Yeah Sylvain. Kenny is still big into the local and English tallent but I'm sure he also realises you can't rely on that and need to look elsewhere.

Now I'm hearing we are prepared to pay up to £20m for some Brazilian wonder kid Lucas Rodriguez.

Apparently it's $20m Brazilian Reals, about £8m. Loving the amount of players we're being linked to right now, and the European window hasn't even opened yet.

Probable team bus for next season:

Not really seen him if he's the one I think he is. He's mostly played for Sao Paulo in the state championship games, which can be total mismatches. He made a big noise at the u20 championships earlier this year, think he ended up top goalscorer. He's an attacking midfielder, of the sort they churn out quite a lot. Probably would be a good buy on the cheap, but its so hard to say how they will adapt to English football. But for 8 million probably a good punt, he's not the best young Brazilian midfielder out there (thats probably Ganso), but he's not far off.

EDIT: Oh, its Marcelinho, yeah, he is worth a punt at 8 million. He came on against Scotland in the recent friendly didn't he? Seem to remember him being impressive.

Old player news. Torres talks exclusively to the sun today. Clever boy.

Marveux; heard he wanted guaranteed starts and wouldn't get them?

Zapata from Udinese is rumoured to being lined up...

If you are in for Lucas, then I think 20 is going to be nearer the mark rather than 8 million. There's been a lot of hype around him, and he was close to signing for Milan earlier this year I think. When you look at the fees being asked for Neymar (who was worse than him at the u20 championship) and the Leandro who plays for Independiente (only really kicked into life this year) then 8 million seems to be very cheap. Particularly as I don't think Sao Paulo are under any pressure to sell after flogging Lucas Piazon to Chelsea. They've actually been bringing players back from Europe (Luis Fabiano notably) rather than selling them recently.

If this lad is as good as you and others elsewhere suggest, and we do end up buying him, I don't doubt we'll pay more than £8m, but the link about our bid suggests R$20m is the initial offer.

Or the phoneline was bad when we made the offer and we meant 20 million sterling.

Guys stop posting transfer speculation bullshit. No offence but there is so much of it that if we posted it all then the thread would be consumed by it!

There is a place for it but this thread isn't really "in depth" enough for us to really discuss it.

All this talk of Meireles leaving seriously worries me. I know at the moment it is just that, 'talk', but as much as I enjoy us being linked with loads of good players, I dislike hearing rumours of our top players leaving. And to me, Meireles is a top player that showed huge promise last year and I expect to go on to do better things for us this year.

He is part of a few senior players that I really think we cannot lose, along with Gerrard, Reina, Carragher, Lucas, Kuyt. Its great buying in young players but as shown at Arsenal, you need senior players of excellent quality to play with them.

I'd rather we forget Adams and keep Meireles.

Meireles struggled with the physical side of English football. I doubt many where impressed with his limp attempts at 50/50's etc. I do want him to stay and he played well in the second half of the season but he's not irreplaceable. I'm not sure I believe these stories about him leaving have any truth in them but if we where offered £13.5 mil for him I'd consider it.

if Raul leaving means we get charlie adams then I am all for it, Adams delivery from corners/set pieces with Carroll in the box to get on the end of them has got to be worth a few goals next season
