anyone have any news for when Carroll will be fit? it would be nice to see him on the bench for the west ham game

feeling a bit smug over the poor start Torres is having, it looks like those problems he's been having isn't due to being unhappy at Liverpool after all, i always had a feeling that those niggling injuries he kept picking up over the last few years had taken a bit off his pace and quickness and i don't think he's learned how to adapt to this yet. The problem at chelsea is that unlike us i doubt they'll set the team out specifically to get him goals.

I don't think that you can judge him after 2 games, especially where one was against a team who knew exactly how to play him.

Anyway, awful tonight following a disappointing game against Wigan too. We still just completely lack invention and width and didn't move the ball anywhere near quickly enough. Lucky Kenny is so well loved, eh? ;)

That was a quite typical performance from us (for an understrength side playing away in Europe); nothing to panic about. Wigan wasn't great but we still fashioned enough chances to win the game, should have had a penalty, and their goal was offside. And we were missing a few lads for that one as well.

Chill.

Recorded the game on sky, got to about 60 mins and it felt like one of those games. Fast forwarded the rest, 0-0 as I thought.

Saved myself half an hour, phew.

I'm certainly not panicking, on the contrary I've been fairly grounded since Kenny came in. Do you think tonight was better or worse than the Utrecht away game?

'Panic' was the wrong choice of words. I should have said 'criticise'. :)

Utrecht was one of the worst games of football I can remember seeing in my life. Tonight was poor, but we at least tried to pass the ball, and were able to retain a fair amount of possession. We definitely lacked threat, and the game was terrible to watch but the result wasn't bad, and I'm happy to just draw a line under it and move on.

While it wasn't a great game tonight, one bad game isn't a major problem. Kuyt and Ngog really lack a cutting edge though, they're just not good enough together and show why the money was spent on Carroll and Suarez. Cole was woeful as well, I had really high hopes for the guy but he's not started at all so far.

haha, I fell asleep in the 60th minute as well :D

That was one of the most boring games I've ever seen.

I'm going to the game next week, it better be much better than that. Hopefully Gerrard and Agger will be back and also no away goals.

Also, wish they'd scrap the Cup Tied rule, it's shit we can't use Suarez

We will have to put some more effort in to score at home so im sure itll be a better game. As for your other point, cup-tied is just another fucking ridiculous rule stuck in by Uefa to over complicate football. What use is it?

It was brought in before the transfer window rules was it not. Stopped teams trying to buy trophies, by getting players in before a certain match. For me I think you either scrap the cup tied rule, or the transfer window rule.

In other news I gave up after 45 minutes last night. Neither side had any creative edge.

Yeah, I think now that we have transfer windows and the 'can only play for 2 teams in a season' rule, as well as all the new rules about squads and home-grown/developed players, there is absolutely no reason for players to be cup tied in any competition.

I was there tonight and honestly we were crap, we showed again how lost we can be with the likes of Gerrard.

The Sparta Prague fans were immense and sang and jumped about throughout and I was glad to see that during YNWA, they just stood there and didn't boo, didn't try sing over, but just stood and took pictures.

Positives that I could see was Kuyt usual workhorse mentality and Joe Cole had a good game.

Negatives were Poulson (again) and Ngog who looked, slow, lazy and gave away so much ball. Also was it a penalty, as I was at the other end of the stadium and just saw him fall down like a fairy.

I was fuming at the end though when he took away Coles chance. After Cole does all the hard work, he's just about to pull the trigger and Ngog flies in, on his weak foot and shoots it directly into the keeper. Don't think I've ever been so angry at one of our own players (when being at Anfield) as I was tonight with Ngog, especially after doing that. It was pure greed and smacked of desperation to try and do something in what he knew was a poor game from himself. Also it could have costs us when they got that last minute free kick.

Glad we're through but it wasn't convincing in the slightest.

Have to disagree, Cole was pap and when he ducked out of that challenge on the keeper I was pissed off. His chance at the end summed up his night, just doesn't have the legs for top flight footy. Needs to either lose a lot of weight sharpish or forget about playing for us.

Ngog was alright, shooting was poor but a striker is going to take chances like that because if he doesn't then he hasn't got the mentality to play for us. Showed how badly we need Carroll and how much investment we need to make in attacking positions this summer.

From what I could see Ngog was terrible and everyone around me agreed. Coles chance at the end had nothing to do with "just not having the legs", he had the ball and his chance nicked form him by a greedy Ngog, who fucked it up in the process.

On the telly it looked like it was running away from him but I will always cede to the eyes at the ground :bye:

I think you lads are talking about two seperate chances.

N'Gog stole nipped in and took the ball off Cole just as he was about to shoot having beaten his man just inside the box. At which point Cole went metal at N'Gog for doing so.

The second was the break-away a couple of minutes later where Coles lack of fitness really showed up and he was out of breath, took a heavy touch and toe pocked it wide when he was on a one on one.
