, and I loved both acts from the start. My friends left when the credits started, but I sneakily switched it back on to watch those too. :(

I think I actually prefer it to Ratatouille, making it one of my favourite films of all time.
