Just re-watching the highlights on MOTD. Massively satisfying second goal, doing an Arsenal to the Arsenal. Raul must be in for a shout in the starting line up with such an attacking performance.

Also the first goal - a really good point is that Suarez didnt touch the ball. So it wasn't offside...and the goal was conceded due to a lack of tracking from Ramsey and the young Spanish centre back with a stupid attempted clearance.

Arsenal could really be in trouble this year unless they really dig in.

I don't think it matters if he touches the ball, just that he is "actively involved" with play; which Suarez undoubtably was.

Personally, it was marginally offside, but offside nonetheless. But, hey, I'm not complaining. :)

What was raul so T/Oed about?

The finger? I heard it was in jest - as FlimFlam gave Lucas the finger after the sending off...?

If so most certainly give him an extra game ban I'd say.

Kind of game we would have lost a year ago under "the vastly experienced" Hodgson.

ed: Cheers for sorting my neg, whoever it was. I was wondering if my Hodgson comment was unfair, but he wouldn't have taken advantage of the situation.

Yeah it was unfair. It's the kind of game we would not have won under rafa either.

Apparently Capello is considering giving Kelly a call up...

As an aside I had no idea Robbie Keane had gone to LA Galaxy; when did that happen? He scored on his debut.

I was going to make this point yesterday - when we had Arsenal down to 10 men a couple of seasons back Rafa either didn't have the belief or talent to push for a winner, and we drew 1-1 after having the extra man for a fair bit.

Great stats here I'll quote one part:

http://www.eplindex.com/liverpool-statistical-emirates-domination/

For the first time in 18 months – incidentally also against Liverpool – Arsenal enjoyed less than 50% of the ball at home. Missing personnel undoubtedly played a part, but it wasn’t so much a case of the Gunners misplacing the ball; the two sides were virtually matched on accurate passes and pass completion.

...and some Arsenal fans think they were unlucky to lose? Pscht.

Bit of a simplistic comparison. Different games with different personnel. Is that the match where Keane scored for us a couple of seasons back? The sending off actually steeled Arsenal in that game, as we were looking stronger before Adebayor got sent off, but did actually come close to a goal towards the end.

They also had a stronger team back then and we didn't have the likes of Suarez to come off the bench. Nor did we benefit from a slice of luck like we did yesterday with the first goal.

I think you're somewhat missing the point. It was claimed for some bizarre reason that yesterday was a game we wouldn't have won under hodgson. This was the issue. Of course it was a stupid simplistic point. I stated we wouldn't have won it under rafa either (he would have brought on aurelio) because we didn't.

There's no need to leap to rafa's defence, we've all, apart from the dolt who mentioned hodgson, moved on. Perhaps it is time you did?

You've moved on, really? You barely come in this thread when Liverpool are doing well or ok, and then when you do, one of the first things you do is pick up on someone mentioning Hodgson (Who you seem to defend a lot) and then pop in a little rafa dig.

You are right, 99% of this thread's supporters have moved on, but you aren't one of them.

And why is he a 'dolt' for mentioning Hodgson? It was a simple comment but a true one, I don't think Hodgson would have had the balls to stick Suarez and Meireles on at 1-1.

As for saturday's game, it seem to have 0-0 written all over it until the touch of luck we got from the first goal. I felt the midfield of Lucas and Adam didn't have enough bite about it, not enough steel. Downing looked excellent though, and one thing I like about him is he isn't afraid to shoot. To offen in the recent past we have not had the players (apart from Gerrard) who will take a crack on target, Downing doesn't seem to have that problem. It's certainly impressive as well to have a bench like the one on saturday. Plenty of options and plenty of experience.:)

Moving on to this week, I'm hoping a few of the fringe players will get to play against Exeter along with some of the younger lads who will be coming through in the next few years. Bolton certainly won't be an easy game on saturday either, as they showed against City, they don't lie down and die for the big boys like others do.

Hopefully all our unwanted players don't get wheeled out and play ahead of people like Shelvey, Wilson, Maxi etc.

How was it true? You're telling me arsenal down to 10 men hodgson would not have brought on his best player? And it was nil nil at the time. Hodgson who never played arsenal away. Who only (thankfully) had 30 games in charge. You see it was just an unfair and stupid thing to sat especially when the manager previous to hodgson actually hadn't won at arsenal in the league and had a history of drawing more games than anybody, even moreso than that artist who does nothing but draw games.

And I don't come in here much because there's nothing that's concerning me too much about how things are progressing and I hate pretty much every one of you.

Ok sorry, I shouldn't have used the word 'true', but from a personal opinion I don't think he would have gone for the win by putting on both those players and from a personal point of view I couldn't see us winning that game under Hodgson. we are never going to know, but on a forum thats not really the point. Fair enough with the rest of what you said, he didn't play Arsenal you are right, but we are on an internet forum here, everyone has and likes to air their own opinion so I don't think its a particularly stupid point to say, even if it was said in a more definitive way rather than an expression of his opinion.

The main thing I hate about forums, if you say one thing slightly wrong you get beaten on, for it!

So with your last statement you literally come in here when there is something to moan about with Liverpool FC rather than speak about the good times. Says it all really.

Anyway, I'm with Vezna, I'm hoping we don't see Cole and Aquilani playing against Exeter as Aquilani is surely leaving and Cole, well he's not really fit in to our style of play at all.

I'm going for:

Doni

Flanno Skrtel Soto Enrique

Spearing Raul

Kuyt Henderson Maxi

Carroll

He'll probably keep it as a bit of a mix, seeing as we've only got 3 things to play for this season.

Also, I forgot to mention this last week, Shelvey was awful in the NextGen game on Wednesday. He should've been the best player on the pitch, but it just looked like he couldn't be bothered. He needs to get his head straight and realise he needs to play well whenever he's called upon, even if it's for the u19s, if he wants to make it here.

I'd rather Pepe but I guess Doni will get League Cup matches.

Soto seems to be going :( so would put Wilson in there and have Insua at left back.

I wouldn't drop Lucas, I'd make him captain. Henderson, Maxi and Pacheco or Shelvey. It's a shame we can't play anyone up front with Carroll, reckon Dirk doesn't suit him and Suarez needs resting from this game. And of course no Ngog either.

We need an attacker.

I'd like to see:

------------------Doni

Flanagan Skrtel Wilson Robinson

----------Spearing Shelvey

---------Cole Meireles Maxi

-----------------Carroll

I know it's early in the season but I think that, thanks to Copa America, Lucas and Suarez should sit this one out. I'd also give Cole a go despite his shiteness purely on the off-chance he can offer something and give Dirk a breather.
