Actually, I take RRT4 back and I'm going with Phantasy Star Online. It was magic. It was all like 'Welcome to our world, come on in'. And I did. And it was good.

Oh man, the rumbling noise on the loading screen and the sparkly tingle of the moving star. Woah.

Shame PSU was a complete disaster. They should put the original PSO on the XBOX live arcade and let people play it for free.

Is it really that bad? It's one of the few 360 games that I've had to accept I'll probably never play (due to fucking regional restrictions), and I was a massive fan of the PSO game.

The theme music for Little Big Adventure and its sequel always bring back wonderful feelings...

The title screen music (not just the song "Snake Eater", but also the more atomospheric/ambient stuff in the start screen menu) in MGS3 is also great.

It's all right. You can have a lot of fun with it. PSO's simplicity and character does beat it hands down though. I'd played loads of great online games before I played PSU. PSO was the first. Went straight online as well, no single player first. I can still remember that first trip down to the forest with a team in tow. Amazing.

Back on topic - I just love that Skies of Arcadia menu music with the clouds slowly drifting by and it slowly turning from day to night. In fact I love the game full stop.

The string accompaniment to the main menu of Jenova Chen's Cloud is really quite moving. I'm not sure if it's explicity stated at any point, but the small images that make up the menu choices tell the story of a bed-ridden boy who dreams he can fly. Along with the uplifting, but quite wistful, refrain, this really gets to me.

Mercenaries had a fantastic piece of menu music by Michael Giaccino, but I can't really remember how it goes any more.

EDIT: Oh, and Symphony Of The Night as well. I think I might have a bit of a soft spot for choral / orchestral pieces in game menus.

Out of all the games mentioned here, F-Zero's the only one that made my nostalgic menu music hairs twitch furiously.

Dammit, i know there are ones I love... but I can't recall any of them offhand.

Oh yeah, Mega Man 2 on the NES was one of them. And Shining Force, of course - epic.

The start menu of Starfox 64/Lylat Wars... it's the loveliest spacey little tune, and weirdly sad sounding - it's what being abandoned to float on your own through space would sound like.

Downloaded it on Wii and have stayed on the menu for waaay too long.
