This is getting mental £35 million for Andy Carroll is fucking crazy. Benzema would be an intersting one as well though.

Doubt Benzema will be going. Madrid need as many strikers as possible. Plus both N-Gog and Adebayor both played in Europe this season, and they can only register one for the champions league.

There's only one way to find out...

FI...seems it's Carroll.

I'm glad someone got the reference :eyebrows:

Let them have a fight I say, if Torres leaves. :coffee:

Today encapsulates being a football fan, except it's those 90 minutes stretched out over a whole day with ups and downs, hopes raised and dashed, and probably a last minute winner...who will it be for though?

its a bargain - would be left with Ngog as our only proven premiership striker otherwise

I really think that Carroll will be a hit with us, a player that can hold the ball up well and have the midfielders/wingers playing off him

I've got nothing against Carroll, there's no doubting he's a very good player now; he's young and he'll get better. But it just smacks of utter last minute desperation.

When you're desperate you'll do crazy things. For that amount of money, this feels like a crazy thing.

He's not even worth 20 million, Bent would have been better for Liverpool.

Bent is basically an inferior version of Torres. I'm happy that we've gone for somebody that can compliment our other attacking players, and maybe get the most out of them.

Forgetting whether 35m is a ludicrous fee or not for a minute, if someone had suggested Torres out, Suarez, Carrol and Adam in i'd have been serious intrigued. For what looks like an outlay of about 15m, we've bolstered the team massively. Our options in midfield and attack will be excellent with those additions.

Agreed. Also: the new spending rules coming in this summer kind of forced our hand a bit.

You have no natural wingers, how is Carroll going to get service?

Bent is a proven premiership goalscorer, English and not tied to any european cups.

Long term I think Carroll would be a better buy than Bent. The fees for both are in the land of the insane though.

I'm not 100% on this, but i'm pretty sure he can score with his feet as well as his head.

Is it daft to suggest that bringing in a new type of forward changes the style of play? Ball retention higher up the pitch means the likes of Kuyt/Suarez/Johnson/Kelly can get in more advanced positions and put crosses in.

Kuyt's passing is excellent, including his crossing.

Bent offers nothing but goals. He's completely anonymous outside of the box. If you'd actually seen much of Carroll then you'd surely have noticed that he's not reliant on crosses into the box to score goals. He's scored more goals just chasing onto hopeful punts out of their half, than he has from crosses this season. Carroll is also 'English and not tied to any European cups', is he not?

Suarez will benefit greatly from having somebody that can hold the ball up and link up with him. So will Kuyt. So will our midfield. This could be a great signing for the team.

Although to be fair, I think we've just about broken even this window if Torres goes and Carroll, Suarez and Adam come in. #netspend

If Torres goes and Carroll is signed, our net spend will be £1m. So hopefully we'll see Adam plus another, maybe two?

Hopefully. :eyebrows:

I look forward to more 'neutrals' coming in here telling us that overspending on players is wrong/stupid/pointless.
