so when players go out on loan do they pay his wages and just no transfer fee , is that the way it normally works ?

There might be an agreement to pay half his wages (or something like that), considering how much he's on.

I hope Chelsea fuck off about this Meireles thing. Just entirely, really.

Any news on Coates? There's pictures circulating of him signing stuff with a Liverpool-branded pen, probably in Merseyside.

It depends I think. In the case of a player going from a Premiership team to a Championship/lower team quite often the wages will be split or the Premiership team will continue to pay them just so the player gets some first team experience.

When it comes to thinks like Aquaman and Slow Cole going out on loan to fairly big European sides I'd imagine they've offered to take on their wages, or at least a significant proportion of them.

Poulsen off to France

Liverpool FC have tonight confirmed that they have reached agreement with Evian Thonon Gaillard for the transfer of Christian Poulsen.

The French side have now been given permission to talk to the Denmark international.

Good luck, Christian.

In other transfer news, Suarez has updated his Facebook to welcome Coates. :)

I think we are just waiting for the work permit to come through. Suarez might have jumped the gun a tad.

It does look like we are still in the market for a speedy, back-up striker/forward. Bellamy seems to be a no-go because he wants more first-team football, but someone in that mould might* be coming in tomorrow.

*I'm guessing

Coates, got:

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Uruguay international Sebastian Coates on a long-term contract.

The 20-year-old completed his transfer from Nacional after passing a medical and securing a work permit earlier today.

Coates will now link up with his international teammates ahead of their friendly in Kiev on Friday night.

As mooted by Phil McNulty earlier, we can confirm that Liverpool's Joe Cole - who was thought to be on the verge of joining French side Lille - is now in talks with Aston Villa.

Apparently the Hazard thing isn't true either.

It wasn't that believable anyway surely? Why would Lille give anyone first option on their best player when you know you'll have a bidding war next summer, and all for Joe Cole!?

Will be interesting to see if you sign another striker with Ngog gone now though.

Yeah I couldn't see that happening. He'll no doubt have his pick of clubs next summer too.

I reckon we'll bring in another attacking player now we've got Cole off the wage bill.
