I don't care if I get negged to death but you guys are fucking mental if you think this is a good signing. 35 million for someone as unproven as Carroll is just insane not to mention he appears to be a fucking headcase off the pitch, do you really think he's going to score 20 goals a season?

For that price I would expect it minimum, The 27mill City spent on Dzeko is looking like a bargain now!

Watch out for this quote coming back at you later on in the season.

In what sense? When you secure sixth spot you mean? ;)

In all seriousness I think he's a good player, I just think the prices been reported are a tad ridiculous thats all.

The problem is that the prices are so inflated it is ridiculous. How many strikers in history have cost more than £35m? At £35M Carroll would be the 8th most expensive transfer and 4th most expensive striker in history (assuming Torres goes for more). Compare his name to the others in the list and it is insane.

It doesnt really matter how good he turns out thats just a ridiculous fee given his experience, age and achievements.

The idea we could waste such a sum on someone is so difficult to take given what we have had to put up with over the past three seasons. Where would we be if Benitez had had £35M to spend the summer after we came 2nd?

I know this is all irrelevant and we have to just act in the best way for the current situation but surely we would be better off just keeping the £35M, trying to make do with Ngog, Kuyt, Suarez and Pacheco until the end of the season and try to get some value for our money then?

It'd be great if he did, but as has been metioned over and over and over and over he brings more to a team than just goals. So if the rest of the team are scoring because of his strengths, i'm not going to cry if he only scores 15.

EDIT: Just to clarify, i'm not positive he's going to be a massive success. But from what i've seen of him this season, and given that he's only 22, i'm genuinely excited by what he might be able to do at Liverpool.

So much for whatever I was saying the other day about canny purchases, about not overspending in your first deals so all subsequent deals are done at inflated prices. And means I can't console myself about Torres by thinking we got a good deal, as we've given the cash to Mike Ashley.

Still, it's the last window before FFP, so if as the Guardian suggests we're spending the cost of Blackburn Rovers on somebody who's currently injured by falling off a casino bar stool at 5am while ordering 30 Jaegarbombs, then I suppose now is the time to do it.

And it means we've got stupid money to spend. Woo! Don't spend it all at once, FSG!

The case for spending now is partly that this idea of hanging onto the money and spending it in the summer might be a rather naive one. I don't know if the club is in a position to sit on £50m until the summer and still have it available to spend. I doubt it.

It is a stupidly inflated price, but it's what happens when you're buying a young English player who is his club's best asset on January 31st from a club who knows you're desperate. It has very little to do with the player's value at all.

Fuck that.

For 35 mil he SHOULD be doing both jobs, like Tevez or Rooney (ignoring this bad season he's having).

Who's scoring record for Manchester United wasn't earth shattering. How many 20 goal seasons did he have at United?

EDIT: Going on Wiki 19 league goals in two seasons.

I know exactly what he's on about. I'd just take a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker who doesn't do anything else over a lanky striker who'll get you 10 but is good at defending corners. Goals win games. Simple as.

And that's all Andy Carroll offers? Come on. He caused our (admittedly shit) centre backs all sorts of problems at the Emirates this season. He's a real handful, holds the ball up very well, and will help the other attacking players around him a hell of a lot more than Darren bloody Bent would. I'm not saying he's worth anything like £35m normally, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

In that case just reduce our ticket prices to £0 for the rest of the season instead of buying Carroll. After our displays for the best part of the last season they deserve it more than Newcastle.

Anyone heard about Man U interested in Adam? Wouldnt be the first time we lose out on a signing to them cause we're too slow :(

Just put this in the football thread:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9380667.stm

Interesting, very interesting. Apparently the odds on Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam joining Manchester United have plummeted in the last few minutes. He is now 1/4 to go there and only 5/2 to join long-term suitors Liverpool. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said last week of course that Adam is "worth £10m for his corners alone". Watch this space.

Bookies take bets on where players are off to?

Rooney has only ever been truly prolific for you in one season. Coincidentally (or not), that was the season he spent playing as the point of attack, loitering near the box.

What are you on about? He's already scored 11 in 19 games. So why not.

I am positive about the Carroll news so far.

So cheer up you guys.

This is probably the most exciting day for LFC since the UCL win. Good times!

Everton lol?
