Maybe. But at the same time, he's young so if it works out he'd be a good long-term investment. I'd guess it's also a deal they feel like they could get done today - no point bidding for folks we have no chance of getting signed, sealed and delivered before the deadline.

I'm amazed they have rejected it - thought Ashley would snap that kind of money up.

£30m for Caroll is amazing; he's basically a shorter fatter Peter Crouch.

Mind you on a night out he's decent backup for Gerrard should the cap'n get into any issues about the musical choices on offer.

I heard the rumour might be twitter started, it does sound rubbish. This isn't football manager!

I agree with DeNeo; best bet is he stays. However the guardian are saying Torres merchandise has already been removed from the club shop website? Not checked myself, far too lazy for that :)

It's still bloody stupid selling your striker to someone in the same league. No matter the money. Andy Cole says hi.

If Torres wants to win trophies then he should F-off to Scotland :P well or Spain or Italy.

We need to get into Europe next season to keep some players and attract others. Suarez wasn't brought in to replace Torres, if anything he's going to replace Babel (playing on the 'wings' or behind the striker). I don't think we've got the firepower to get to 5th without a new striker.

5Live are reporting that Torres to Chelsea is a done deal.

£30m is a big bloody risk isn't it? On a player who's not proven at the top level, who's not done anything for his country, who could be a flop.
