Fucks sake, come on Liverpool sort it out, we need to win this. We've been playing very poor so far.

We'll get 5th if we win an Spurs draw won't we?

We won't win unless we pull out finger out though

Disappointed not to get fifth, but if you'd have offered me sixth place at the end of the season when we were in the bottom three, I'd have been more than happy.

Hopefully next season will see us get back in the top four.

I know we were completely in the crapper at one point, and I know Kenny has provided some belief and stability during his tenure, but I'm still really disappointed to not have any European football to look forward to next season. The last 2 games have been really poor and overall you'd say we didn't deserve to be anywhere near 5th (it was only Spurs own implosion that got us a sniff), but it still hurts.

I hope that next season we actually reverse the trend of recent years and actually have some good cup-runs, plus be challenging for *something* [depends on who we buy in the summer] in the league next year.

At least we can look forward now.

*sigh*

A fitting end to a fucking awful season.

Now that's a bit harsh, hold on. The past half season has been great, frankly. Our last two games have been rubbish, but

-Spurs played their best defensive game against us for the longest time (after 6 minutes of pressure) whilst we tried everything for the rest of the game (the penalty was a load of shite obviously), so I suppose it wasn't as bad as it might seem, even if Spurs deserved the victory.

-We were doing well against Villa until Reo-Coker's cynical foul on Spearing, putting him out of the game. Considering he's the reserve Gerrard our game went to pot without him, we were doing well until he hobbled off. And we had a great shot stopped on the line in questionable circumstances, so we deffo weren't second best.

After everything, 6th is a great reversal of fortune. Sad there's no European football but that was always a bonus. We'll hopefully make the right signings, add a bit more width where necessary. I'm sure we've got more chance of getting Young than United, mostly for the fact he'll be guaranteed first team footie.

It has been a season of shite though.

Rafa got sacked.

Half our squad went and whatever you want to say about them, the players we got in were worse bar Meireles who was played out of position by

Hodgson

The ownership saga

Torres being a dickhead

The raft of injuries thanks to having 4 players we simply could not use, £20m literally wasted.

As happy as I was with how Kenny turned things around I'm glad this pathetic excuse for a season is over and just want the next one to start without the -30 point handicap.

SMD is right, it has been a rubbish season. The Spurs game is kind-of our problem though - we just aren't great at breaking teams down. Look at how many points we dropped against teams that wanted to defend a bit - far, far too many.

I think the best example of the Kenny-effect is that it has convinced people that we should be really happy with 6th - well I'm not. The team worked really hard to get into a position to have European football next season and then blew it.

Roll on August.

Michael Owen on finally winning the Premier League with Man Utd: "They say if you can't beat them, join them ..."

Twat.

He's such a deluded fuck. You can tell we sting him because he never, ever talks about us, he practically denies he ever played for us. He talks about tweeting during our games because he "gets half as much abuse" and he says he's got kits for his kids from Newcastle, Real and United.

He just reminds me of those kids at school who hung around the popular kids but weren't ever asked to be there, just tolerated. He has no personality and keeps trying to make himself relevant.

Meanwhile, look at Fowler on Twitter. Absolutely legendary.

new season fresh start, i'm looking forward to it. last season was never going to be fantastic, but if i was offered 6th place, the cowboys dickheads out and dalglish as manager at the end of the season when we were lurking in relegation at the helm of hodgson i would have bitten off your hand and then drank some blood to wash it down with!

things are looking on the rise, we've had our shit spell and now things are getting sorted. not expecting miracles but i want top 4 of course. i feel like even putting a cheeky tenner on us to win the league next year just because it feels like destiny!

also i'm getting the new away shirt tomorrow or wednesday. really fancy that, looks gorgeous imo

RAWK transfer forum's already gone into meltdown because one of the 'ITK's has been shown up by that bastion of unbiased reporting Marca, suggesting that we aren't in fact getting Aguero but Real Madrid are.

I was actually wondering if he was even going to be eligible for a medal, so infrequent (and inconsequential) were his league appearances. His crowing about it and the photos on Twitter are so desperate it's untrue. I wonder if he actually believes, in private, that he's anything more than a fading echo of a brilliantly instinctive striker anymore.

Next Torres will be posting about how he single-handedly dragged Chelsea back into second spot after his comically overpriced arrival.

I find it hard to agree that it was a shit season purely because we saw the end of Hicks & Gilletts ownership of the club which in the long term could end being one of the most important weeks in the clubs history. We still don't know exactly how bad things were financially (I guess we'll have to wait for the lawsuits to hear more) but by all accounts if they had remained in charge administration was inevitable and who knows just how badly things could have gone after that.

There have been plenty of negatives and messing up the chance to get fifth when it was in the teams own hands was a very disappointing way to end the season but compared to this time last year the future looks much brighter.

And at least they didn't sign Carlton Cole back in August which was like a recurring nightmare the way it kept popping up on the BBCs transfer gossip.

Well I COULD beat him; where does he live?

From the footie thread Sunday:

Interesting to see Michael Owen there. A player more undeserving of a league title there has never been.

Although on twitter he did make the superb point that;

"Scoring twice against Arsenal I didn't get 2 FA Cup medals so I'll take a league medal!"

Utter cock monkey.

While it's fairly obvious he does seem to value himself rather too highly and his PL appearances were pretty fleeting I don't think it's fair to right off any influence at all, players with his experience can have a massive influence off the field. He could also play in the less meaningful games giving our main strikers a rest too!

The general impression of Gulacsi is that he wasn't good enough for Tranmere when he was on loan there, so I can't see him staying as a Liverpool player in the long-run either. In which case getting an experienced keeper as back-up is a sensible move. Surprised that Friedel would be happy to sit on a bench for most of his final 2 seasons though, if he does come.

I dunno, he's old and may want a decent pay cheque for just doing a bit of training?

Aye, maybe, but I never had him down as being like that, if you know what I mean. Some players are clearly happy to be second choice and keep picking up their paycheck but I wouldn't automatically have placed Friedel into that bracket.

Player/Coach deal maybe?

He was good enough to oust Brad Jones to become our 2nd choice keeper. I always thought he was very highly regarded by the club to be honest.

Friedel probably just isn't ready to retire full time but also maybe doesn't feel fit/fast enough to keep it up a full season. It maybe that 2 years of cup game/backup whilst getting paid is enough to finish off his career
