I don't really see the point in him going now. I can't see him making a huge difference to Chelsea's season, I don't think he will win the Premiership with them this season. So if he still feels this way in the summer, than go in the summer. Going now doesn't benefit anyone that much surely?

Wow, here it is:

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/lfc-reject-torres-transfer-request

Liverpool FC have confirmed that Fernando Torres has on Friday evening submitted a transfer request. The request has been rejected.

The Club said in a statement: "Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool.

"Fernando is under a long-term contract and the Club expects him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement."

My cat is called Djimi... It fit him at the time.

My parents have a very old cat called Josh Kronfeld. My sister brought it home one day completely unannounced, and as she was still a schoolgirl at the time my dad (predictably) went ape shit and after he had calmed down he told her the only way it is going to be allowed to stay in the house is if she names it after a Rugby player (my dad lives, sleeps and breathes Rugby Union). The 1995 Rugby world cup was on at the time, and because she didnt want to call it Johna Lomu, it was christened Josh Kronfeld instead.

Anyway, I'll stop distracting you with all this talk of cats. Just remember, if you do sell Torres, dont try and buy any Villa players unless they are called Stephen Ireland please!

He's a top class striker who would be allowed to play for them in the champions league this season. Not many of them about.

Chelsea are in strange situation, they can't afford not to finish in the top 4 and come the summer when transfers will count towards FFP regs they will find it hard to replace the players they are likely to need to in the next couple of years*. I actually think this will pave the way for Drogba to move back to Marseille, possibly as early as this summer.

*This also works against Liverpool as they can get a better fee now than 6 months down the line and Torres would still want to leave.

Given the good form of Man City and Spurs, Chelsea also have a very realistic chance of finishing outside of the top four, something which has been inconceivable at Stamford Bridge pretty much since Roman took over in 2003. That combined with the fact that Chelsea do need to rebuild as all their key players are getting old at the same time and the financial fair play rules not counting in this window probably do mean Chelsea need to spend before the window closes. Torres makes a lot of sense from a Chelsea point of view.

IF it does happen, I can't think of a striker we could replace him with. Not interested in having Anelka as a replacement because his attitude stinks. Well we can't replace him until the summer. I don't understand why this is happening today, 3 days of the window left. I just feel really upset!

We'll have to look outside of the Prem, IMO. There are quality front men about, not many that can score as many as he does, though. I'd hope we would be looking for somebody that can bring a bit more to the side than just goals. Put it this way: I'd be happy for this to happen if we found someone that only scores half the goals Torres does, but manages to keep himself fit for 90% of the season, and is able to be more involved in the overall play.

Fernando Llorente would be close to the top of my list.

I think it's a bit of a disrespect to the club to do it so close to the end of the transfer window. Maybe he might do a Rooney or Tevez and make a U-turn.

But I'm surprised Chelsea have made a bid so late in the transfer window, where Liverpool have little chance of getting a decent replacement in.

I think it's a massive move that he's handed in a formal request to leave. Do you keep an unhappy player?

It would be nice to see a club not cave in under players demands each time, I fail to see how a contract helps the club these days.

This is a great chance for a club to take a stance. Player power in football has destroyed it.

Llorente or Lukaku would be great choices alongside a decent winger like Alexis Sanchez. I'm pretty sure Llorente was Madrid bound, but that might not happen now in the summer depending on the form of Adebayor. But they could get rid of Benzema. But if that money is put forward for a decent winger and striker then it would be decent business for Liverpool. You might not have the player who gets you the amount of goals that Torres does. But you will have more goal threat from the team if you have Gerrard, Suarez and two attacking players.

I can fully understand his reasons for wanting to go. Liverpool aren't in the position they were when he joined, Benitez was obviously a massive influence on his decision, and he probably feels he can rejuvinate his career elsewhere.

That said, the timing is shit. The new owners have shown they're willing to invest, team performances have improved and Torres form has picked up. If he's thinking long term I dont know why it can't wait til the end of the season.

If it's all true, as people keep saying, then i'm genuinely gutted.

Fuck him. If he doesnt wanna play for us lets take the £40-£50m and invest it in a left wing and some defence.

Claiming loyalty and then wanting to go for the 1st big offer. He's no better than the rest and i honestly thought he was

Clubs are just as bad in many respects, after all you've just seen Liverpool get rid of a manager after less than 6 months and just think of the shit storm if Hodgson could somehow have forced his way to staying as manager

Players can be cunts but it's the combined short-term outlook that so many clubs, players and to some extent fans, have that causes a lot of the issues.

Why are you surprised. It's Chelsea.

This talk about money is silly. Surely Torres would want to leave because Chelsea have a better chance of success?

(then again, I'm not financially driven as it is so maybe I don't get why someone with more money than they can spend would chase an extra few quid)

again i reiterate, torres going now will just be the final nail in an already shit season. There simply is no need to sell him, if he wants to go then fine but not until the summer where we'll have time to find an adequate replacement and can get multiple parties interested so we can reach a higher price. But not to a prem team, never, i'll be hurt if he lined up against us. I don't think i've ever taken a player to heart like i have torres; gerro, owen, fowler, carra, all great players but torres is the one i've loved.

I don't see how selling at this moment is to any benefit to us

P.S chelski have been almost as bad as us this season, my gran and her mates could take them. Why would he see them as an improvement? a couple more signings like Suarez and we'll be just as good as them next season

C'mon now, very few people were looking past Chelsea for the title until they fell apart in November. Liverpool have never been anywhere near that. Chelsea now look like they may be getting some form together, whereas Liverpool are still struggling to grind out results.

(I can't say I'm a fan of either side, though I did have a Liverpool bag when I stared secondary school about 15 years ago if that counts)
