I loved the original Lamp shorts too. Remember watching them on the old Rolf Harris show, I think Knick Knack was on ot once, that or Tin Toy.

I've got the collection of them here, and the only one that doesn't get watched much is the cars one. It's just not that good a story. One Man Band gets a viewing quite often, so does Mike's New Car, that makes me laugh everytime.

I managed to get Ratatouillle and the shorts on BR from Asda for £17.99. Was well happy at that price.

My fave shorts are For the Birds and Presto. But Knick-Knack is great and I agree the theme is awesome, shame the bloody Bupa advert is using it.

Pixar + sci-fi = WIN!

A great movie, much better than Ratatouille. And such a tear-jerker too. Within 5 minutes everybody was in love with Wall-E and in constant fear of something horrible happening to him! I haven't had a movie make me choke-up this much since Schindler's List, bizarrely. The security camera footage showing how Wall-E cared for Eva was the bit that had me sucking back the tears the most.

The first third of the movie is textbook cinema, telling a story without words and I loved seeing what had happened to mankind in the second half. And I was very impressed by the anti-consumerist message of the movie considering the Disney connection. There were a couple of scenes that felt like they were just in there to sell videogames, and perhaps it was a little too grown-up for kids, but that's probably just my adult brain underestimating children.

A great film. 4/5.

What a lovely film.

It's nice to see a film where you cared for its characters, a movie with both a heart and a sense of wonder. And a message. Astounding animation as well. Kung Fu Panda was fun, but ultimately forgettable. This is one for the ages.

It's not perfect though, and I agree about the second half being less strong than the first. For a few moments I thought they were going for a more tragic ending, but like The Iron Giant before it, they didn't go there. Which spared me the flood of tears that I cried when watching The Snowman as a child. Sniff.

Great end credits as well and Presto (how cute was that rabbit?) is probably my fave Pixar short that is not called One Man Band.

Bring it on Up. <_<

I got the Art of Wall-E through the post today and along with the lovely pictures it also had some interesting insights into the development of the project.

Originally the people on the Axiom were to look like translucent blobs (think of Slimer but not being able to fly and go through walls etc) and the twist at the end is that this is what humanity has eventually turned into. The use of real life humans in the film makes more sense when you think of this type of design whereas it doesn't work quite as well with the compromised vision of the humans that we ended up with.

Another interesting piece of information is that EVE was modeled on the dove from Noah's Ark. It is so obvious to me now regarding the similarities (more on a thematic level than design) but I never picked that up whilst watching the film.

I saw this film tonight with my parents, and we all loved it. My mum had no idea what to expect, and went in completely blind; it was the first time she'd been to the cinema since 2004 (for another Pixar film, The Incredibles). It was amazing to see and the end was tear-jerking. I actually thought

Wall-E was going to be 'dead' after being rebooted, instead of getting his consciousness back

.

There were 4 other animated feature trailers before the film and they really highlighted how far ahead Pixar are in comparison to every other Western animation studio.

Oh God yes. There were 5 or 6 animation trailers before the film tonight and they were all bilge.

i'd read she was modeled on the new iMacs. all white with the black bits around her eyes. half dove/half iMac then!

The last animated film my mum saw at the cinema was The Lion king. She cried so much she didn't want to see anymore. She absolutely loved Finding Nemo when I got the dvd, especially the seagulls.

She's very slowly got into a few animated films recently. Shrek was a complete nightmare to watch with her my stepdad left the room 'whats he doing? why is he green? Eww is that mud? Is this reall or computer?' ALL THE WAY THROUGH! One of the kids at the end of this year brought in Ice Age which she seems to like (Asking me if I have the sequal) and has started to show some of the kids on last dayss some anime. I lent her Princess Mononoke before christmas for her older classes and they loved it. The cut version was shown in the holidays so they want to see more. I have Laputa lined up for them.

I wanna see Wall E agaaaaaaain

I'm talking about her function to the story more than her look (although her arms do look like bird wings at times, she is white and when she has the plant a little green leaf symbol appears on her chest - like the olive branch that the dove brings back to the Ark).

This is what the book said.

At a meeting somebody said that EVE should be like the dove in the Noah's Ark story. We thought, "That'll work." We re-jiggered the story so her job is to bring that plant back to the ship and signal that it's safe to go back to Earth.

Other things I discovered from the book is that the original title to the film was Trash Planet and that the trash towers Wall-E makes were constructed in layers (paper, aluminium etc) so they would decompose in the right way.

Talking of Ice Age, I saw the trailer for the 3rd film. It involved Scrat the squirrel, and it was so funny.

I fear you're right. My (9yo) brother saw it on the weekend, and thought it was too long and boring

Personally, I loved it (I saw it the weekend before last, in the Vue cinema Cardiff, and me and my friend were literally the only people there. Good for us, but a bit odd). I was teary-eyed for the latter portion of the film, and

when broken WALL-E tells Eve to follow her 'directive'

I actually sobbed (once, before choking it all back like a real man).

A definite 6/5 for me.

Saw it tonight and really surprised how busy the cinema was (pretty much full). Really enjoyed it, great use of sound and love how it hits your emotions full on. Weaver was a nice touch along with the Mac boot up chime :D

Edit: Love the roach too

What about the one with the old boy who plays himself at chess? That's utter genius.

Geri's Game?

We watched all of the shorts years ago for a computer graphics module at Uni, and even the really old original ones like The Adventures of Andre and Wally B (1984) were good

I saw this the other day in a mostly empty cinema (VUE at the O2).

I thought it was good rather than brilliant. I thought WallE and Eve fell in love (or whatever it was) a bit too quickly.

Not a patch on Toy Story or The Incredibles IMHO.
