Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Having completed MW2 (just on Regular) I've popped back onto CoD4. Two years ago I did Act I on Veteran but then raced through Acts II & III on Recruit just to see the levels then never went back to it. For shame.

Trotting through on Regular now (I suck at CoD), as I'm offline until 21st November when I can brave taking MW2 online...

Even after after the graphical excesses of MW2, the Ghillies in the Mist level still looks pretty darn cool.

The end section at the ferris wheel playpark I'm finding a bit of a pain in the butt, even on Regular. I know that I'd never have the skill or patience to do this on Veteran.

On the ferris wheel, stick all your claymores down in front of the steps and then hide on the left side of the platform behind the railings. From this spot you should be able to see the main alley way that all the soldiers will be coming down, along with the building to the right of that and then a fence. Focus your efforts on stopping everyone who tries to flank to the extreme right, by the fence - if they get around the back of the wheel you'll quickly get into trouble. Watch out in particular for groups emerging from behind the fence to the right of the building, as they have a fairly short run to get out of your field of fire. MacMillan should cover the left flank for the most part.

Additionally, grab an AK to deal with anyone who gets too close.

Thanks kindly, I did it before I saw your post in fact, but I shall remember your tippage for if I ever go back on a harder setting.

I sat with my right covered by a tree, which seemed to have the effect of making any attackers on the right stand in plain view on the ferris wheel.

Also, I think I was just less tired as a I breezed through it on my first go yesterday, my sniper aiming was better than the day before and I took quite a few of the rappelling (sp?) copter troops out before they even got to the ground.

Went through the rest of the game with few problems at all bar a few restarts on 'No Fighting in the War Room'.

Finally bought this yesterday as CoD3 online is in its deaththows now, which is a bit of a shame to me.

It seems a lot more like Modern Warfare than CoD3, which is a shame. Also annoying that I can't take part in 'War' mode until I am a level 14. I paid for this, let me play how I want to play! :omg:

Well, it's time I finshed this properly. I have only two levels left to complete on veteran and they're the hardest in the game; No Fighting In The War Room and Mile High Club. But, once step at a time and I guess NFITWR is first. I finished the game on hardened ages ago and attempted No Fighting In The War Room a few times on vet, probably about a year ago.. but can only remember getting killed pretty quickly after entering the tunnels. So I guess I'm looking for tips. I've read the last 15 pages of this topic but most of the chat relates to multi and I've not seen anything specific on those two levels.

I know it's going to be a total bastard so any advice on either level is gratefully appreciated.

NFITWW is time based if I remember correctly - as in the checkpoints only come up if you're moving along at a fairly quick pace. I didn't take any general tips before doing it on Vet, just learn where the enemies appear from and move along crouched when moving round the corner. Once you know where they are coming from you can line up your sights and dispatch them quickly.

But the worst thing is the whole "checkpoint doesn't appear unless you have enough time left" scenario.

A quick look at another thread brings up these timepoints as guidelines for you:

Less than 7mins at the stairs = no check point

Less than 3mins at the large door = no check point.

Good luck!

P.S. It's still easier than Mile High Club though. :)

Thanks man. Well, I decided to finish Call of Duty 2 off first and I finished that last week. Yesterday, with much trepidation, I decided to start on No Fighting In The War Room on veteran. Gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised. I played for about two hours yesterday and made downstairs, through that first area and on to the point where the corridor is barricaded and there's the tunnels left and right (which is where you need to go) so the enemies attack from three directions. That was the tough bit for me, i replayed it a few times but learned a little with each play and got a little further. When I started today I already had my startegy down for most of that part and was able to make it to the door with just under four minutes to spare. Then it was just a case of pushing forward. Job done, 40G for me! :)

I think i'll take a break before I start Mile High Club though...

Started on Mile High Club yesterday, played and replayed it for about at least a couple of hours. I was getting good right up until climbing the stairs then my strategy became more like a desperate man running for the finish. Which doesn't work. Anyway, practiced for another half hour earlier today and was getting better. And just 10 minutes ago I decided to switch on the 360 for another quick practice...

It was beautiful. First run through and it went like a dream, the only point of hesitation was when I thought I'd shot the hostage not the enemy... but no. After I'd skydived out the plane there was a second where the achievement didn't pop up and I thought "hang on have I done this on the right difficulty"? But I had. Ding, 20G, Mile High Club.

Fin. :)

Sort of. I ended up being able to do it like every third time, because I had worked out the sequence for that particular run. If I remember on every certain run the weapons are slightly different and the guys move a slightly different way. So once I had learnt that run it was relatively easy. Still took me about 7 hours over a period of days to get to that. Congrats.

Thanks man. :) Yeah, I'd noticed that the enemies differ slightly for some runs, depending upon how quickly you push forward; racing through seems to make it easier (if you can do it) because less enemies spawn if you keep pressing forward. I also noticed that in the first room there would sometimes be two guys at the end of the corridor (in the alcove before you enter the next area where the breach happens), sometimes only one and if you're really lucky then none at all. Didn't notice different weapons though...

Yeah, that is the only way to do it. You have to clear a path for yourself and let your guys soak up the rest. Flashing the areas and moving through them quickly. I used to duck behind the chairs on the left when the door blows in the second section, flash, then reload the dropped shotgun. Then leg it up the stairs nailing the guys coming down, flash the area. Push up. Flash the corridor and shoot/run/stab the other guys. Picking up weapons is pretty important because you don't have time to reload. About a year or so ago when I was looking on one of the achievement sites only 10 or so percent of people who had the game, had that achievement, so it is quite a feat.

My strategy was similar, flash from behind the seats as you mentioned, then run to the little wooden wall on the left which must be beside one of the planes entrance/exits. The breach would happen then I'd let my two guys clean up whilst I reloaded (whilst carefully watching for the one guy who seems to get randomly missed and ends up killing me there). After I reloaded I'd swap to the pistol and swap it for either the mini Uzi or Skorpion that seemed to be dropped in roughly that area. The up the stairs (letting either one or two teammates go up first, depending on how long the second one takes to get there) always on the right hand side after you get to the stair landing half way. Clear out the remaing guys whilst moving to the first wall (left side this time), through, flashbang, run and shoot (always from the hip here), swapping to the other machine gun if I need to. That takes me to the hostage and finished.

It does feel like a damn good achievement. One of my mates loves/loved CoD4 but despite practising for ages, he never managed MHC. Time to gloat, I think!

CoD4 was the first FPS I'd ever played - I found the learning curve quite steep, and gave up after logging around 100 hours due to being rubbish.

Having become disillusioned with Modern Warfare 2 I picked up a copy of CoD4 yesterday and put in a couple of hours last night. It was a complete breath of fresh air and I enjoyed every minute of it.

There wasn't a single time when I felt annoyed or frustrated with it. Sure there was some latency in a few games, but it was the exception rather than the rule. It doesn't have quite the same graphical fidelity as MW2, and it lacks the visual frills like the callsigns and on-screen remarks like "Double Kill" which I like in MW2, but I found it so much more enjoyable that I simply don't care about those things.

The most obvious missing element is the lack of host migration, but you just have to accept that as a hazard of playing online, and even MW2 can't migrate if the host just quits to the dashboard or switches off in frustration.

I also played some Hardcore TDM having never done so before, and really enjoyed that - having to be careful about where you throw grenades, shoot, or place airstrikes adds more consideration to the proceedings, and seems to promote more communication, with team members warning about imminent airstrikes and covering angles more consciously than in regular TDM. Thanks to Commander Jameson and friends for inviting me to their party - I had a really good time :)

If you're fed up of the additional rubbish in MW2 I can thoroughly recommend going back to CoD4, especially if you're not already bored of it. There seemed to be plenty of people playing still - all of the games had full lobbies.

I'm thinking of going back to COD4. I was away when the Map packs came out for MW2 and now don't really fancy the x amount of points it'll cost to get just a few maps. Plus I never really enjoyed MW2 as much as COD 4. In the same vein as Halo 2, which I really enjoyed, the sequel then comes out and add's a whole load of complications and new gizmos's which I feel detracts from the slightly purer feeling of the first game (Halo 2 and COD 4 respectively).
