Agreed. He was a liability against tricky, speedy players. Decent against target men though. I liked him as a squad player, he always did OK when we needed him (bar a few nightmare games). That said I'd rather him be off the wage bill if it means we'll sign someone more capable in his position.

Which begs the question: surely we have another CB lined up now...?

Why have you lot gotten rid of Kyrgiakos? He seemed to be a great back-up, if not first-teamer.

Dizogg speaks the harsh words of truth. And we have new blood coming through to have as back-up, and we should be focussing on them now.

He's good for a few goals a season from corners though, which is something we lack from our other defenders. Good luck to him in Germany.

This name is a new one on me. The article features no quotes from anyone at LFC about the player, so take with usual pinch of bullshit.

Kuyt gave the ball away softly a few times, at least one such incident resulted in a dangerous counter-attack against us. But he also had their back-line and midfield unsettled with his closing down. Arsenal really struggled to play it out from the back, and resorted to far more long balls than they usually do (much more than we did in the game), and I think Kuyt was a massive part of that. I think they had close to ten corners and Dirk was making lung-busting runs to give us an outlet on the break from all of them. Everyone knows he runs about a lot but I'm not talking about that - the best way I can describe what he was doing is to call it educated pressure. He'd wait for their 'keeper to set himself for the short option, then he'd charge the defence down and time and time again it resulted in them giving the ball away cheaply by hoofing it. He set the tone for our pressing game, and he did it bloody well.

It looked like that on the telly aswell, i'm not really sure why people didnt see it! I didnt really see any player have a particularly bad game but Enrique, Downing and Kelly stood out as having good ones. Kelly does look a really good prospect. :)

Coates was a break out star for Uruguay in Copa America. Huge big defender but no slouch either.

In other news we appear to be trying to get Bellamy back.

That's a weird one, but he'd be a good backup. Massive question marks over his attitude still though.

Him and Suarez in the same team on the same pitch together would be awesome. The pair of them are complete gobshites but they'd be our gobshites and they'd piss opponents off immensely.

Negged you by mistake but I +1d you elsewhere to make up for :)

I'd be happy to have Bellamy back tbh, never really wanted him to leave in the first place. Even for just a season and then next year we find a proper younger 3rd striker. At 32 I still think Bellamy has the build and power to cause havoc

That's the issue for me...he's 32? Hasn't he been a bit injury ravaged the last few years. I don't recall him exactly setting the place on fire at Cardiff.

However I've got complete faith in Kenny - even if he is still at £95,000pw...

Bellamy would be alright... as long as no-one lets him near a set of golf clubs again :coffee:

Saw Coates whilst watching some of Suarez's Copa games and he looked pretty solid, so would welcome his signing if we can nab him in front of City, Juve and the other teams rumoured to be after him.

Cisse back I would like. Not bellamy.

Cisse is dumb and fast. We might as well have just kept Babel if we wanted a player like that. Ok yeah he can score goals but don't think he'd fit in with how we play now. He only just signed for Lazio this summer too. He scored shitloads in Greece (50 goals in 60 games!!) but then Matt Derbyshire was a success there so...

I'd be quite happy to see Bellamy return. He always works hard and I think he would fit in well with the current side. I think he would accept coming in as a backup player too. He's never going to to 40 starts a season any more but he can certainly give us cover and provide a good disctraction as a sub to give Suarez and/or Carroll the space.

I'm also delighted to see Kyrgiakos leave. I never rated him and I certainly don't think he is a liverpool player. The signings of him and Paul Konchesky reminded me of the painful days when we decided that signing Julian Dicks and Neil Ruddock was a good idea.

Bit on Coates, bit on Bellamy and a preview of Exeter:

Dalglish, meanwhile, has admitted last season's embarrassing Carling Cup exit at home to Northampton Town will influence Liverpool's approach to their second-round tie at Exeter City on Wednesday, although there will be several changes to the side that beat Arsenal on Saturday and there could be a debut for the 16-year-old winger Raheem Sterling.

:omg:

Oh my gosh! I've seen him on LFCTV (my brothers got in) and he just looks amazing at times!

I was coming in to say I'm already excited for the game and this has pumped my excitement up by at least a factor of 12! I was hoping to see some changes, Sterling would be amaze...

Edit - chance of Doni playing tonight?
