Liverpool Football Club

He may also just be willing to accept a less important role because he's only getting short contract offers from less glamorous clubs, he's old, it's Liverpool, and Kenny Dalglish is a King amongst men. Crazy, I know.

For all you dissing Owens medal - FUCK YOU - the guy is clinical, he would have scored 20+ if he had been used as much as Berbs. Its not his fault he is a bit part player the gaffer picks the team however to have him as part of our squad (played 30 matches last year, 15 odd this year) and he is 4th choice just shows how strong we are. He would be instant 1st choice at any other non CL-club.

If Hargreaves gets to play 25 games in 4 years and people still are sorry for him, then Owen has every right to be in the squad and proud of giving his all when he comes on.

What the f...? He joined your club (on pay-per-play, because that's the only way Utd would take him), has hardly contributed, and shouts the loudest about his wonderful medal. He's a self-obsessed dick.

He would not be first choice anywhere - he tried that at Newcastle and check his record there. He's basically useless.

was injured throughout his Newcastle days thats hardly his fault - his record was good he finished top scorer for them and they would have kept him if they could.

I didn't want Owen at United and he hasn't done much to be fair. However, the goal he scored against Bolton this season was incredibly important for us, and he'll always be remembered for scoring the last minute winning goal against City last season. So not completely useless.

speaking of kits, are there any deals on either shirt?

The new ones? Don't think so. I saw the white away kit for £22 in the Liverpool ONE shop, mind.

Hey hey, guess who won player of the year award:

Lucas Leiva was today crowned the Standard Chartered Liverpool FC Player of the Season for 2010-11.

The Brazilian clinched the award after fans voted for their star man of the campaign on this website.

Lucas tallied an incredible 40 per cent of the 129,774 votes cast.

Dirk Kuyt was named as runner-up having amassed 25 per cent, with Pepe Reina third (10 per cent). Raul Meireles and Luis Suarez completed the top five.

2010-11 proved to be a watershed season for Lucas, who visibly grew in stature and confidence as the campaign progressed and he firmly established himself as one of Liverpool's most consistent performers.

The 24-year-old made a total of 47 appearances and though he mustered just one goal, it proved to be a spectacular one against Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League.

Upon being presented with the award at Melwood, Lucas told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I am very happy and really proud to have been picked by the fans.

"It shows they really appreciate the work I am doing for the team and I will remain the same - always giving 100 per cent in every single game and trying to achieve good things for this club, where I feel really good and want to be a winner.

"I think I am improving every single season, but of course this season has been special as an individual for me because I played with consistency. That's what I was looking for in the previous seasons."

He added: "I am really happy with the way I played and I would like to thank my teammates, without them I wouldn't get this kind of award, the staff for helping me every single day on the pitch to improve my abilities, and the fans because to be picked by them is really, really important for me."

The presentation of the award completes a turnaround in fortunes for Lucas, who by his own admission faced initial difficulties in trying to adapt to English football after arriving from Gremio in 2007.

Nonetheless, he believes he emerged a stronger player and person - something he proved on the pitch in 2010-11.

"I wouldn't have expected this (in my first season)," Lucas acknowledged. "The way I started my career at Liverpool wasn't the easiest, but as I have said before, I wouldn't change anything.

"The difficult times just made me stronger and stronger and I tried to improve all the time. That's what I am doing now.

"I am looking forward to next season and will try to come back better than I finished this season and try to help Liverpool to achieve good things.

"I would like to thank all the fans who voted for me. I am sure next season we will try to make all the fans happy and that's why we are here - to try and give them success."

This has pissed my dad off a bit ('they're all a bunch of idiots', says he) but it's totally deserved. Still definite room for improvement but he's been stellar, especially after getting quite a bit of shit from bad fans a few years back. Get in.

Somehow I doubt that going from being unquestionably the first choice England striker and European footballer of the year to poor man's galactico to making one meaningful contribution a season is quite the career path he dreamt of.

He's always been a delusional self-promoting arsehole - check out that video he made with Neville Southall back when he was about 18 or the sales brochure when he was leaving Newcastle which I don't doubt he wholeheartedly approved of - and as any lingering justification for it all slowly drains away it becomes more laughable by the post.

That single-handed FA Cup final win is one of my fondest, possibly most vivid football memories but I still never liked him much. I suspect this is not an uncommon sentiment amongst the fans of his various clubs.

He was no Robbie Fowler.

So glad to see Lucas get player of the year. If I was a kid, I'd be getting his name on my shirt for sure.

I've been taking stick off my none Liverpool friends for ages now after I celebrated his signing and last season announced him as my favourite player. That'll show them!

You're in the wrong thread fuckwad. Although fair play, with the amount of trolling in here recently (unchecked) it's pretty much open season in the other threads.

Great job mods!

Weird to see you on your knees taking the Owen jizz these days.

The irony is lost on me. Are you threatening to beat Michael Owen up...you and Dingbat?

Don't be so high and mighty Dripp. You're only jealous that you couldn't have a go yourself, but the keyboard attached to your wheel chair stops you from getting up - mind you that poking stick sellotaped to your head could be quite the weapon if you got close; especially due to it's brown twinge and Alex ferguson arse hairs that adorn it.
