The 2 Spanish Jose's are definitely gonna be club favourites :)

Happy with the result, but we could have played much MUCH better in the middle, Adam was a bit careless at times and until Mereiles joined in there was no support high up the pitch at all. Carroll was completely isolated.

75mins in first game, 19 this game

Don't know about shots, but he's not had many

Because I am a stats whore:

Luis Suarez:

GPG: 1.00 (Goals Per Game)

MPG: 47 (Minutes Per Goal)

SH%: 1.000 - (Shooting Percentage) prior to today according to www.premierleague.com (where is the best place to find individual player stats?)

Also Pepe Reina:

GAA: 0.5 (Goals Against Avg)

SV%: 0.916 (Save Percentage) - Only takes into account shots he had to save

CS: 1 (Clean Sheets)

Who's the Arsenal fan who spent most of the match negging all the positive comments about Liverpool in the LIVERPOOL thread? I've rectified most of them anyway.

God knows, I sorted one out as well, weird.

ed: Heh, there does seem to be someone going through this thread negging away, pretty sad.

ed, ed: haha, this person got alt accounts or are there a lot of unhappy arsenal fans?

Also sorry for my double post! Not sure if there's a way to merge..?

Made up, about bloody time we had a win at Arsenal. Circumstances helped us, but very pleased we took full advantage.

Buzzing.

Kind of game we would have lost a year ago under "the vastly experienced" Hodgson.

ed: Cheers for sorting my neg, whoever it was. I was wondering if my Hodgson comment was unfair, but he wouldn't have taken advantage of the situation.

From the Arsenal thread, earlier:

Well contrary to accepted wisdom, you do win things with kids and today we'll demonstrate that by sweeping aside the pathetic challenge offered by Liverpool with a comprehensive and humbling mauling of their back four. Our fans might be grumps but I can tell you who's pissing their pants right now - Jamie Carragher. A stream of nervous urine trickling down his Lonsdale tracksuit bottoms and pooling his school shoes, simply at the thought of being put on his back end by the collective pace and power of our squad of olympic sprinters. "It'll be alright, Jamie. It'll be alright", they'll tell him as he shifts uncomfortably about on his bus seat. But it won't be alright. It won't be alright.

Jamie Carragher, best defender on the pitch today. Laffo.

We should have beaten that shower earlier. I say shower, they're a shadow of what they used to be. Frimpong should have been sent off twice (the second yellow was fucking horrid, I'm so glad Lucas walked away with a whole shin) and Carroll couldn't catch a break from the ref. Still not convinced by Adam but a deserved victory.

Your irony detector is broke.

It was great to see us playing positively and looking to impose ourselves for the majority of the game, and then still pushing forward after the first goal. Still room for improvement in certain areas, but when we're away to Arsenal and our centrebacks make it to full-time relatively untroubled, something is right.

Glad we got the win in the end it looked like it would end up 0-0 until the fluky goal.

To dominate possession and limit Arsenal to literally no chances in the entire match away is partly down to our improvements but also due to just how ravaged Arsenal are by their sales / injuries. It is a real shame what is happening to Arsenal.

Thought Adam was pretty poor most of the game and have generally been disappointed with him. Downing on the other hand played very well and is looking like a great buy. Still undecided on Henderson.

Ref was dire making poor decisions against both sides.

I'm just back from the Emirates. I've not seen any highlights yet but off the top of my head:

- Adam was shit for the first 20 minutes but really got into the game after that. I thought him and Lucas bossed the second half.

- Downing was pretty frustrating. He looked good on the ball but spent far too much time on the right, for my liking. There were loads of times that the ball would break to the left and all that was there was Enrique, shit loads of space and two Arsenal players. Kuyt looked pretty pissed off with him after one such incident. I'd definitely prefer to see him playing predominantly from the left, particularly when Andy is on the pitch.

- Lucas is boss.

- Loads of Arsenal fans muddling through the Suarez chant outside the ground after the game.

- Kuyt was great and Henderson was tidy.

- Enrique is a player. He's much better than I expected him to be.

- Although he managed to frustrate me with a couple of sloppy passes and blazing a good chance wide, I was impressed with Meireles' movement and intelligence. A very handy player to have in the squad.

AND I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO GET ENOUGH SUAREZ

They gave Enrique MOTM on Sky and I thought he had a good game too, I have also been surprised just how well he has fit in and how good he looks. As someone else said in this thread before he looks a bit like Arbeloa in that he is technically very good. Seems to have a bit more about him going forward though.

The Arsenal fans seem rather agreived that they lost due to an offside goal/etc and were unlucky.

Yet they couldn't make possession stick for them or do anything useful. That the felt their best player was someone who got sent says a lot - how different might it have been had Fabregas been playing instead of new boy FlimFlam?

For all his apparent great play he never really dictated play or did anything else apart from charging about like an idiot.

We did restrict them and as noted in some excellence posts already, our defence dealt with nearly everything without much trouble.

Decent stuff; and now Exeter!

I might have said this before in here but one of the things I like about Suarez is the fact that he looks like a right little arsehole. If he was on another team I'd fucking despise him. He's like our version of Ronaldo, just a really punchable cunt of a man but frustratingly good at football. Of course, he plays for us so I love him.

I think we've lacked that for a long time, you could argue Gerrard was a bit like that for other teams but not to the same level. Suarez is gonna really piss people off and we've been missing that aspect in our team I think. As much as I liked Torres he seemed a bit too nice. Suarez won't take any shit and winds people up.

 totally agree +1 for you.

How was Carroll, dogsout?

I watched the game but you don't always get a clear idea of how a striker plays from TV cameras, especially one who stays so high up the pitch.

I thought he looked a handful, really. Although Arsenal dealt with him quite well, he pressed and harried them, and was a constant outlet for us, which was very useful in the rare times that we were under any pressure. I'm a lot more confident now (after seeing him up against a good defence, first hand) that he'll be a success and can see him being really useful both home and away - for entirely different reasons.

Suarez has a far better feeling for linking the play compared to either Torres or that other bustly shitbag Tevez. More skilful than either, perhaps lacking Torres pace - he makes up for that with guile and strength. Overall we could argue more important abilities; as we've seen Torres lose pace through injury, Suarez won't lose his understanding of the game similarly.

It was a good descion to leave him on the bench yesterday. He seemed to flag against Sunderland quite noticeably in the second half; brining him on fresh really invigorated us.

Ta. He looked a frustrated figure at times, some of his flicks weren't coming off, and others were going into space with no support. He looked willing at all times despite this, which is a good sign and hopefully will get his rewards.

On a side note, Kuyt could play anywhere couldn't he? His tackling yesterday was superb.
