vimster - mines just popped through the post this morning.

are you trying to press my ;) buttons???!!!

Well if I did it was by pure accident.

Got my CD today, just listening to it now. First impression based on the first 3 tracks: not to shabby. Will report back later.

Sorry for the delay in feedback Wiper, I was concentrating on perfecting my own disc ;)

01 - Hello - Gay Against You (the only track to actually have its given name)

Short and subtly linked into...

02 - Cold Comfort - Cold Storage (from Wipeout)

Can't say I recognise this, though I didn't play the original Wipeout much. It had a nice thump and is pretty typical Cold Storage sounding all the same though.

03 - Sleeper in Metropolis - Anne Clark

Some 80s sounding electro beats and a woman rambling on about something. Can't say I'm keen really, the vocals were a bit rubbish and the backing was too repetitive to divert my attention.

04 - The Past Is A Grotesque Animal - Of Montreal

A long track this one, but it doesn't take too long to get going. The vocals are a bit whiney and the backing is pretty dull too, even the synth solo at the end doesn't quite save it. Probably one of those tracks that if you're into it, it's really hypnotic and great. But I'm not, sorry!

05 - Gamera - Tortoise

Another 11+ minutes here. This one is a bit more relaxed and shoe-gazy (if that's even a word). I like the loose drums and although the track isn't bad, it's not really doing much for me.

06 - By Your Side - CocoRosie

Sounds like Sia singing. Not keen on this one.

07 - Assisse - Camille

This is a couple of minutes of fairly jolly foreign (French?) lounge pop. Again, not too keen!

08 - Eight Steps - Electrelane

I think that's an accordian. It's a fast paced track (running) which slows down in the middle and drops to just piano before building (and speeding) up again. One of the better tracks on the mix. I can imagine people Russian dancing to it which makes it better!

09 - Unknown - Unknown (possibly Tetsuya Mizuguchi - this is the credits music from Rez)

Yeah, nice. Recognised this one from one of my favourite games.

I can't really argue with the 'This Is Living' concept of the disc, each track seemed to fit the theme of the title you gave them all. The transitions between tracks were also well thought out. A couple of times I had to check that a track had changed. Unfortunately, the music didn't really move me. Nothing I particularly hated though, which is good. But also nothing that stood out and made me want more. Thanks for sending though.

Yeah, feedback on these things is often tough to get across without seeming like a grumpy sod - I'm incredibly fussy about music in various ways I have no idea about myself. I was going to predict the first track was The Coral - the vocalists sound simliar - but hey, massive fail here then :(

It's a nice variety of stuff for sure but just mostly stuff I don't get on with. Sorry! Going to give it another try at some point (most likely once my new PC arrives, don't have a CD player) though.

[edit] isn't this the second CD you've sent me so far? Just curious.

It is the 2nd CD, I seem to think my first one to you was far more hiphop heavy. If you're going to listen to it again, I'd highly recommend paying special attention to the Betty Davis track - her vocal performance is incredible, just really really raw and dirty. Can't get enough of that track. Peg too, I'm not usually one for muso cleaness but it's just superior pop throughout (the chorus ^_^) - life affirming stuff. There's a 'making of' the song up on Youtube, where they separate all the different instruments - the bass line is bonkers.

In other news, I haven't received a CD yet!

Thanks for that link Ben. Peg's one that I keep forgetting to put on my own comps. I don't think I'm overstating things when I say that Steely Dan are simply the best group of all time!

It's worth watching a few of the other Aja Classic Album videos up on Youtube, Fagen displays some mad lyrical skillz at the start of the Black Cow video.

Tracklist for larrydavidsanger:

01. Unorganized Crime - Alessandra

02. Faze Action - Stratus Energy (Special Disco Mix)

03. Chromeo - Call Me Up

04. Boom Bip - The Pinks

05. Maurice "Fat Jon" Galactica - Pretty Pussy Kitty Kat

06. A.M. (aka Andrew Moore) - Dr. Cohen Gets Even

07. DJ Espionage - Interrupted Ascension

08. Ultramagnetic MC's - Break North

09. Groove Armada - Hands Up

10. Organized Konfusion - The Rough Side of Town

11. Talib Kweli - Electrify

12. J Dilla - Geek Down

13. Blockhead - Cherry Picker

14. Jazzanova - Behold These Days (Berlin '74)

4- It sounds a bit like The Knife to me, but I've not really heard much of their stuff. Actually the more it goes on, the less I'm thinking that. I like the way the cowbell has continued far into this track, the background bass is reminding me of NES music a bit. The little change around 1:50 has come at just the moment when I was beginning to lose interest and won me over again. Very nice overall, and the cow bell is back nearer the end

The cowbell signifies the start of this track!

5- More seamless mixing, I hadn't realised the track had changed til just before the flutey sound started. This one has been a bit dull so far, not too much happening in it. Oh there's some quick rapping going on now, it's suddenly become a lot more interesting. I like the little intermittent beeps in the background punctuating the rapping. Definitely a lot better now. It's changed again, the earlier bit is back and it's seeming a bit better now. Strange track, I'd be interested to know who this is, I don't think this works as well as it could but I like the idea behind it.

I'm not massively keen on this one either but I like the mix of styles that it uses.

6- Nicely cut up sample of a hypnosis tape with nice guitar behind it. Fourtet maybe? This is very nice, very mellow and right up my street. Perhaps my favourite so far. It might be Lemon Jelly actually. Whoever it is, I like it a lot. Pretty tinkly bits and trumpets at 2:30 smile.gif Probably my favourite so far

See my previous post for my info about this guy. You can download a couple more tracks here and there are links to buy the album too. Quite tempted by this myself. You're right that it's very reminiscent of Lemon Jelly a bit like the Staunton lick.

14- Oh wow, what a fantastic transistion, I never expected to hear this sort of thing after the last track but it fits just perfectly. This is firmly in Air territory with the lovely organ. Another nice mellow one, the perfect way to finish off.

I'm on the lookout for more Jazzanova stuff just now. Weirdly I thought this was one of the weaker transitions of the mix!

If you want any of the tracks in an umixed form give me a shout. I wasn't sure about the transition half way through into hip hop but I found some good stuff at the last minute so stuck it in.

Noob I got your CD and i'll post up some feedback as soon as I can. Was a bit worried when I pulled the bit of paper out first! ^_^

I love Black Cow. It also benefits from the distinction of being one of the few tunes that my name appears on.

I was worried you might not like most of the tracks (actually, I was certain you'd dislike the Anne Clark track - it is a particularly repetitive track with uninspired lyrics - but it fit the mood and style I needed) but decided to stick with what seemed to fit together and fit the themes I stuck in. Disappointed you didn't like the The Past Is A Grotesque Animal, which is an amazing track. But there we go :)

(Just be thankful I didn't go with my original mix CD. I won't spoil it for when I do actually use it, but it would have made your brain cry)

The first CD had Oneida, The Klaxons and Nelly Furtado on

I'm sure I've heard a lot of stuff about Peg before, I'll definitely give that one another go at some point.

Mine turned up in the post today. Probably won't have chance to give it a listen before work on Monday, but the 3 3 written around the 0 in the centre makes me hope for some squelchy acid goodness. I'm a little scared by the front cover though - what's in his hand off camera?

I'll need advise on how to zip the files together. I've ripped the files from CD to WMA files, but if you can walk us through what to do next before I submit to somewhere like Zshare... Ta.

Just put all the files in a folder, along with a playlist (but don't worry about that), then just right-click on the folder and select 'Add To 'Folder Name'.rar' - if you have WinRAR of course. Then obviously goto zShare etc..
