Soto seems to be going :(

Yeah I just saw that, training with Wolfsburg already apparently. Pacheco looks like he'll be off this week too, and Insua doesn't seem to be getting a look in.

We must be after a centre back and an attacker to be letting Soto and Ngog go.

I'd like to see:

------------------Doni

Flanagan Skrtel Wilson Robinson

----------Spearing Shelvey

---------Cole Meireles Maxi

-----------------Carroll

I know it's early in the season but I think that, thanks to Copa America, Lucas and Suarez should sit this one out. I'd also give Cole a go despite his shiteness purely on the off-chance he can offer something and give Dirk a breather.

Joe Cole giving Dirk a breather, genuine

I know. But I'd still sooner see Cole thrown on and play like he always does, than Kuyt have to play most of the game again. I know he seems super-human but he's also in his thirties now and there's no sense in burning him out - it could quite easily come back to haunt us later on in the season. And you never know, maybe he'll do a few step-overs, score a deflection and convince one of these clubs that are sitting on the fence to put an offer in.

anyone who is looking to shoot down one of our players instead of trying to cheer them on is not a fan as far as i'm concerned

I think it's an interesting statistical breakdown. Plus tracking his progress will be good.

Must be pretty nerve wracking for the lad, playing right in CM at such a big club - if anyone can turn him round it will be Kenny

Turn what around, it's been two games and he's looked quite good overall.

You read the site I take it?

Did you watch the games at all? He played wide right against Sunderland whereas Charlie Adam played alongside Lucas. He was ahead of a young full back who he had no partnership with whatsoever. He started brightly and faded, as did most of our players.

Against Arsenal he didn't look too good as part of our middle 3 but Dirk had a stinker so he didn't really have an outlet. He looked much happier linking up with Meireles when he came on and moved further wide.

He's not been brilliant but he's not been cack. Overall he looks tidy and shown flashes of promise while not stinking up the place.

So did you check the stats/site or not? You didn't respond.

Yeah I watched them. I felt he was decent enough. I'm not quite sure why you're deciding to get into some strange discussion here - are you going to pick up Dogsout on saying that Kuyt was good on Saturday when he kept giving the ball away? No? Thought not. Goodness.

In other news - so long Soto:

Yes, I did and I also saw other stats on RAWK so I'm choosing to base my opinion on what I see for now rather than stats from two tough games with a disjointed midfield.

I'm not going to debate Kuyt's performance with dogsout because he was actually there so presumably he saw something different to me and I won't challenge that. In my opinion he had a stinker and I think we can all agree that Henderson looked better with Meireles on the pitch.

I'm not saying he's shite or he should be dropped but on the telly it didn't look like he covered himself in glory.

I didn't think Kuyt had a good game either. Lucas, Enrique, Kelly and Downing were the pick of the bunch, until the subs.

I agree with the ramone.

I disagree! I thought he looked a bit ropey! Agger seems to be a player who never gets criticized and talked about like he's Sami Hyypia. While I'm not saying rag on agger or anything but he he really does get unconditional love.

Now you're just disagreeing because of that point, and the fact that he had a good game is irrelvant to you.

I'm not one to blindly praise Agger, he's had several good spells for us between injuries but has never quite been fantastic (except that CL semi against Chelsea where he kept Dorgaba quiet, the reurn leg I think).

Maybe its just so fucking refreshing to see us with a defender who can play a bit? When he was marauding into the last third of the pitch at the beginning when Frimpong took him down... I love seeing that. Something that Carra and Skrtel wouldn't do in a million years and I think its really important to have that.

Oh yeah I love seeing that. I didn't actually see that bit though.

The point about him not being critisized.

Where's Dinobotch with a link to some statistical analysis of Agger vs Arsenal, that'll solve this once and for all.

Kuyt gave the ball away softly a few times, at least one such incident resulted in a dangerous counter-attack against us. But he also had their back-line and midfield unsettled with his closing down. Arsenal really struggled to play it out from the back, and resorted to far more long balls than they usually do (much more than we did in the game), and I think Kuyt was a massive part of that. I think they had close to ten corners and Dirk was making lung-busting runs to give us an outlet on the break from all of them. Everyone knows he runs about a lot but I'm not talking about that - the best way I can describe what he was doing is to call it educated pressure. He'd wait for their 'keeper to set himself for the short option, then he'd charge the defence down and time and time again it resulted in them giving the ball away cheaply by hoofing it. He set the tone for our pressing game, and he did it bloody well. Enrique, Lucas and Adam (first 20 minutes aside) were the stand-outs, for me. But the likes of Kuyt and Carroll put in a very good shift for the team.

Kelly looked great too. Lots of positives from that game.

What I found the most satisfying (and I would have felt the same had it finished 0-0) is that it is the first time in an age where I've seen us look assured and comfortable at Arsenal. I'm so used to feeling tense and nervous as they pass their way through us - and yes, it wasn't their strongest team by a fair way - but I felt calm and confident due to how settled we looked.

Why have you lot gotten rid of Kyrgiakos? He seemed to be a great back-up, if not first-teamer.

He was good at some things (big, solid, good on set pieces) but he's also an big old clumsy twat. Pretty immobile. Doesn't suit the way we want to play. We're not Stoke.
