right - feedback for imp for the first disc...

1. Panda Bear - Untitled

what a nice and strangely hypnotic handclap song, whihch serves as a lovely intro. I like this track, I think it goes on a bit too long though.

2. The Oh Sees - The Guilded Cunt

i like the music on this, but the voice of the guy makes me want to choke him... aww, I think this track is really nice, like a 60s girl group being put through four decades of reverb...

3. Fuck Buttons - Sweet Love For Planet Earth

now THIS is just lovely, so nice and relaxing. i love the sort of twinkle nise throughout. Mmm, this is a strange one, isn't it... It shouldn't work in theory being droning atonal guitar and twinkly bits on top for seven odd minutes, but it does, and how it does!

4. Thieves Like Us - Drugs In My Body

again, another one on repeat! sounds very cassius, or french to me...Woo! Party Track! French you say? It's been released as a single by French Label Kitsune, but the artists are staunchly american ;)

5. Echo and the Bunnymen - White Devil

strange intro but whn the song finally kicks in proper, its ace!!! very bowie like vocals. One of my favourite 80s bands, I'm going to be writing my dissertation of John Webster next term... I love the xylophone on this track

6. Dinosaur Jr - Sludgefeast

aaaaargh!!! noise!!! SKIP. This was a last minute addition... It's quite nice once the intro finishes, and while I like Dino Jr, I hate guitar solos. So conflicted!

7. Frog Eyes - Caravan Breakers, They Prey on the Weak and the Old

this sounds like the music a clown would make if he escaped from a circus. ace!!! I really like this band, they're so brilliantly theatrical and uneasy, they really keep you on edge. Once deciphered, really interesting lyrics too

8. Jeff Magnum - Naomi

nice acoustic track and i really like the melody to this. This is from a solo show consisting of almost all neutral milk hotel songs. I really love Magnum's vocal melodies and how well they come across on these sparse recordings, but the imaginative instrumentation on 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea' is really worth listening to. Not that this song is on that album, but still, I'm just recommending the album!

9. Cyann & Ben - A Moment Nowhere

i really like this, especially the build up. Yeah, the build up is amazing :D

10. Antibalas - Beaten Metal

what an odd little song...!!! A track to shake your booty to to end

as for the other bonus cds, there is definitely some stuff there i really like too.

overall, a great cd and i must admit to not having a clue to who any of them are!!!

tracklist please!!!

:D

Thanks for the feedback noob! Glad you liked it! 8)

6. Love Is All - Felt Tip

7. Isolee - Schrapnell

Like you mentioned before, it doesn't always flow too well and some of the tracks would work better elsewhere in the mix but an enjoyable CD none the less with a couple of exceptional tracks. Cheers, thanks for the CD.

Yeah realised I messed up on the 2nd listen through, but I had already posted it by then. Basically split the CD into genres - Warp/Electronica -> Electronica/Hip Hop -> 80's EuroDance. Oh Well. Agree with what you state as the standout tracks. I love that Boom Bip track but have never got round to buying Seed to Sun, have Blue Eyed In A Red Room which is alright, and have just ordered Corymb - presume you're referring to Sacchrilege? Rocketmann is another Felix Da Housecat alias and was released during his contractual disagreement with FFRR.

I was originally going to ommit the Fujiya & Miyagi track as I thought the track might be too obvious but they are so good that they stand up to repeated listening - keep meaning to take an interest in their remix album. MC1 is from Elaste - Slow Motion Disco and is a cracking Italo_disco compilation. Gui Boratto's Chromophobia I imagine will be top of my favourite album's end of year poll - it gets constant playback from me and every track on the album is as good as this one here. Mr Flagio was originally brought to my attention from I-F's Mixed In The Hague and always gets me smiling.

Larrydavidsanger - received your CD and listened to about half of it so far. Sounding good - proper feedback for tomorrow.

Received a nicely presented CD, with a cover and colourful sunflower printed CD.

01 Looks Like A Star - Suicide Sports Club Opening track fades in, and it's ok. Not really anything I would rush out to buy, but it's pleasent enough. With the male vocalist singing, "bah-ba", over and over. Whilst an electronic tune plays, with added vodacoder samples.

02 Pressure Drop - Toots & The Maytals Reggae! Very Bob Marley, but not sure if it's him or not. Anyway this is much better, and makes me want to do a little jig. Excellent.

03 Tarantula - Pendulum More reggae, with a difference. It's really HARDCORE! Well the intro is all reggae, then it bursts into some guy rapping over a hardcore track. I don't really like the style of the guy's rapping, and would prefer this track to be instrumental. Would go down well in Brixton.

04 I swallowed hard, like I understood - 65 Days of Static NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! A rock instrumental, and I'm going to have to skip this track. Plus it felt a bit out of place, on this mix. Never mind, onto the next...

05 Lesson 6: The Lecture - Jurassic 5 "Ok, let's begin", and we get a typical 50's male talking over trip-hop/sci-fi sounds. Not sure who it is, but this track changes style over it's 5m 35s. It's like a mini-mix, and the guy talks about different lessons. Nice.

06 Bump - Spank Rock More hip-hop, and not sure if this is old-skool or not. Still it's a darker than the previous track, and the rapping is much better. Nice beats, especially when it goes instrumental. Definitely one to play nice and loud.

His hoe gets a little rap at the end. Cool track.

07 Provider - N.E.R.D (Zero 7 remix) Another excellent song, with a lovely bass playing thoughout. Making for a nice song to chill to, as a guy sings over the top. Don't know who it is, but this track gets better towards the end, when it all goes Air-like.

08 On A Clear Day You Can See Forever - The Peddlers A Frank Sinatra type singer, who sings over a very cool backing track. Very nice.

09 More Dance Music - Kid Koala A hip-hop type instrumental, with a slighty comedy/party style to it. It's alright, not something I would rush to listen to again.

10 Falling - Nitin Sawney featuring Aqualung Bit depressing this song, in a radiohead type manner but this has a folky-type flute playing in the background. It's ok, but doesn't really do anything for me.

11 Come Together - Primal Scream Is this Primal Scream, it sure sounds like their front man singing? I like some of their songs, just not this one. It follows on nicely from the last song, and it ends the mix well.

So not a bad mix at all, cheers!

On A Clear Day You Can See Forever - The Peddlers

Is there any chance that MechE or Mr Do could stick this track up? The Sinatra version is one of my favourites, and I'd love to hear it.

Feedback for 'Last Roll of The Dice' :

1. Wasn't sure at first if this was some Beatles pisstake, but my limited knowledge of scousers led me to believe this might be Half Man Half Biscuit which sifting through Amazon seems to be correct. I only really know this band through my nextdoor neighbour constantly playing Dickie Davies Eyes when I was a kid. Not my thing but witty and original enough to have it's own merit.

2. Recognise this, not sure where from though. Is it some remix of Nina Simone playing piano? Very quirky and like it a lot.

3. Really like this one, nice driving rhythm. Interesting percussion usage. Can't make out the lyrics. Good choice.

4. Sounds like something off Trainspotting, but I'm sure it's not. Enjoyable. Not sure if the 'story' has any actual point.

5. Another 'story' americana style. Again enjoyable to listen to.

6. Don't dislike this but perhaps a bit too drony. Possibly a nice song trying to find it's way out.

7. 60's soulful schwing. Quality. Think I might have heard this on a Soulsavers or RJD2 mix or is at least familiar.

8. Tribe Called Quest - Award Tour. Cool.

9. Biz Markie - Just A Friend. More Cool.

10. Grand Puba - 2000. Mo' Cool.

11. Sorry I've gone blank on this one, recognise the rapper and I'm sure it's something obvious.

12. Funky diva. Nice tune - imagine you wouldn't want to disturb her making love.

13. Choo Choo! All aboard the funky train. I'd be huffing and puffing along to this too.

14. Piano + Science = Smart and Snappy.

15. Some Tom Waits type wailing. It's alright but does sound a bit like a drag artist doing blues.

Nice pleasant mix, nothing offensive and all highly listenable. Fav's are probably 3 & 13, but don't think it's introduced me to anything further. Thanks for the cover art - not sure if the tracks are themed.

Feedback for 'Last Roll of The Dice' :

1. Half Man, Half Biscuit - God Gave Us Life Wasn't sure at first if this was some Beatles pisstake, but my limited knowledge of scousers led me to believe this might be Half Man Half Biscuit which sifting through Amazon seems to be correct. I only really know this band through my nextdoor neighbour constantly playing Dickie Davies Eyes when I was a kid. Not my thing but witty and original enough to have it's own merit.

This was the last track added, because the last one was Tom Waits crooning about death, so I put one on about life too. I never really got HMHB until this month when I bought Back In The DHSS on a whim and suddenly everything clicked.

2. The Bad Plus - Flim Recognise this, not sure where from though. Is it some remix of Nina Simone playing piano? Very quirky and like it a lot.

Aphex Twin cover done by a jazz band that also cover stuff like Pixies, Sabbath, Blondie etc. Very pretty track, not too dissimilar to the original but the lack of electronics makes it just beautiful

3. Can - Moonshake Really like this one, nice driving rhythm. Interesting percussion usage. Can't make out the lyrics. Good choice.

Krautrock from the 70s that sounds as contemporary as anything put out today. I don't know if you're meant to understand the lyrics but I sing along anyway, always gets my toes tapping

4. Arab Strap - The First Big Weekend Sounds like something off Trainspotting, but I'm sure it's not. Enjoyable. Not sure if the 'story' has any actual point.

Thisis about the only Arab Strap song I know. I seem to enjoy tracks with a wee story instead of singing if they're done right, this sort of struggles but just manages to keep on the right side of being a big mess

5. Jeffrey Lewis - Seattle Another 'story' americana style. Again enjoyable to listen to.

I was worried about this one, one of my favourite artists but he seems to have a voice that puts a hell of a lot of people off, from his first album which was pretty much all folky tracks, although I really enjoy it, his next two albums are probably more interesting and varied

6. Beta Band - It's Over Don't dislike this but perhaps a bit too drony. Possibly a nice song trying to find it's way out.

Love the bouncing bass in this. You're right, the Beta Band never went for the simple, obvious approach to a song, that's why I like them so much and I definitely like the first section of this better than the second

7. The Exciters - Blowing Up My Mind 60's soulful schwing. Quality. Think I might have heard this on a Soulsavers or RJD2 mix or is at least familiar.

I like to search for 'various artists' on Soulseek and see what comes up, this one popped up on "Northern Soul Floorshakers," I'd never heard it before but it's got a great groove and catchy vocals

8. Tribe Called Quest - Award Tour. Cool.

My favourite Hip Hop group, easily. Everything sounds just right

9. Biz Markie - Just A Friend. More Cool.

So terribly sung that it's brilliant with the most basic of drum beats. Nothing flashy but it doesn't need to be, insanely catchy

10. Grand Puba - 2000. Mo' Cool.

Hadn't ever heard of this guy til last Friday when Mark Lamarr played him on his "God's Jukebox" show on radio 2. Bought his album the next day, really enjoying it

11. ODB - Shimmy Shimmy Ya Sorry I've gone blank on this one, recognise the rapper and I'm sure it's something obvious.

Love the one note piano playing on this, another one that drives itself into my brain for days everytime I hear it

12. Bobby Patterson - Quiet! Do Not Disturb! Funky diva. Nice tune - imagine you wouldn't want to disturb her making love.

Another one nabbed from Mark Lamarr's show that I'd never heard of before. Checked out some more of his stuff and it's all just as catchy

13. Allen Toussaint - Last Train Choo Choo! All aboard the funky train. I'd be huffing and puffing along to this too.

I think he's mostly a producer and a songwriter for other people, you wonder why when he can do stuff like this himself. The sound of New Orleans is all over this one

14. Mose Allison - Your Molecular Structure Piano + Science = Smart and Snappy.

I could listen to this voice all day, love the way he draws out words

15. Tom Waits - Dirt In The Ground Some Tom Waits type wailing. It's alright but does sound a bit like a drag artist doing blues.

I was in half a mind not to include this but I thought it signalled the end of a cd pretty well

Nice pleasant mix, nothing offensive and all highly listenable. Fav's are probably 3 & 13, but don't think it's introduced me to anything further. Thanks for the cover art - not sure if the tracks are themed.

Sorry it was so late! Glad you enjoyed it though

Feedback for mine - not sure who sent it!

1. Is that Cassette Boy? Sounds like a sample-mash up.

2. Nice bit of Sam Cook/Soul Stirrers - Jesus Gave me Water. Not a huge gospel fan, but listening to it this morning with the sun out it makes sense.

3. Interlude - sounds like Jello Biafra?

4. Zapp/Cameo -esque 80's stuff. Not sure who this is, it's perhaps a little too polished for me, but I'm having a big renaissance of this kind of material - Aleem/Zapp etc. Is it Paula Abdul?

5. I don't know who this is - don't recognise the rapper at all - I guess from the production it's quite recent (within the last decade) guessing from the massive RZA influence. I'm afraid it doesn't really do anything for me at all - sounds like a v.lite Wu-Tang.

6. A sample of "Carmina Burana", with the coda being used throughout over a sampled breakbeat. Wasn't for me I'm afraid.

7. I liked this piece of jazz-funk. Quite Axelrod-like in its spacey arrangement.

8. George Harrison?

9. If it wasn't for the rather heavy, distorted rhythm I'd really like this - nice vocals and strings. Who is it?

10. Fuck. I know this - it's not Eno, aarrghh. Lovely Arpeggiated noises. Really like that.

11. Global Communication - off 76:14 - one of the best LPs of the 90's. Top stuff. (although heavily samples lots of stuff like Tangerine Dream - this track in particular)

12. I don't know this but I really like it - the rhythms are beautiful. Great track. Quite Broadcast-like, yet more electronic. Probably my favourite track on the CD.

13. Don't know this - synth work out, liked it.

14. This is definitely a Chain Reaction record - and I'm pulling my hair out trying to remember it. It's not Delay - is it Shinicibi Atobe? I've got it as well, just can't find it at the moment.

15. Thomas Brinkmann?

16. Some nice atmospheric ragga/dubstep. Liked this - good horns.

17. Shitmat? Mental amen-break stuff. Not a massive fan of this, but once in a while I really like it.

18. Gotta be a Jenkinson record? Ceephax Acid Crew or Squarepusher?

19. An electronic "version" of Land of Hope and Glory. It's not Tomita I guess? Sounds too recent.

Overall despite a slow start with a couple of tracks I didn't go for at all, I liked this. A broad selection of genres, held together with some nice cinematic-style interludes, and including some tracks I'd like to know, especially that Broadcast-esque one.

Top work!

Is it Paula Abdul?

No, but that's got to be what my next mix club CD is called. Glad this worked out - I posted the track list at the end of last month, but I'm not above quoting myself. Tragically our numbering systems don't match up, but I'm sure this is the playlist I burned. I expect you've missed out a couple of the in-between throwaways. But hopefully it'll help identify what you liked... I think your favourite was the first Kid 606 - as you can tell from the second of his tracks, it's not fully representative but he does turn out the occasional melodic track or album. I think the track you thought was Chain Reaction is the Plastikman mix of PWOG, which is an awesome slice of minimalism that I adore.

I got a bit obsessed with the Dixiaires track after hearing it at the start of the Masters of Horror episode 'Family'. It was a bastard to track down as the credits offered no help, I couldn't fully remember the lyrics as I saw it while I was away from the web for a few days and the title is ungrammatical. Still, I got there in the end by using all my powers and had to download the damned thing from the iTunes store, in violation of my principles. It was EPIC.

The Carmina Burana is from Simonetti's mental album of classical covers. It certainly isn't for everyone...

Anyhow:

As it's almost the end of the month, here's the tracklisting for my CD this month (for Bleep):

1 - An Old Hook - Cassetteboy

2 - Jesus Give Me Water - The Dixiaires

3 - Perverted Science - Link (presumably, it's from the Theory of Evolution compilation)

4 - Ooh Baby - West Street Mob

5 - Mad (Bleeker Street Hip Hop Formula) - Kurtis Mantronik

6 - Carmina Burana - Claudio Simonetti

7 - Um 'Oh' E Um 'Ah' - Tom Zé

8 - Theme From Sprite - Squarepusher

9 - Just a Rumour - The Beatles

10 - Dirtwah - Kid Spatula

11 - Walkabout - Throbbing Gristle

12 - Sensorama - Global Communication

13 - If I Had a Happy Place This Would Be It - Kid 606

14 - Upside Down - Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush OST

15 - Jet Lag - DMX Krew

16 - Kraak (Plastikman Abstract Mix) - Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia

17 - Root: Untitled (Stereolab Remix) - Thurston Moore

18 - The Fingernails - Aleister Crowley

19 - Punkshit - Kid 606 (I didn't notice he was repeated in the track listing, but I also duped Link and Global Communication, so at least it wasn't a lonely, solitary error.)

20 - Steal Ragga - Shitmat

21 - Husikam Rave Dojo - Venetian Snares

22 - Too Many Fucking Stairs - Enduser

23 - Jerusalem on the Moors - KLF

24 - Jangly Watt.sits on the Prom - Cassetteboy (a third repeat, but when they only last ten seconds it's not so bad.)

So there you go, I tried to steadily raise the lunacy quotient as the disc progressed (with a little lull in the middle as a buffer), though I may have misplaced the Simonetti in that regard, bless him. Hope something in there made it all worthwhile for you.

Cheers!

I love Simonetti as well, I've not heard those classical covers.

Classics in Rock - it's an... interesting album. You've got to admire the sheer demented nature of it, at any rate. If you want to give it a second chance, let me know - though the Burana is quite representative.

I really need to get hold of his 'Horror Project' album as it appears to feature a 'rap hip-hop' version of the Profondo Rosso main theme. The mind boggles.

This is my first week at mix club so I’ve got to mix.

Seriously though, I only really got into music in any meaningful way about 18 months, so I joined up here to try and broaden my musical horizons. I’m pleased to say that Wiper’s introduced me to 10 tracks I’d never heard before and I’m sure I’ll be looking up more tunes by some of these artists.

Overall I very much enjoyed the mix, however I would have liked a little more variation, but I understand that Wiper had his finals this month, (good luck chap), so that’s understandable.

1. Yamine-Furuame:

Good opener, it builds well and is a nice indication of things to come. Love to know what she’s singing about, sounds very passionate about it.

2. Vegan in Furs:

This track has a cheeky 70s vibe about it, but I suspect it’s much more contemporary than that. I liked the lyrics and it gets the foot tapping nicely.

3. Remind me a Song:

A reasonable tune, but didn’t really have enough about it to make it stand out within the mix, except when the trumpet comes in at the end.

4. song song song:

I love the music on this track from the percussion at the beginning to the strings towards the end. It’s a little disappointing that the vocals are a bit weak though. The track’s a welcome change in tone from the first three tunes.

5. +81:

Fanfare opening! Always welcome. To call this song is ‘catchy’ is a bit of an understatement. Nice vocal style too.

6. Part 4 – Palm

Some moody trumpet based jazz here. Though I did enjoy it and found it engaging all the way through, it’s darker tone didn’t sit very well in this fairly light mix for me.

7. Stoker Ace

Love the baseline on this track, perfectly complimented by the sexy vocals. Puts me in the mood for some lovin’. Good stuff.

8. Acid Rain

This dance track builds well and certainly would get me up on the dance-floor, but it seems to run out of places to go after about four minutes and I got a bit bored by the end.

9. Music is my Hot Sex

I new this was going to be Euro-pop after about two seconds. The dodgy lyrics raised a smile, and it’s a perfectly listenable track, but not sure it’s for me. But I suspect the artists weren’t really aiming it at the 30 year old, balding male market.

10. Music Calls you by its Name

I feel I should know who this is but I can’t quite place it. Sounds like later Johnny Cash. Simple vocals and guitar. Its melancholy tone may have worked better juxtaposed with track 6. A nice song though.

11. Huddle Formation

The Go Team! Finally a track I recognise and a belter too. A cracking ending to the mix and fits the overall upbeat tone very well.

Hit me with the artists my good man.

Glad you enjoyed most of the songs, and apologies for the lack of variation - finals will have to do as my excuse!

(Also, I'm glad the track titles came through - unfortunately, though I can write CD-Text, I can't actually read it, so I'm never sure whether it comes out or not! That being said, I've noticed one major typo on my part, so perhaps I should wish for people not to be able to see it )

Track 1 - Shiina Ringo.

If there was one legacy Danryu/Juria left for me, it was recommending this artist years ago. My taste for Jpop has dropped significantly since then, but Shiina Ringo endures, as she actually has a real range in styles.

Track 2 - Of Montreal.

I really like Of Montreal - quirky and fun band, and ever-fond of their puns. Their latest album is an absolute masterpiece though, and - unlike everything else they've ever made, is very, very dark - musically as well as lyrically (whereas their earlier music - this included - tends to be upbeat, even if the lyrics are bleak).

Track 3 - Misty's Big Adventure.

Track 4 - Final Fantasy (er, the singer-songwriter, not the game. Again. I include him far too much)

I adore Final Fantasy, including his voice - still, people's tastes will differ, eh! I'd recommend looking up some of his other music, particularly from this album (he poos clouds) - it's really rather ace, and always beautifully arranged.

Track 5 - Deerhoof

Eclectic. Fun. There really isn't anything else to say about Deerhoof. All of their tracks stand out by right of erring more towards 'fun' than actual 'music'.

Track 6 - John Coltrane

(Incidentally, it's "Part 4 - Psalm", not palm, sorry!). You're probably right about the sudden drop in cheer. Normally I go for a drifting range of emotions in a mix, but it appears for this one all I managed was a random blip in the middle. Still, it's an excellent track, by an old master.

Track 7 - Lovage (Again, a typo - it's Stroker Ace, as in the film/forumite)

Track 8 - Cold Storage

Artist better known as "him what done the Wipeout soundtrack". I really like this track, but like a lot of dance music it does rely on the listener having a high... repetition threshold. Always brings to my mind the theme tune from One Must Fall 2097, too, but that's just me.

Track 9 - Cansei De Ser Sexy

Technically Brazillian-pop, but yeah.

Track 10 - Leonard Cohen

Worst typo here - this is "Love Calls You By Your Name". That being said: damn straight you should have recognised him! :) A classic track from Songs of Love and Hate. Looking back, again I'm not sure why this is here, straight after such cheerful music as CSS. I blame exam-filled brains!

And, yes, the Go Team do make for a lovely, cheery closer

Bleep, I'm really sorry it's so so late, but here's feedback for your mix.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I've never listened to this style of music before, so I have no real knowledge of the genre, and I'd also like to say that I really enjoyed the mix. I would have liked to have spent a bit more time with it before posting feedback too, but it's already so late that I thought I better post something...

1. This track is really interesting, I loved the ominous sounding introduction, I wasn't expecting the funk the first time I heard it! The percussion is fantastically minimal and the synth twinkles and brass sounds are superb. It's just a lot of fun, really. Love the addition of bongos in the outro too...

2. This rhythm section in this is amazing, so menacingly funky! Drags a bit though...

3. Another great introduction. I like the vocals on this, but the upwards reaching piercing synth, while being pretty cool, starts to grate after a while.

4. Solid track. Nice to hear some real brass and strings! Really cool bit about 2 minutes in - the vocals and synth (or is it guitar? I can't tell) are really cool.

5. Once again, good track, no real love or hate parts though.

6. This track I really liked the percussion, it seemed much more prominent than in the other tracks. I like how understated the organ sounding synth was. Perhaps my favourite track...

7. Nice brass in this. These later tracks sound like they were recorded later than the earlier tracks, is the mix chronological?

8. Party time! Wasn't a particular fan of the spoken word parts, but yeah, good track.

9. I like the outro with the parts gradually fading out. Sorry, sort of running out of things to say!

10. This sounds like it's been 'borrowed' for use in a track I've heard recently... hmm...

The only bits I didn't really like were the occasional bits of spoken word empowerment trash talk and sometimes the length of the tracks would run on a touch... but on the whole, the mix had me constantly tapping my feet or nodding my head along. It's quite infectiously danceable. Thanks very much! Tracklist please!

Mine is going out this afternoon, it is terribly weak and wiper will probably cry when he hears it. I feel ashamed. It's been all exams/applications to stuff/mess though, so I have a vague excuse...

Listening to it at the moment - no crying yet :D

Feedback for StephenM

First thoughts on the CD: the cover is slightly worrying. Especially with that disclaimer! Popping it in now...

As usual, this is written as I listen, and so is all from the first listening - my opinions might change with time.

1 - Funky use of guitar, not so keen on the vocals, but the acoustic carries it. I don't know the song, but I think I recognise the artist - John Mayer? It's a nice song, but the vocals don't really do anything for me.

2 - Again some nice guitar, this time electronic and slightly distorted, and backed up by a pleasingly driving drum machine and a damn sexy voice. This is excellent. It also moves nicely from the last track, going from quiet acoustic to quiet electro-influenced indie. I don't know who this is, but I'd very much like to!

3 - The distortion continues, and we're firmly into electronic territory here, again a slight up in volume. Another case of drum machine that's proud of being drum machine, and male vocals of a sort I enjoy. Seems to have an almost industrial feel to it, which really seems to work. I like this song a lot. I'm not sure, but it sounds a bit like Depeche Mode, and I know you like them... is it?

4 - From static to purity, a very 'clean' hip-hop track, with backing moaning that sounds like Thom Yorke at his most wail-y. Not too keen on the use of piano in this one, but I like the chorus and actual rapping.

5 - Good jump in, very nicely done. A like this. A lot. Good, driving rap, similarly driving beat and some very nice backing tunes. Impressed - who is it?

6 - O-kay. This one really doesn't seem to fit in, first track to really jump out too much. A pity, because it's an awesome little electro-tune. I have no idea who this is, but it's fucking brilliant. Details man, details!

7 - The very opening sounds like this could be Lovage..? Ah, singing starts - it's Handsome Boy Modeling School (you know, that completely different and unrelated band :D)! A nice tune, dulcet-tones and velvet-tongued singing (Cat Power, I think?). I've been Thinking's a great track, though again, doesn't really fit with the last track.

8 - Here's Lovage! Fits in well with the last track, unsurprisingly, another good track. Not /quite/ as good as the HBMS track, but Book of the Month is still a good 'un, particularly for the husky backing vocals.

9 - another good rap track, fairly heavy, and another song with elements of industrial to it, good use of distortion and general fuzz. Seems kind've out of place again though. Not quite sure what he's upset about, but the rapper's clearly not happy about something.

10 - mmm, PCP. This is a track about rehab, I think. Lyrically dark, has a good musical build up, and some good rapping over. (Chorus just came on, it's definitely about rehab :D). Excellent track, the build-up doesn't betray the listener - who is this?

Overall, then, I think this is an excellent mix, with some brilliant tracks. The opening (despite containing the song I enjoyed least, number 1) is put together perceptively and works extremely well, there's a bit of a breakdown in the middle/latter part of the mix, but you pick things up again for the end.

Despite being a little scattered at times, the simple quality of the tracks in general makes this a great mix, as it's made me want to go out and listen to a wave of new bands, which is surely the best thing that a mix can do! And to be honest, the bits where flow was lost were only really noticable because of the sections where there was flow - this is one of the better mixes I've received in that respect, in fact, so you really shouldn't worry too much about it!

In all, cheers for the CD, I've really enjoyed it, and once I have a track listing I'll be looking up a good few new bands.
