ed: I'm assuming it was a missed penalty because bbc's live scores is mental. It says it's 0 - 0, Adams (pen)...err :S mintes earlier it said "missed penalty", then it updated to 0 - 1, then back to 0 - 0.

on the main footy update page

Blackpool goal: Mental. Everything that happened in the last two minutes was b***** mental. Firstly, the visitors win a penalty when Michael Dawson handles inside his own area. Charlie Adam hammers the spot-kick goalwards, but Heurelho Gomes makes a stunning save low down to his left. From the corner, Gomes comes out, tries to catch once, can't, twice, can't, than Gary Taylor-Fletcher nicks it off him and Gomes brings the strike down. Unbelievably, we have another penalty. DJ Campbell tries to get the ball off Adam, but the Scot grabs it, puts the ball down, and smashes it with all his might into the other corner. Utterly amazing.

1905: GOAL Tottenham 0-1 Blackpool (Adam)

1905: Penalty to Blackpool (different one, not a re-take)

1904: Penalty saved by Heurelho Gomes

1903: Penalty to Blackpool

although oddly the league table and current score on the right were at 0-0 then just went to 1-1 ahead of the text  the updates seem a big laggy

A draw was bad because we want them to beat city.

They still have incentive, 6 points behind so beating them would mean just a 3 point gap with two matches to play.

We have to beat Spurs either way.

So, strange feeling watching the Man U game today. Obviously I'd rather they didn't win the title, but I can accept that they have been the best team in the land for nigh-on 20 years now and 12 titles for Fergie is a stunning feat - so fair-do's, we'll be playing catch-up for a little bit yet I guess.

But I *really* don't want them to win the Champions League; I think that'll hurt me more. Anybody else feel the same?

I hate it when the shits even score a goal.

We were 4 hours away from going bust with Hodgson in charge, Konchesky at left back and in the relegation zone.

We're finally getting our act together off the pitch and with Kenny in charge we look like we're sorting ourselves out on it. A mix of solid and promising players are touted to join us this summer, as well as our first in years where we have money to spend without needing to sell.

Fuck United, the Redmen are coming up the hill.

Indeed, they'll fall from their perch at some point. Ferguson won't hang around for much longer and then

I'm just catching up from MOTD from last night - Samba! What a beast! We should sign him.

Anyone from West Ham picking up I wonder. Parker?

we don't need any more central midfielders. Nah, theres no one in that team that looks like they will add anything to our squad

Personally I think Parker might be a bit past his prime. He seems knackered at the end of every match. Sure he runs around a lot, yet surely he should be fit enough to cope?

However as FM proves; you always need more midfielders!

He's knackered because he's been carrying the entire team for the rest of the season. Put him in a squad where he doesn't have to do that and can just concentrate on what he needs to do in his role and he would add a fair bit to any team in the premiership.

Been spring-cleaning my email today (rock 'n roll!) and found this from the club:

23 February 2007

Dear Supporter,

Re: Acquisition of Liverpool Football Club.

This month has seen an important milestone in the history of Liverpool Football Club following the announcement that Mr. George Gillett and Mr. Tom Hicks have acquired the majority shareholding of our Chairman, David Moores.

As we embark on a new and exciting era at Liverpool, I feel it is important that I write to you as a supporter to explain the decision behind the takeover, as well as sharing some initial thoughts on how we intend to move forward from here.

The search for the right investor has been an exhaustive process. The recent developments were the culmination of almost three years' intensive activity to secure a partner that would respect and uphold the traditions of a unique "football institution". From the start, this was our unequivocal goal. Allied to this, any prospective partner also had to match our passion and commitment to winning trophies. The approach from George Gillett and Tom Hicks demonstrated these qualities in abundance. "Success breeds success" is a philosophy that runs right throughout Anfield and with the additional knowledge, resources and credibility that both George and Tom bring to the Club, I am convinced our enviable record of honours and silverware will continue to grow over the years to come.

From the perspective of ownership, I believe the future of the Club is in very safe hands. The Gillett and Hicks families possess a tremendous regard and admiration for the standing that Liverpool is privileged to hold in football - not just here in England, but throughout the world. To them, our virtues, heritage and culture are precious assets that will help to inspire everyone connected with us to continue to strive for further success - both on and off the field. And yet in many ways the new acquisition spells "business as usual". Both George and Tom have expressed a tremendous faith and confidence in the people and resources that serve the Club so well, and I know that I speak for everyone in expressing my delight that David Moores has agreed to become Honorary Life - President, retaining a seat on the Board of Directors.

From the team perspective, funds will be made available for the manager to further strengthen what is already an excellent playing squad. In tandem with this, building work will start very soon on our new stadium complex in Stanley Park - the first tangible sign of the financial commitment and expertise in the construction and management of world-class sporting arenas that George and Tom provide.

In conclusion, I have every confidence that the time-honoured values of Liverpool Football Club will remain under careful stewardship as we eagerly anticipate the next chapter in our remarkable history. By the same token, I very much hope the Club can rely on the truly unique and outstanding support it is privileged to receive from all our supporters in the UK and around the world. It is on your incredible loyalty that Liverpool's success and reputation has been built.

If you have any questions or thoughts over the coming weeks, please do not hesitate to feed back to me via our Customer Services Department at customerservices@liverpoolfc.tv

Yours sincerely,

Rick Parry

Chief Executive, Liverpool Football Club

TLDR: hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I think our record under Mason is as bad as Man U's is good under Webb.

0.57 points per game. And I don't care what anybody says, it isn't a coincidence. He shouldn't be allowed to referee our games.

Lee Mason is a cock cheese of the highest order. He has to be the most arrogant ref in the league, his whole demeanor strikes me as being it's all about him.

Additionally, he has one of those faces you'd never tire of punching.

So no, I'm not pleased he's refereeing our game tonight.
