He took a pay cut to goto Cardiff didn't he? (or is that rumour untrue).

He obviously just wants to play football. I heard a Welsh fan on 606 saying how he used to turn up to all the Welsh games, playing as many supposed meaningless friendlies as possible...

IMO Bellamy is better then Ngog , so yea its a positive

Bellamy is a match winner on his day. Plus, he works as hard as anyone else and still has great pace to scare defences. I still wish he could have made up with Mancini. Great signing.

As an aside

Under H+G #LFC spent £166,380,000 on transfers,#LFC received £194,900,000 in fees,so H+Gs actual money spent on players: £28,520,000

Mmmm, stats!

Where did you get that quote? I don't know what the correct figures are but the maths there doesn't add up. According to those figures H+G's net spend is £-28,520,000 ie a tidy profit, the scumbags.

Yeah I got it from twitter - and it was actually reposted/corrected a little while ago saying that they'd made a surplus.

That's like saying you got it from 'the internet'. Are all Twitter users equally reliable to you? Because that explains a lot.

What's the point of repeating nonsense here?

It's a minus instead of a plus. I'm sure you'll cope.

A touch negative, but I'm just not seeing the light for Carroll. I want him to improve, but a lot of that will come down to attitude and approach. He's a natural finisher, but he does need a little more to his game. Granted, he's only young, but those are things are the kind of things that come from reflection rather than improvement, I reckon. The price we paid will linger over his head for a long time.

EDIT: Lots of buts

"Just another Whiskey will remove that price tag fear"...

I like the way he just kicks the ball without any grace or finesse. Look at the disallowed goal against Sunderland, he just boots the ball in the most ungraceful way, just swings his foot at it.

This isnt a criticism by the way, I really like his (lack of) style.

I think Capello should just shut the fcuk up. Either pick him or don't pick him - there is no need to drag him through the press so publically like this. Do it in-house, keep it private, have a bit of class. Did he do the same when Rooney was shagging every pensioner he could get his hands on, of course he didn't.

Presumably this pensioner shagging that you refer to was the story in 2004 of Rooney visiting a brothel and sleeping with a Fifty-something (pensionable age?) hooker?

I'm not sure what the Juventus manager would have had to say on that matter, which Capello was at the time, or how relevant it would have been.

Actually didn't he say something about Rooney and Terry when both their exploits came out last year?

But yeah I agree he should have a quiet word with Carroll instead of doing it in public and letting the press dig their claws in.

He's getting his Rooney whores mixed up, he means one of the recent ones.

If you have nothing useful to contribute to the thread GTFO. Preferably have this argument in PM's so people that dont want to scroll past all this shit dont even have to think about it. Thanks.

In other news Liverpool seem to be setting up a club link with Nacional. Find us more like suarez please!

Damien Comolli has revealed that Liverpool are in talks to develop a partnership that could see them recruit the next Luis Suarez.

The Reds secured the signature of their second Uruguayan last week when Sebastian Coates put pen to paper on a long-term deal.

The negotiations further strengthened the club's links with Nacional and our Director of Football admits we are now close to establishing a formal relationship.

Comolli told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I've got to thank the people from Nacional, the directors and their chairman, because they have been very helpful. They tried to help the player (Coates) complete his will, which was to come here.

"They tried to find a solution for us to make it happen. We now have strong links with them because both Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates have come from this club and been developed by their academy.

"We are talking about a partnership with them that we would like to create over the next three, four or five years, to see if there is more talent coming through. Maybe we can help them to develop their standards and in turn have the ability to bring those young players here.

"During the Copa America they had 14 players out of the 23 who had at some point played at Nacional or were developed by Nacional. That is a fantastic record for their academy.

This thread has been shit for absolutely ages. Let's all try to get it back to what it was in the good old days. People used to come in here and actually talk football. These days there's much less activity, and a lot of what little there is, is best ignored. I used to log-in to this forum specifically to check if there were any new posts in this thread. Maybe it's just me, and if it is I'll apologise and piss off, but I really feel like we had a sound bunch of regular posters in here once upon a time. And we had loads of opinions and ideas bouncing off each other. Most of the guys whose posts I used to keep an eye out for have seemingly left, or just stopped posting. Whether they come back or not, it'd be nice if we could get back to having some proper discussions about the club in here again. :blah:

And with that out of the way, am I alone in being much happier with Downing's performance against Bolton in comparison to the other games this season? I felt he did the job we've spent years crying out for really well - namely, sorting out our left wing. I know that he can be effective cutting in from the right, but we're pretty strong on that side, and have been piss-weak on the left for donkeys years. I like that he's versatile enough to come in off that side and still be a threat, but I posted in here after the Arsenal game saying that I wished his swapping flanks could be more limited, and I got my wish against Bolton.

Compare these:

With this:

And I'm sure it's easy to see what I'm talking about. Him being a bit more disciplined in staying on the left not only reduced the percentage of passes he misplaced, but also saw him much more involved in our build-up play when compared with the last home game, and also dramatically improved the shape of the team. Bolton couldn't cope with the width, and we regularly threatened their goal with crosses from wide areas, on both sides of the pitch.
