You've been crying for four years about negative spend and now you're crying because we're not going to have a negative spend.

You people

I'm not crying at all you Gary glitter! These are amazing times. Might be the coffee, whiskey, and mouthwash.

If City had signed Carroll (under the name Dzeko) and he'd performed how Carroll has for Newcastle so far this season would you be questioning the price tag?

11 goals in 19 games + assists? Yes please sir!

My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfill my deals. Now I feel Liverpool is my English club, the way Atletico is my Spanish club. I would not like to play for another English or Spanish club. This feeling is very important to me.

Has anyone else got a good feeling about all this? It feels like doubt has been removed from the team and we've got a lot of fresh young blood with a lot of potential (assuming all these deals go through)...As a team, we'll come out of this loads better.. Of course, part of me is wondering if all this will end in massive failure

Yeah well he's a footballer. He's gonna go and get paid more money at a club with a better chance of winning a trophy of some kind. Can we finally now put to bed the notion that there is any loyalty left in players? It's nonsense.

Btw, dunno if anyone has mentioned this, but it's probably worth bearing in mind that Carroll will be on significantly lower wages than Torres. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if it was half the money. Over the course of a few years, that's a big saving.

Exactly. The wage bill has been trimmed nicely. Now we just need to get rid of some deadwood in the summer (Jovanovic, Poulsen, Cole, Konchesky, etc), and we should have a nice pot to go towards a LB, LW and CB. And that's before FSG even put any of their own money in.

It's strange having an actual interest in the transfer window - I'm so used to just seeing Spurs go crazy (which may of course still happen). That said, there's always one real completely out-of-the blue deal - the Benzema rumour could be that deal if there was any truth in it.

As for the fees, well clearly they are insane. I'd say Adam is the bigger risk though and if it is £14m it's shocking. Carroll I think could well be a top player - if he curbs his dodgy temperament. He seems to be quite well-regarded by ex-pros and has power and can score with both feet. So yeah, what's not to like? Maybe we need a bit of English simplicity up front instead of relying on flair.

I agree with you, but I can't see we'd get decent money for any of them.

Apparently Carroll's been offered somewhere around £80k per week.

How long is Joe Cole's contract? I'd imagine he's picking up a hefty sum that other clubs will be reluctant to match?

He has three and a half years of a four year deal left. Stories in the summer said he was picking up about £90k a week. The only other club who were seriously interested in him in the summer were Spurs, who have since signed Van Der Vaart to play in that role.

Not sure about Jova being dead wood, he really hasn't had a fair crack and we don't have many left footed players.

Cole should go, though, he just doesn't have the fitness to play for us.

I agree but it doesn't look like he's going to get a go in this side. Perhaps I'm wrong and Kenny will have a look at him over the course of this season. All I'm saying is we still have a few players that can leave to trim the wage bill down again, and we'll be in a good financial position in the summer. So we overspent; so what? We've brought in some promising talent and the squad looks better than it did when the window opened. I'm looking forward to seeing what the forward play is like in 10-15 games.

I agree with you, but I can't see we'd get decent money for any of them.

We'd get nominal fees for all of them, but we'd save a lot in wages.

Can't see Benzema going anywhere -- Mourinho has been harping on for months that he needs a striker and that has only intensified since Higuain got injured. The board finally caved and got him Adebayor to shut him up, but that would be pretty pointless if they then let Benzema go. That would leave them with on loan Ade as their only recognised centre forward.

Re: Charlie Adam -- he's a class player. £14m maybe a bit OTT but he's worth in excess of £10m for sure.

I'd offer Houllier £12m and Joe Cole for Ashley Young

I think that'd hinge on Cole really. No one is likely to pay £90k a week to an out-of-sorts crock, so it depends on whether he still has ambitions to play regular football at a decent club, or whether he's gone down the Bogarde-esque route of "welp fuck it i'll just sit here and pick up my fat pay cheque for three years".
