"2345: Harry Redknapp confirms to Sky Sports News that Tottenham made a bid - that was accepted - for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam late in the day, but that the deal fell through because "a couple of Blackpool shareholders" just failed to get the necessary signatures on the paperwork in time. So near. So far. So Tottenham."

the twitching tax evader tried nicking our man!

why the hell does he need another midfielder for anyhow?

I was expecting him to go in the summer but hoped that somehow he could be convinced to give us another season. I honestly believed him when he said about Liverpool being his English team like Athletico in Spain and didn't see him joining another English club.

It's stupid but I do feel a bit gutted by it (

I know what you mean - though that is tempered by the fact that he has basically engineered all of this, which is more disappointing. Owen did the same, but whereas I think Owen was admired rather than loved, Torres was certainly a Kop favourite.

Still, he wants to win trophies (and get a nice pay-rise I guess) so you can't really blame him for that. I think his comment in his Chelsea interview about them being a team that is always fighting for everything is at the same time a cruel dig and very valid.

I honestly can't decide if it is worse to happen mid-season or in the summer though.

Owen ran his contract down resulting in us being bent over a barrel by Real Madrid. Torres signed a new contract even when he knew things weren't quite right at the club. I know the timing was poor but that was more down to Chelsea than him. I don't see any reason for him to be hated for his decision to leave. Maybe I won't feel the same about that if Carroll turns out to be a flop but I'm feeling pretty optimistic about him right now.

So what's the story with Insua then? I thought Hagi didn't want loan players so have Galatasaray bought him or sent him packing?

Not sure what to make of today's shenanigans really. The way Torres left was disappointing and the Carroll fee is insane but him and Suarez could work well as a partnership. At least we know FSG aren't afraid to spend a few bob.

I honestly had no hard feeling about him leaving I just think certain comments weren't needed and he could have shown Liverpool FC a bit more respect that's all.

You've been an apologist for Torres all season though. His disinterest in playing for us was all down to everybody but the lad himself. Whereas now we know he just didn't give a fuck. I don't hate him for asking for a transfer but the way he's behaved this season has been a total fucking disgrace. That's why the guy's a dick.

I know what you are saying, and I am genuinely gutted he has left us, but I think its a little sad and pathetic he felt the need to have a pop at Liverpool FC in his first interview. It's laughable he thinks Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the World, and Liverpool aren't, but I don't think there is a need for it. Everything else he said, sucking up to Drogba, saying Anelka was a bit of a hero etc, is fine, thats what you do to make a good first impression, but to take a swipe at your former employers, a club that apparently he loved, a manager that he idolised as a kid (apparently), just seems wrong.

I will no doubt always be gutted that he left, you want your best players to stay until retirement, but I think looking forward we are in a very good position to push on to greater things, to get back into the Champions League with a younger looking side. We now have a 22year old centre forward who has bags of potential and looks the real deal, a 24 year old forward who has scored tons of goals for Ajax, a young, improving forward in N'gog and experience from Kuyt, Gerrard, Carragher, Reina. Lucas has looked far more accomplished this year, Meireles is found his feet and looking 'a player' and Martin Kelly looks like a brilliant young prospect.

I notice as well we have signed on loan, to a view to buy, Connor Thomas who is 17 years old and is apparently a hot prospect from Coventry. Basically, our club is moving in the right direction, not spending over the odds for old talent, but bringing in a squad that can accomplish something for years to come. If we have to lose the odd player along the way who feels they can further their career and get trophies quicker at another club, then so be it, but hopefully we will prove these players wrong!

Now lets go on and get in the top 6 and win the Uefa Cup this year! :)

Did we ever actually have a bid accepted for Adam by the Blackpool board? If we did, but he then went and chose to try chasing Spurs instead of us at the last minute, the guy can get knotted in the summer.

Shame about Fernando - would have been OK with him leaving, but he's shown a real lack of class in that interview.

Torres said they were in talks for 12 days.

Feeling needled by the top-class remark. No need for that.

He's going to big it up for the new fans, not the old. Plus to avoid being seen as chasing the cash he's going to talk about moving in terms of big club/trophies.

Ah, well, all done and dusted. I've never been so mesmerised by the last day of the transfer window as I was yesterday. Mental.

I see that we're nine points behind Chelsea at the moment. Wouldn't it be sweet if we caught them this season. So sweet.

I can't help feeling a little bit had by Torres, I thought he was an untouchable, much like Gerrard and Carragher (yes, I know Gerrard brushed with leaving a while back but he was clearly in turmoil inside) - Torres on the other hand has been banging on about how he felt at home, how he loved the club and the fans and felt like he belonged. He'd never play for another English club apparently. Only for him to force our hand in an inconvienent way, just when we look like we're on the up, and signing decent players.

The stuff he spouted when he joined Liverpool, was a LOT different to how he spoke last night, and apart from a few cheap shots, he sounded completely gutted to me. He kept dropping key words that he had no problem saying about Liverpool.

If he'd had gone abroad, he would have gone with my blessing and a doff of the hat, but leaving to chelsea, and then saying "I've joined a top flight club", you're just taking the piss mate. Sure, they might be closer to winning stuff this season than us, but by that reckoning, why not join City? Surely they are one or two seasons away from winning stuff?

I hope Sunday, our fans and players don't let themselves down. Liverpool have class, and we should remember that. Players leave and we carry on. A few clever banners here and there would be fine, but lets not go about burning shirts like the dickheads paid on Sky Sports last night. It's very simple, beat Chelsea, don't shake that mercenaries hand, and leave stamford bridge with 3 points and two new players.

The guys left. It's fair enough be upset about it, but shaking hands at the of a game is as about as decent as football gets.

I'm massively disappointed that Torres is going as he really is one of those magical players that creates breathtaking goals but on the other hand starting to think that Carroll (with good service) is a defenders worst nightmare. He's a bit like Drogba in that respect but doesn't go to ground as easy.

I can suddenly see us scoring from set pieces which for the last few years haven't really delivered much for us.

I get the impression Suarez is a bit of a deadfall specialist, is this right?

Anyone else see this?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/feb/01/football-transfer-rumours-andy-carroll

Carroll said in texts he was basically forced out. He did want to stay, Ashley orchestrated it.

I'm not surprised at all it certainly felt like it when they came out saying "We dot want to sell".

One transfer request later and they did the fastest about turn in history since Nick Clegg.

Adam is apparently distraught that he wasn't allowed to leave...I hope for Blackpools sake he continues to stay at an impressive level for the remainder or the season. His own sake too - what are the chances of him going in the summer? May well be less now and he may well go for less. With potentially cheaper foreign signings available at seasons end will people want Adam; especially if he goes off the boil.

Well see what happens, I hope for everyones sake it turns out well.

It's a funny old game.

Some texts I got off a (distraught) Geordie friend:

£35m plus with a 25% sell on clause not bad, but he will be worth £60m in 2 years, a total one off.
I think he will be absolutely amazing, he could become an icon, people don't realise how good he is.
I would have Carroll over Torres, I know that sounds extreme but he is unplayable.

I'm a bit more excited now :)
