Inspired stuff for the first 45, but performance really dropped after half-time. Bit of a concern to see a fairly ordinary Sunderland side look pretty untroubled for the latter part of the game. Truly a game of two halves.

I didn't see the game was in the pub. But a couple of things, why would Adam not be our penalty taker in the absence of Gerrard and Kuyt and should it been a goal or was it rightfully disallowed?

If you are a Liverpool fan you will think it should have been a goal, if you were a Sunderland fan you would probably think it was rightly disallowed.

Carroll touched the defender with his arm as he jumped and he missed the header so it fell to Carroll, hard to tell whether it was because of the touch or not as it didnt seem to change his body shape.

Henderson did quite well, I think. The team as a whole suffered as soon as Suarez began to tire. Without his invention and movement up top it became very difficult.

Carroll looked very good in the first half. Flanagan was the weak link, for me, he made quite a few mistakes during the game and I'm very surprised Kelly was only on the bench. Maybe Dalglish is looking to get him more experience at centre back.

All the new signings did well today, looking forward to seeing Downing more too. He was definitely the best Liverpool player today.

Only watched it on MOTD but from what I saw I'm very excited about the season ahead. We were unlucky today when it came down to Richardson not being sent off, Carrolls' disallowed goal and Suarez missing the penalty (well not unlucky as such with the last one), but those type of things will no doubt go with us on another occasion. A draws not ideal at home but its not the end of the world. Did Meireles get any game time at all? If not, why not when Suarez was tiring.

Yes he did, when Suarez was tiring ;)

There were some good signs in that first half, and I dont think the second half was the disaster some are claiming it to be.

Carroll was defended well but didnt quite look sharp enough to get in ahead of the defenders either, there were a few low crosses where he just needed to get a yard ahead and stick a foot on it, hopefully that will come. He won a LOT of headers but never realy had that one clear cut chance either, again, with the kinda delivery we were getting from Enrique, Adam and Downing, these will come.

I was impressed with Carragher and Agger, they were only really troubled on the counter when Sunderland ran through the middle at us. Enrique looked at home straight away, covered his areas well and looked comfortable on the ball as we know he can be from his Newcastle days. Flanagan seemed a litte nervy and gave the ball away on a number of occasions, and went missing for the equaliser, but its far too early for us to be worrying about his long term potential.

Overall, disapointing to draw after a dominant opening 45 minutes but there were some very good signs there.

It's part of a rule isn't it?. I guess the argument for it not being a red was that he was going away from goal, but you can argue he had to so he could get round the keeper

Anyway, it's not what cost use the point's so I'm not too concerned. Our inability to keep up the game in the second half is something that we need to address asap as it's a frequent issue.

Yeah well still he denied the opportunity so sure that means it's a red anyway.

Bloody hell, you can argue this all day.

Personally I think he should have gone for it, but we can only assume the ref didn't think it was a clear goalscoring opportunity. In fact he gestured as much at the time.

AlwaysBeClosing was saying last man isn't a rule it's the goal scoring opportunity that gets you a red and provided the rules about it. So no, I can't really argue it all day it's a clear red. Most people would say 1 on 1 with the keeper even with a defender on you heels is a goal scoring opportunity (we've all seen them given) obviously the ref saw different from his angle so that's that I guess unfortunately.

The biggest issue is why we seemed to tire out and go to sleep so much in the 2nd half. Can only hope it's not a continuing thing. But a 1-1 draw against a tough side isn't the worst of starts so I'm not too phased by it.
