I don't get how he could have any impact other than from the bench for/against any top side. He has never had an outstading season, never fulfilled all the hype of his youth. He hit top form for few games for Chelsea one season under Mourinho in a side that was firing on all cylinders. Terry had a cheek saying he's the only man we have that can unlock defences for England and should be playing, if I was Capello he'd be out the team for those comments alone, let alone whatever he was thinking standing in a midfield position defending a goal-kick and leaving Klose completely unmarked. He's another jumped up cunt with too much mouth, like Gary Neville.

Totally agree one of the most over rated players ever.

When he chose to go to you guys instead of Spurs I was over the moon. Also we wouldn't have signed VDV if Cole had joined us.

Liverpool do it again!

And what is it with us about buying promising players and turning them into Donkeys or Work horses.

Kuyt from Striker to steam engine (with similar acceleration and turning circle), Babel from promising to bench polisher, Johnson from exciting to a one legged Gary Neville at 45, Torres from full of beans to full of lead.

And whatever happened to Mark Kennedy?

Harsh, considering he didn't say anything as stupid as Gerrard did when Cole arrived. I mean one thing praising him. Another thing saying he's as good as Messi.

In context, ever heard of that?

Jeez, he was just saying he's got some amazing tricks, not that he is as good a footballer than Messi.

But yeah, where the hell is Cole gone?!

"Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better"

Not entirely sure that context makes much difference.

He's quoted saying this

Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better.

Like fateone said. He only had one amazing season. Even though he's injured at the moment, I thought getting rid of Benayoun who was one of your better players for him was a mistake. And you were linked with VDV too. And I doubt Spurs would have signed him if they got Cole.

Lovely Van Der Vaart

I honestly think without him we would lucky to be in the top ten this season never mind the top 4.

Yeah without him you'd be bottom half youre a bunch of cloggers. ;)

(edit - to be clear I like watching Spurs play, it's an exciting side!)

By this reasoning had Liverpool picked up VDV they may as well have swapped places with Spurs. Hoggie would still be there as manager and Redknapp would be getting headaches.

Or not, Liverpool would still be languishing mid table with VDV. Ironically a lot of his goals come from Crouch. Another genius Liverpool decision there.

I was considering Dalglish as a former transfer mogul. He bought Barnes and Beardsley which worked out well, although fell out with Peter I believe, and the Sutton/Shearer partnership was great business. Remember when Sutton was £5m and massively expensive?

He even got good value out of David Speedie, relatively speaking.

Famously he wanted Roy Keane for Blackburn, yet Ferguson trumped him.

Can we expect any/many signings and any good ones this January?

------------

I was also considering the Blackpool game and how it was noted that "If Hodgeson had put out that side he'd have been crucified".

I think the difference is he is a new manager and after having the players in training and giving them different direction then he should have a look at them too.

I don't believe there's anything wrong with that, and he's not had a preseason with the players to prepare. Hodgeson did have that and he still had them playing like kneecaps.

I said he's never had one amazing season, which he hasn't. He was good for half a season at most. Regarding Terry it's not harsh at all, what I'm saying is, he tried to tell the manager that Cole should be playing, and also that he was the only hope we had of unlocking a defence!?? Gerrard was obviously trying to kick start Cole into a blistering start at Liverpool, and give the fans some hope.. right or wrong, it's what the captain should be doing. The two situations aren't even comparible IN CONTEXT.

I'm saying i really don't think Gerrard meant Cole is a better player than Messi. I reckon he meant he's got as many if not more tricks and flicks than Messi. That report quotes him, it doesnt show you the whole conversation? If he did say he was better then he'd obviously just taken a bang to the head!!

Like when Cole said Liverpool were the biggest club in the country. Just one of those things, right?

Are you a Spurs fan? I love how you lot are getting above your stations.. when VDV gets injured like Modric did when you over-relied on him, we'll all remember you're a kick and rush team (with Defoe)/long ball team (with Crouch), without any depth, and tactics as twitchy and eratic as your manager's face and tax returns.
