You seem to be assuming he could just walk into our team.

He can barely walk he's that unfit. I'm not assuming anything, rather you are it seems. What I'm considering is what happens if we lose more midfielders.

Exatly, so he's not gonna get particularly fit sitting on our bench is he. Of course he's more likely to get game time at Rangers, but not unless he puts the hard work in first, which he just doesn't seem mentally capable of.

I think most Liverpool fans have gotten over it now, so why does he keep cropping up with this shit.

I got over it when it took him about 3 months to score for Chelsea.

This. I dont really get why people are so determined to hate previous players. He has moved on, we have moved on. We got a lot of money for his transfer and he played great for us. I dont see what there is to be angry about.

By and large it's difficult to hate most players, but occasionally some go out of their way to piss on the people that supported them in the first place. Like a certain Welsh midget. :coffee:

Many of the players that leave us do so under good terms and frequently still show support for the club long after they leave. We should also remember that controversial headlines sell papers and it's not difficult to twist things.

Bolton have just come out and denied that Gary Cahill is on the verge of joining us. I can't recall anywhere suggesting he was in any case, but never mind.

Wouldn't mind if we splashed a bit of cash on him and Dann, mind. I know Bolton are asking ridiculous money for Cahill so it's unlikely we'd get him, but Dann's a good bet at £10mil if his form last season was anything to go by.

Saw a Bolton fan elsewhere suggest cash + Ngog was being offered. Judging how internet rumours usually originate David Ngog was probably just seen buying a Michael Bolton CD.

Are we that concerned about the CB position?

I mean we have Agger (who hopefully can stay fit for 30+ games this year), Skrtel and Carragher, and if they can settle quickly then we can start to bring Wilson in, and Kelly looks like he'd be a colossus wherever he's played.

I think a bigger problem has been a lack of support from our full backs since Finnan and Riise moved on. I think Kelly can provide that, tucking in as a 3rd CB when needed and Insua showed signs of being able to cover his defensive duties well. But Johnson, for all his attacking talent and occasional well-timed tackling can look a bit lost when we're under pressure.

I hope Poulsen starts playing like Iniesta but its pretty unlikely.

I'd be happier to just stick with the CBs we've got, at least until January. Cahill has plenty of suitors and would undoubtedly cost mega money. If we're talking about a free transfer then course why not, but for massive £ I'd rather stay optimistic that Agger/the centre backs we have can remain injury free.

We always have the January window to look at bringing in someone then if needs be.

That's a very risky plan. We cannot rely on Agger to stay fit for any amount of time. I like him as a player but we just can't. Since joining us he's missed 116 league matches. Is this the season that Carragher becomes too old? Based on his patchy form last season, I'd say that's quite possible. Skrtel was decent under Kenny last season, but looked finished as a player at this level under Hodgson in the first half of the season. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he could revert to playing like a blind paranoid schizophrenic. Our back-up options are Kyrgiakos, Wilson and Kelly. I don't want to see any of them have an extended run at CB in the league. Kelly looks an awesome prospect but I'd rather not rush him into playing at CB just yet.

Given the fact that we have money, I see no reason at all to postpone the search for a CB any longer, unless we are not happy with the options available to us. It was right of Kenny and Comolli to address other areas of the squad first but I think, having sufficiently strengthened our priorities, it would be prudent to focus on a CB now.

Agger is too injury prone to be hopeful for him. Skrtel is injured and has had problems in the past with his calf so that would be a niggling worry for him too.

That would leave Carragher, who has suffered injury and isn't getting any younger. Kyrgiakos, who is definitely a squad player, is ok against aerial bombardment but any kind of pace/trickery and he is like a lost sheep. Also Kelly and or Ayala could be available but neither would induce confidence at centre back right now.

Centre back isn't a priority right now, that would be left back, but if Cahill became available at a half decent price then I would suggest Liverpool snap him up super quick.

@ dogsout: You make very good points and I agree with most of them really. But I guess that's my point about being optimistic: Agger has had horrific injury problems, perhaps this is the season where he finally has a decent run of games. I'm certain Dalglish/Clark must've had a good look at him fitness-wise and given him a good going over (ooer!) at the end of last season in deciding if CB ought to be a priority to reinforce. The fact that we haven't signed anyone at CB yet and we're 2 weeks away from the beginning of the season tells me that they have faith in him to stay fit, as well as Carragher being able to perform as well as he has/can.

Massive fingers crossed that this Skrtel set back yesterday doesn't turn out to be serious, he was like a brand new signing under Dalglish; the guys sitting in the row behind at Anfield even stopped calling him Skittle towards the end of the season - in honour of his new found form.

I do understand the need for a CB, but i'd rather see the ones already at the club given a chance to play. I guess we'll know in the next 10 days or so, if we don't sign another then Kenny must be pretty confident that Kelly/Wilson can step in should Agger struggle with injury again, or Carragher's influence starts to diminish even further.

I wish :(

Enjoy, dude.

Ta :) Probably the only chance I'll get to see the first team this season. Hoping to see the NextGen matches though.

LFC TV are just showing the build up, the match is only on ESPN and LFC TV Online.

And mypremium.tv ;)

Lucas and Suarez are still on their holidays. I think they'll be back in training next week. Both are definitely missing the start of the season, as far as I've heard.

I thought Lucas had been back training since Monday?
