Alonso could pass his way into any side in the world. He is 29 now mind although he never had any pace to lose.

The real issue might be what wages he'd be after; is a 29 year old worth that? Anyone know what he's on...

Alonso is the best at what he does, he would improve any team. It is true we have other areas where the money should be spent first though. So it begs the question; how much are these people really expecting the owners to spend?

Alonso coming back (Twitter rumour sadly, even though it is popular) would be super, but I think he's happy at Real and doing a great job for them so I don't see why he'd want to return, even if he does admit that he's very fond of the club.

I'd be happy with Ashley Young this summer. We keep getting linked with Steven Defour - what are your thoughts on him? Can't say I am too familiar with him other than that he is an attacking central midfielder.

Twitter again:

Gazzetta Dello Sport report Juventus have ceased talks with Liverpool over the permanent transfer of Alberto Aquilani. wont pay €16m

Only 16m euros too. Well, frankly they can go jump if they can't stump up that much.

Probably, I'm guessing we can get a fair whack more than what they want to pay. I think Juve are skint now though?

Alonso return not true. Surprise!

[edit - also as suspected the pay would have been an issue. Better off investing in youngsters I'd say]

Edit 2:

Liverpool make Juan Mata a '£20m priority' in summer transfer market

Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Valencia winger Juan Mata, as Kenny Dalglish looks to start shaping next year’s title charge.

I'd rather have Aqua back than sign Charlie Adam. He's a great player, and he's managed to keep pretty fit this season by the sounds of it. He had 6 assists in 9 games for us last season, which is really good especially in the rubbish out of form team he was playing in. Who knows how good he could be in a rejuvenated team managed by Kenny. He's only 26 too.

Yes if a good offer came in and he wants to leave we should probably do it, but I don't think we should sell him off on the cheap.

If Juventus want Aquilani, they've had him for free for a year so they can fucking stump up the cash.

Otherwise he can come back and I'm sure whatever midfield merry go round happens in Serie A, some team will sign him. I heard Juve are looking into Pirlo or Montolivio, which means at least one of the Milan clubs will need a creative midfield player.

Not selling him on the cheap just because they can't afford him and he wants to go. It's not like other teams would afford us that luxury so we're not going to be transfer gimps any more.

He's not really done that great this season, his stats are average at best. We could do with letting go of anyone who isn't up to scratch.

He was playing really well in the first half of the season. His form dropped off in the second half but the same happened to most of the team. I agree with dizogg, I think he could be a success under Kenny and I'd have him back, no problem.

a few choice quotes i overheard my mate saying to my brother downstairs

"hodgson should have never gone to liverpool its not the right club for him, hes too much of a great manager for liverpool"

"what has dalglish ever done, really? hes already said he doesnt want the job and someone better should have it, why do you think he signed a 6 month contract and not 4 year?"

"benitez is shit i dont care what any of you liverpool fans say."

there was a few more than just made me shake my head, all dead serious too

DER DER DER DER DER

Gotta say there's some catchy as hell songs going on right now at Liverpools away games. Think I first noticed when you played Arsenal and City in short succession, sounded loud and proud. Obviously there's the "classics", but that Heartbeat one and Just Can't Get Enough are pretty inspired and sound fantastic, kinda how a football ground should sound in honesty.

Has it always been Duh duh duh Luis Suarez? I thought it was "Duh duh duh, Who Needs Torres" when I first heard it, against Chelsea I think? Only recently that I listened properly and heard the whole thing properly about "wears the red, just can't get enough" that I realised it was "Lew-issss" Suarez and not "Who needs Torres".

Still, at least Torres going means you can stop stealing the O'Shea song... ;)

Whilst I'm here must say that the team is looking quite good, I think miles better that it doesn't have Gerrard in it actually. Seems to be more team orientated than him smashing balls around, the manager has certainly got them playing. Was hugely impressed and quite shocked by just how well you played against City, Arsenal was a superbly gritty and determined performance. Those young lads have fitted in nicely, thought the fullbacks especially against Arsenal played well. Suarez is looking fantastic, though that wasn't a surprise. Not convinced by the clubs record buy personally, but there's time on his side.

a bit harsh, injuries have stopped him from geting out of the starting block, a full pre season under his belt and we should see what he can do next season. Plus he'll really beneift from a winger who can get some crosses in to the box for him which seems to be our priority in the summer. Still, he's scored twice as much as Torres has since his switch so... :hat:

I was at Arsenal as well :D Away fans tend to be less reserved and more up for a laugh, whereas at home it's spread over the ground and some people don't actually enjoy singing - which I think is bizarre, Monday night was amazing from start to finish. At Craven Cottage behind the stands where you get your half time pie (HA, if you leave before half time, the cunts) they've got tellies which show the highlights and we were celebrating the goals as if they were live. Didn't stop singing at all so the atmosphere just carried on straight into the second half.

I'd like to think we've always had catchy songs, off the top of my head there's the Luis Garcia song, La Bamba, Best Midfield in the World and of course the Torres bounce (so kindly reproduced by the Chelsea fans...sometimes...)

The words to the Luis Suarez song are:

His name is Suarez and he wears the famous Red

I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough

When he scores a volley or when he scores a head

I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough

He scores a goal and the Kop goes wild

And I just can't seem to get enough, SUAREZ

der der der derder der der der der derder der der der der derder LUIS SUAREZ

der der der derder der der der der derder der der der der derder LUIS SUAREZ

and repeat until all your limbs ache from jumping and singing...then a bit more. We honestly don't give two shits about Torres, he left, we beat Chelsea, we laughed at him and now no one sings anything to that tune because we've got a new hero now and he's actually better. Even though he doesn't score a goal a game, he just makes things happen and honestly he will tear defences apart in tandem with Carroll next season, because he doesn't go for glory, he just seems to want to win really badly.

Kenny's got us playing partly because that's his style and partly because no one can question him. We've all been surprised by the likes of Spearing stepping up as well as Maxi's goal scoring form, though the latter's always been quality but the movement hasn't been there. I've always said he needs to play in a team that plays intelligently and I feel like the whole team's form is vindication of that. Although Carra still seems to hoof it but we don't care :D

It's just amazing after the year that we've had that we're enjoying ourselves so much, no Liverpool fan wants the season to end.
