It's more the question of does he still have it in him, that's my concern. I have faith in Kenny, I just wonder if Gerrard's body has taken too much [punishment in nightclubs, and busted knuckles :P]

I don't see why he wouldn't. He looked pretty good in patches this season, particularly under Kenny, up until his injury. If he has lost a yard of pace, so what? He'll likely be playing exclusively at CM from now on, so it shouldn't make much difference. If anything, it might even make him a bit more reluctant to go off wandering about, following the game instead of letting it come to him. I'm looking forward to seeing him back in the team, and I reckon he can help take our play to another level.

While that's all well and good for the club didn't they say he could leave in the summer after staying in January? Seems pretty underhand to me...although we can let them off as they're chirpy Blackpool! ;)

I recall One Dave Bamber talking about this option when we were first being linked with Adam. They were always going to take the option up; it'll help them to get a decent fee.

Actually one criticism of my game was I ran about too much. Thing is when you have such pace and a quality engine it's hard to NOT run about ;)

Just for the memories...

Liverpool Thread 25 May 2005

UK Buckaroo - we hardly knew ye

Cheers for that. Good to read through a bit again.

This quote of mine before the game:

I don't want drama - I'd obviously like a comfortable win, but it ain't going be like that, obviously...

If only I knew what I was going to be in for.

I haven't seen his posts in there, but going off memory Buckaroo was being a massive cock in that thread. A 'RobinTripp', if you will.

Just read the 2005 CL win thread and really made me smile reading people's comments. Especially allege doom and gloom ones cause I knew what was about to come a few pages ahead.

Greatest footballing moment of my life, what I'd give to have been there that night.

Hopefully soon more glory will come our way

Ah Smicer. He was always one of the unreliables I referred to before. I always liked him, but never felt confident I could count on him. And then when it really mattered he delivered.

Good old Vlad, I remember his injury-time winner against Chelsea with fondness.

On the Owen talk, you always knew that he was respected by the fans rather than loved. He was nowhere near the finisher Fowler was either and let's be honest, many of his goals relied on him being able to run really fast. But score goals he did, and plenty of them (and scored far more headers than you'd imagine for such a shorty). He gave me hope back then that we might win things and did work really well with big old Emile. I was always thinking he'd beat Bobby Charlton's England goals record whilst still our player, too; I would have felt a bit more proud.

I do think it's a shame the way his career has gone. He actually did pretty well at Madrid and when it was possible that he might be coming back to us I wasn't unhappy about it, but injuries have cost him badly. I don't hate or begrudge him a medal though; I don't see any reason to.

Neither do i. i always wanted to see Owen do well at Madrid and Newcastle. Its very sad how his career has taken a down-turn in recent years. Its just that he an ex kop idol has won it with United. And has made very little meaningful contribution during the season so it isn't even that deservable.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the summer

Utd would have won the title if Owen had been there or not. 9 points ahead in the end. He contributed less than the kit man.

See, this is exactly the type of comment I don't get. Why do you care so much how little he contributed? Will you explode if Torres win a trophy with Chelsea?

So he plays for Man U, so what? However much it stings, they are a better club than us and anybody going there has more of a chance to win something. If he'd gone directly from us to them I guess I could understand it a bit more, but he left us 7 years ago!

Well why not care about it? Why should we adhere to the robotic logic you live by?

Perhaps we could have a 90 year old sir Alex as our manager, via Luton and Sputhend first? Great!

Being confused because someone has a different take on things says more about you than it does me.

What does being confused about your irrational hatred say about me then?

they are probably starting with a high asking price, wouldn't be suprised if they drop a £1m or £2m. Wouldn't be sad to see Ngog leave, its been clear for the last couple of seasons that he simply isn't good enough at this level.

- papers today are reporting that we are bidding £12m for Downing, i hope this means we haven't conceded losing Young to United :(

- Cattermole is another rumour, i rate him highly but don't know if we really need another cenbtral midfielder

- Blue agent Hodgson has apparently hijacked our bid for Brad Friedel in the last minute

I believe we do need another central midfielder but I think we should be looking for somebody creative. Call me crazy but I'd actually prefer Downing over Young. I think he's much more threatening from wide areas, would cost less - in both transfer fee and wages - and would just suit the squad better. If we got in Downing and somebody brilliant (I'm thinking more Sanchez/Mata/Hazard than Young) I'd be delighted.

I think Cattermole is a liability because he is always bloody suspended and I don't see him as any better than Spearing, especially with his superb end to the season. I think we should focus more on a winger and I'd say we could do with another centre back as I just don't think Skittle in particular is of the quality that is required to win the title.

I also think Downing for 12m would be decent buy, that's about his money and while he doesn't have the pace of Young I think he's got a nice range of passing and a decent shot.

our team is crying out for pace though. I feel sorry for Villa fans, if they lose both Downing and Young in the summer, talk about a disaster.

I'm not too bothered about getting a CB. Agger, Carra, Skyrtel with Wilson and Kelly coming through. I don't see any realistic options that would improve that for a reasonable price.

We're linked with Phil Jones.
