I don't understand all of it, but andersred does a good job on our rather worrying accounts. Swissramble took a look too, but I think this is the better one.

I've always been a Lucas fan. On my rare trips to Anfoeld I must have seen his better games. Delighted he's doing so well so regularly.

Also unlike the general Anfield fan feeling, I always liked Owen. More than Fowler, controversially. At a time when many of our players could be highly variable and profligate you knew you could relax when Owen got his one chance in 90 mins of a defensive European away masterclass. That calm deadly reliability eased my worries.

Shame the way things worked out. Glad I didn't have a boy and name him Owen.

That's part of the issue. We liked Owen; he turned out to be a ****.

On SSN now apparently Owen is saying that he can't understand why he's been constantly overlooked for England; doesn't get why Capello is ignoring him. And apparently he "still has hope" after Capello is leaving next year. Hey mike; you're always injured and hardly ever play!

What a dick.

At this rate I'm surprised he's not trying to sever links with England and play for Scotland.

Disagree, I was really getting into football when Owen first burst into the first team and while he was the star I always had a nagging feeling that he wasn't as ice cool as he came across. Fowler didn't have his pace, he wasn't as 'clean cut' but Robbie just lived goals. Owen always had his purple patches and I'll never forget him wasting a hat trick of chances in Leverkusen to put the tie to bed. :(

The last two years he was with us it was a joke.

Owen is that sort of person though isn't he? All cheeky and outwardly facing "I'm a nice guy"; secretly though he's a selfish prick.

They're the worse sorts.

There's a reason that after his umpteenth injury with us his nickname was EMO - England's Michael Owen.

Rather than prompt the silly season of asking who you think should be signed for next season, who do you think should be moved on? Also how many new faces do you feel are required, and what are the key positions that need to filled?

If we could get 2 wingers both with pace, ability to beat a man and good "game intelligence" (i.e. not someone with pace and not much else) who could whip in quality balls then I would be more than happy with that, even if we signed nobody else. A decent left back would be nice too.

Obvious people to leave: Cole, Poulsen, PFK, Jova (basically everyone Roy bought in apart from Raul).

Obvious names, really. Cole, PFK, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Jones, Degen, El Zhar... perhaps one of Soto/Skrtel if we get a new CB and depending on the type of CB we would buy.

Other than that...slim pickings. We don't have a big squad but they just don't/won't feature.

Aquilani is unlikely to come back but doesn't mean for sure. Same with Insua.

Key positions I think we can all agree on: two wingers, left back, centre back and central midfield for sure. If we get those then in no particular order (just depends on which targets we can get) another striker, another central midfielder and creative players for the wings/behind the strikers.

For all you dissing Owens medal - FUCK YOU - the guy is clinical, he would have scored 20+ if he had been used as much as Berbs. Its not his fault he is a bit part player the gaffer picks the team however to have him as part of our squad (played 30 matches last year, 15 odd this year) and he is 4th choice just shows how strong we are. He would be instant 1st choice at any other non CL-club.

First choice at liverpool? You sure mate? :quote:

Also the problem that he has is:

1. His fitness. I doubt he could have made as many appearances as berba to get his 20+ goals if he was still good enough or fit enough to stake his place in the team.

2. over his 47 appearances for you he has only netted 13 so what makes you believe he could magically score 20+ goals now? :sherlock:

3. The way he constantly comes across as a major dickhead.

4. I cannot think of a person more plagued with injury over recent years other than maybe an old aged pensioner.

Good day sir and try not to frequent this thread too much from now on. :hat:

In other news... I want Hulk and Young wearing red next season! :omg:

Garcia I miss. During that campaign he was super. The goal against leverkeusen was immense.

Always loved him. Sure he'd lose the ball occasionally but then score some ridiculous goal at an important time!

My Spurs-supporting friend sent me a text at half time saying 'ah well, at least there's the Intertoto!'

He's never been allowed to live it down. Happy 25th of May indeed :).

Haha! My Arsenal supporting mate also text me at half time saying "Maybe next year".

Then he phoned me during the 2006 FA Cup Final seconds before Gerrard ripped the ball home to equalise in stoppage time - I was screaming down the phone at him!

Good times.

Juventus and Spurs.

And Norwich.

And of course that net burster against Chelsea.

Hulk looks class but it looks like Young is going to the Mancs - and they can have him. Back to Hulk, how about this for a front three:

Suarez Carroll Hulk

If that were to happen and we got in another top class CM (or even just Aquilani back), and another wide player or two, I'd start to feel really confident for next season. I'm in complete agreement with SMD about the positions we need strengthening, and on the order of priority.

I'm wondering where Gerrard will fit into all of this. I'm really hoping he'll come back refreshed, trained, strong, and have one of his good seasons. If we can get him firing on all cylinders then we will scare the shite out of everyone else in the Prem.

What was posted earlier though; true that he's had leg problems/might not be able to bomb about now?

I have every confidence that Kenny will get him performing - just as he has done with everybody else that has featured since he came back.

Hulk as only just signed a nice shiny new contract at Porto.

It's more the question of does he still have it in him, that's my concern. I have faith in Kenny, I just wonder if Gerrard's body has taken too much [punishment in nightclubs, and busted knuckles :P]

What do people think of this story:

http://www.kopsource.com/blackpool-extend-charlie-adam-contract/

Blackpool Extend Charlie Adam Contract

Blackpool have been able to extend Charlie Adam’s contract by 12 months by activating a clause written into his previous deal. In theory this would give the player another season at Bloomfield Road, but in reality it is hugely unlikely to prevent the 25-year-old moving in the upcoming transfer window.

Both Liverpool and Spurs tried to sign Adam in January, but were rebuffed by Blackpool as they looked to keep their squad intact and secure their Premier League status. Having failed to do so, though, they will struggle to hold onto their star man after he shone so brightly over the course of the 2010/11 campaign.

Blackpool’s relegation will all but cancel out the increase to the Scot’s price tag as a result of his contract extension, so Liverpool are likely to return with a bid similar to the one that was turned down in the winter. Should the Seasiders choose to play hard ball then the Reds may have to up their offer to around £10m if they want to get their man.

While that's all well and good for the club didn't they say he could leave in the summer after staying in January? Seems pretty underhand to me...although we can let them off as they're chirpy Blackpool! ;)

Doubt they said anything like that, just people expected him to move on come the summer. Like any other club they'll want the best price they can get for any of their best players.

I remember Holloway said he could have his move [in summer] in a press conference after the window shut.

Its understandable yet if he'd activated a clause to help him leave I bet the club would have been disappointed etc.

Same as any club they're not a charity. They'll want the best price for a prize assest and that's what Adam is to them. I'm sure they'd let him move on clause activated or not, but that clause is saying we want top dolllar or piss off pretty much.
