Well...yeah, I imagine that the starting requirements are high because there'll be a small number of seats relative to our away following. I imagine it'll drop to STH and fan card holders/members because it is a trek for most.

Only watched it on MOTD but from what I saw I'm very excited about the season ahead. We were unlucky today when it came down to Richardson not being sent off, Carrolls' disallowed goal and Suarez missing the penalty (well not unlucky as such with the last one), but those type of things will no doubt go with us on another occasion. A draws not ideal at home but its not the end of the world. Did Meireles get any game time at all? If not, why not when Suarez was tiring.

lol, how did I get negged for this? Some people are bizarre. I'm really looking forward to saturdays game, I'm sure we will play more conservative away fromhome with Kuyt coming in on the right, but its Suarez I'm keen to see more of. Arsenal are there for the taking I reckon.

How do you think we'll set up?

I reckon it'll be the same bar Kelly or Glen in for Flanagan, and Dirk in for Henderson. I'm really looking forward to this one - I'm going with two of my brothers, and it's my first trip to the Emirates.

Reckon it'll be a different team:

Pepe

Kelly Carra Soto Enrique

Spearing Lucas Adam

Kuyt Carroll Downing

Suarez probably on the bench due to fitness and to target Arsenal's CBs with crosses. Luis on in the second half against a tired, weak Arsenal back line with Lucas and Spearing harrying and Adam doing his thing should be good. Only worry is no Agger but should be able to take the game to them. Hope we see Aquilani and Maxi on the bench as well.

Are you trying to give them a couple of goals of a start. You want to play him against a fast nippy team!

No, I don't but Skrtel is injured and apparently Agger is too (dogsout says he's fit though so I don't know) but we don't have any real depth at CB. If Agger is fit then him all day, every day.

It amazes me why we cannot produce a decent centre back out of thin air through our academy system?

I have my doubts that buying someone like Cahill for a bucket load of cash will fix our defensive woes in the long term.

Fear not, today's Echo reported that Agger is fit, and that's just been backed up by the post:

Liverpool will have Daniel Agger available for selection, after the Dane shook off a dead leg sustained against Sunderland at the weekend.

[edit] Kenny has said we'll only be missing Johnson and Stevie. Skrtel on the bench with Kelly at right back, then?

I hope Kelly starts at right-back. Flanagan was pretty shaky against Sunderland, and against Arsenal mistakes are more likely to be punished. Kelly ought to be the first choice right-back imo anyway if they're both fit (and if Johnson's out of course).

Agreed. I'm hoping for:

------------Reina

Kelly--Carra--Agger--Enrique

--------Lucas--Adam

Kuyt------Suarez-----Downing

-----------Carroll

What a difference a summer makes!

Thats how I reckon we will set up to. Im hopinf for Aquilani on the bench though, think he has so much to offer with Gerrard out.

I'd love Aquilani to be used as well, but I think Kenny's made his decision (if it was his to make) already - he didn't even make the bench last week. For whatever reason, it looks like he'll be gone before the window closes.

well it'll certainly be a shame if that happens. With Henderson for me unproven and Adam still to prove he can manage a whole season in a top team without going missing, I'd hope we keep as much cover as possible. Also, if you think about needing to win in a tight game, its 0-0 and nothing is working to break down the opposition defence, being able to call on Meireles and Aqua who be heaven.

I don't think Henderson is competing with Aquilani as - aside from my belief that Aquilani is out of the equation - I reckon Henderson will be competing for that slot on the right in most games. That means we don't have to use Dirk as much as we have in the past; particularly against the lesser teams when we can afford to lose some effort in favour of craft. It's early days still but, assuming 4-2-3-1 is the mainstay this season, I think it's quite likely that the squad breaks down like so:

The 'two':

Lucas, Spearing (ball-winners)

Adam, Gerrard (creators)

Shelvey, Henderson (utility)

The 'three':

Downing, Maxi (LMs)

Suarez (free-role)

Kuyt, Henderson (RMs)

Meireles, Cole (utility)

The 'one':

Carroll, Kuyt (and Suarez covering if the other two are out).

Unless we move to a proper 4-3-3 with Suarez playing wide, I can't see Meireles getting many games in centre-midfield this season. In the advanced midfield positions we have a host of players that could play behind the striker or wide either side, so I think that will be a feature of our play. However, I do think we'll be a lot more rigid from the midfield 'two' back.

Game on Saturday; should have been put to bed early on.

It seems that we didn't penetrate enough either down the middle or service into the box wasn't coming.

Conclusions? It takes time.

Not worried about it at the moment. Plus I think Sunderland will do very well this season, think a game against them is fine seeing as it's first game of the season. Would be more worried if we played crap.

Judge come January, make or break around then if you ask me!

I can see us winning, just to make it Arsenal's worst week, or something. Not like losing to us is the worst thing, but yeah. I don't want us to play all the new guys together again, there's still some cohesion that needs to be found; so many stray balls last week went nowhere.

Anyway, the pressure's on them more than us, so there's that.

have we beat them at the emirates yet?

hey folks anyone have a stream or sopcast channel i cant get on the usual places :(

i used to use athenet.tv and myp2p.eu, now i use liveonlinefooty.com - £6 for 2 months but well worth it, hd streams as well as ones for lower bandwidth sometimes & they show more than just footy too. they have sky sports news on one of the channels too, which is good for me cause they robbed it off my freeview!
