Who the hell is SteBreeze?

No idea, but he did call it on Tuesday, which might suggest he knows something. Apparently it's from:

Basically, a friend of a friend who works in legals at club.

So, the usual story. As I said, I refuse to believe it's going to happen. But he did manage to predict it at least.

There's calling a transfer and there's calling a bid/news of a bid/speculation that the back pages will be filled with.

And forgive the further scepticism but if a bid has been rejected then how would anyone in the legal department know that today Torres would leave?

I'm guessing the bid wasn't rejected yesterday, that was just when news of it was leaked. So other bids could've been made since the original.

It's all a ploy to distract us from signing Suarez cause Chelsea are scared what will happen if we have both Torres and Suarez banging them in.

Although I refuse to believe anything about him leaving until it comes directly from Torres himself

i'll cry, because i'm in love with Torres and secondly because my dream of a Torres and Suarez duo will die

but screw this story, Torres always seems loyal i doubt he'll move to another prem club and i doubt the owners will risk the fan's wrath by selling him to one. And £35m? they are having a bubble, try doubling that Abramovich my ol' mucker

Perhaps but so far we've had Kenny categorically state he wouldn't be discussing transfers and only spoke about Babel when a bid was accepted.

I'm sure the whole country will be interested in that race for fifth place.

I'm talking more about next season and the long run. When we pull it back to where we should be, have a Torres/Suarez partnership and Chelsea already aged players get older and they start to get more challenges for the title and top 4.

Well, I'm not going to bore you guys with this so I'll just sum it up: the past few months have proven to me that very few journalists have a clue what really goes on at Liverpool. And I don't really care if news is leaked, as far as I'm concerned unless any player is paraded with the scarf over their head, the deal isn't done and that goes for incoming or outgoing.

It's the 28th of January, there are only a few more days left and we haven't got a game this weekend so hopefully there won't be too much distraction and we can just get on with our lives after.

No one's saying it's a done deal. Both reports say there's no buy out clause that could force a transfer, and there's no indication the club would accept any bid. Like I say I don't see the owners sanctioning a deal considering what it would do for their standing with the fans. If anything more likely they'll buy a couple of big names in the summer and that'll convince Torres to stay.

An earlier report stated there's a £50m release clause:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/28/liverpool-chelsea-fernando-torres

...it fell significantly short of the £50m release clause that Torres had inserted last summer in his Liverpool contract, which has two and a half years to run.

Or have I misunderstood what you're implying?

The thing is, could you really blame Torres? He's seen players arrive of the calibre of Jovanovic and Poulson. Meireles has taken a while to settle, Jo Cole has been injured for 5 years anyway...it must piss him off having to plough a lone furrow at times.

I don't want him to go yet I wouldn't be angry at the lad if he did.

It's just very odd timing really. We're finally in a good place, and no doubt the owners will splash the cash come the summer when the market is better, they're just being careful not to be ripped off in January.

The only niggle is that it'll probably be 2 years without Champions League football for him if he stays.

This is fantastic news and can only help Torres decision to stay.

I personally don't think he'd go anyway, if he was that unhappy he'd have put a request in at the begining of the season or the start of January.

I just wish Torres would come out and say he's staying

Should our players come out and say they're staying every time there are rumours?

What if they negotiate to leave the deal falls through?

Everything should be done behind closed doors.

I agree entirely.

But... I can't help but be one of the people that worries when these transfer rumours come about, I find the idea of a Liverpool-less Torres quite sad.

EDIT: I'm gonna leave that in to highlight my own stupidity... I meant Torres-less Liverpool, of course
