Liverpool FC confirmed today that Academy technical director Pep Segura will take charge of the reserve team for the remainder of the season and will be assisted by U16s coach Steve Cooper.

John McMahon has passed his responsibilities as reserve team manager to Pep with immediate effect.

A Liverpool FC spokesman said: "The Club have conducted a thorough review of all operations based at our Academy as part of our overall strategy to constantly improve our youth and professional player performance.

"We have a clear vision of the way ahead and a number of changes will now be put in place to help us to build on the considerable progress already made. Pep Segura will step in as reserve team manager on a temporary basis for the remainder of this term only, before a revised structure is put in place this summer. He will be assisted over the next few months by Steve Cooper."

Sounds like McMahon's coaching just didn't fit in with the new youth policy.

Anyone see Fergusons comments today?

What a fucktard.

I like how he says lots of Liverpool players were tweeting all over the place over Howard Webb. That was of course one player. Who got moved on.

Seriously, is he losing it a bit at the moment? I can't recall him getting this riled.

Dalglish had him nailed as long ago as 1988 when he said you would get more sense from his baby daughter than Ferguson.

Kenny is doing in a few short months that no manager has been able to do for years. Fergie has met his match. The best bit, the media don't seem like they have an angle on Kenny to knock him down either.

KENNY DALGLISH has been offered a two-year deal and substantial transfer funds to become Liverpool’s permanent manager.

The 60-year-old Kop legend, who has transformed the club’s fortunes since replacing the sacked Roy Hodgson in January, had asked American owners John W Henry and Tom Werner for a four-year deal.

Henry and Werner were reluctant to look beyond two years but have promised a review if progress continues to be made under Dalglish.

Sunday Express Sport can reveal that Steve Clarke, who was brought in as a coach to work alongside Dalglish by Damien Comolli, Liverpool’s director of football strategy, is on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

It is understood that Dalglish wants a lucrative financial package to compensate for a lack of long-term security. Those negotiations are still going on.

Anfield commercial director Ian Ayre has been the conduit between the owners and Dalglish, travelling to the USA last week.

Kenny Dalglish has been offered a two-year contract at Liverpool

Dalglish has told the Liverpool board he must have a hefty transfer kitty available this summer to strengthen his inherited squad. Henry and Werner displayed their commitment to the club in the January transfer window, splashing the £50 million they received from Chelsea for Fernando Torres on Ajax’s Luis Suarez and Newcastle’s Andy Carroll.

They have told Dalglish they will repeat their transfer largesse in the summer – Comolli is already working on a number of big-name targets.

The owners are delighted with the progress under Dalglish, culminating in last Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

While Dalglish hoped to be rewarded with a four-year contract, he is ready to say yes to a two-year deal, providing the figures add up – both personally and in the transfer market.

It's the Express, so probably take with a large pinch of salt.

Anyone else going to the Youth Cup game? 12pm kick off at Anfield, only £4 at the gate. It's on LFCTV for those who can't make it.

Express is met but there's no way Kenny won't get a permanent deal now.

I'd love to go but I'm in London for the foreseeable future and not going to have the dosh to go to Anfield for a while :(

We're not controlling the middle of midfield enough, letting them have too much of the ball, giving them time to turn etc. Still, 1-0 to us.

Sterling and Suso looking as good as ever. And we really should've had a penalty early on, handball right at the back of the box. Not surprised, as pretty much only the Kop could see it.

United fans let off a flare towards the end of the half. Stay classy.

Perhaps we can buy him back for £5 million as back-up for Suarez and Carroll.

Well he wouldn't get in ahead of Hat Trick Kuyt either...

Ngogs looked good since he came on.

How shit was Cole though? Fucker needs to lose a couple of stone before being allowed to play again.

Bigger waste of money than all of Man City.
