Flashes of decent play, which is about as much as we can expect after only four days of the new regime. Lack of creativity in the final third is showing though, but credit to Blackpool, they're playing a really high tempo and keeping us on our toes. Pretty good match thus far.

Poulsen and Jovanovic are quite terrible. Both look scared shitless when they're on the ball and tend to give it away as a result. It's obviously not their fault they aren't good football players, but I'm not sure they should be lining up in any premier league side, nevermind Liverpool.

Of course, I'd love if they prove me wrong in these last minutes and hammer a couple past the goalie.

Yeah, they're not playing too badly. The movement seems fine (exciting even) when it's not going through those 2...

Defensively we're crap, but then we've been that way all season. I'm putting that down to the defenders having a bad season, rather than being crap footballers like P&J. You dig?

Disappointing that we let our heads drop after some decent spells and never really looked like equalising, but well done Blackpool. We could do a lot worse than an injection of their passion and commitment to get back up and running again.

Disappointing, but Blackpool are actually a decent footballing side and played some good stuff. We were better confidence-wise, but our passing really let us down. Jovanovic amazingly survived the 90 minutes without being subbed. Poulsen applied himself well and played much better than of recent, but he just wasn't mobile enough against Blackpool's midfielders. The Lucas/Meireles combo's the one for me at the moment.

The one thing I would like from our defence is just to be settled, to get a pretty regular back four and just stick with it. I don't think we've had one since Skrtel and Carragher clashed heads at White Hart Lane during the first match of 09/10.

Two tricky away games and two defeats - Everton will be fancying their chances on Sunday. Hopefully, they'll get swept away with the occasion.

I hope so because the derby is usually quite a blood-and-thunder affair and a strong physical element and it's hard to see us compete with that at the minute.

Edit: it's interesting that this defeat - which, let's face it, is a bad one - only gets referred to as 'disappointing'. If Roy were still around I doubt that would be the case.

Just saying.

Because we played a hell of a lot better than we did in most of Roy's games in charge.

No I still think it's a joke regardless of who's in charge.

If nothing had happened with Hodgson last week and this was just another game under his stewardship, you could bet your house that they'd be people in here now kicking off.

It's the manner of it for me. Would I have referred to a second defeat in the Hodgson reign using such a mild word as 'disappointing'? Probably. But this is a different situation now with Dalglish coming in. He only got off the plane on the morning of the United game, had a 10 man team playing at Old Trafford on Sunday, had his team captain and best player suspended for three games as a result of that game, had to prepare the squad for a tricky away game three days later, only got his assistant installed the day before yesterday and has only really just met the squad. It's not as if he's been on a pre-season tour and gone to a training camp in Switzerland for two or three weeks.

He'll need to find his best team fast and rebuild the confidence of a group of players who have been steadily losing it for months (helped by their previous manager), along with every Tom, Dick and Harry telling them that they're a poor crop of players every time they pick up a paper or switch on the TV.

Our defence needs to get sorted badly (I personally think confidence and selection consistency are two of the bigger remedies in this area). And we need some semblance of quality play from our midfield. That's before we start talking about service to Torres.

In what way? I mean we lost to Blackpool and apparently Poulsen, Jova and the defense were poor. I mean, were we really playing much better? We couldn't have been playing THAT much better. Sure now and again you absolutely batter a team and lose. But that didn't happen here.

Now it would be no surprise really if we weren't playing much better - afterall he's only been there a couple of days. But it's the fact we're, according to some, playing much better and still losing, makes you wonder.

Are were playing more attacking football? Is that it? Less of the negative football from under Hodgson? Because if we are then, you know, with a record of two played and two lost maybe - for argument's sake - we might wanna be a bit more negative? Until we stop losing. Or none of it's true, we're not really playing much better.

Let's be honest here, Hodgson would've been slaughtered for tonight. Kenny won't be becuase we haven't made up our minds about Kenny without giving him a chance - but give it a few more games and I don't know.

It'll only take a few more results like tonight for us to start thinking WTF, he was rubbish at newcastle and Celtic, what were we thinking??

The first goal came about as a series of rookie, basic mistakes. Individual error after error that ended up in a cool finish from Taylor-Fletcher. It was a good game first half, we were toe to toe and we did look good going forward - Meireles wasn't at his best and just got worse in the second half, Kuyt was poor and Jova looked well short of match fitness.

Having said that, Torres looked much brighter, Kelly was a beast as usual and Agger was decent. Surprisingly Poulsen was okay, though he looked a bit crap in terms of positioning but still got in a few decent challenges and play some simple balls. We need a left winger badly and if Fabio's not going to play two games in a row then probably a left back too. Skrtel really needs to shape up, give him a run with Agger and hopefully get a partnership going. Otherwise, go cap in hand to Wolfsberg and get Kjaer.

As for the incredible discussion about Kenny vs Roy, this was the first time this season we really went at a team away. We never had a chance to get going at Old Trafford and he hasn't been in charge even a week.

Hodgson wouldn't have put out our team like that and we need to strengthen our attack more. Hopefully we'll see more of Pacheco to give us more invention but we really need to get Aquilani back or someone to play either attacking midfield or behind Nando.

Hang on, we battered Spurs in the first-half and were awful second-half; tonight we certainly didn't batter Blackpool and were still awful second-half.

Anyway, it isn't really a Kenny vs Roy discussion; I've made it clear in this thread I think that Roy should have had at least the season because anybody coming in has a real challenge ahead of them that may become a real burden. I'd go so far to say that if a currently-active manager had come in then they would be dragged down by the shape this season is taking, and would make it very difficult to turn around next season and beyond; I read an article the other day about how successful managers coming in during January are in turning around a clubs' fortunes (in either avoiding relegation or moving up the table) - and generally they aren't appreciably better than those they replace. Obviously I hope I'm wrong here.

I've also said that I really hope Kenny's status amongst the fans and the club isn't damaged, I think he's been too good a servant to the club to deserve that.

We were more attacking, the passing was more fluid, we were pressing higher. Defence wasn't too great. Jova was awful. Poulson wasn't too bad. It was individual errors that led to the goals. We were playing that much better than we did against the likes of Blackburn.

Both teams played well, all credit to Blackpool, they more than deserved it. It was a good game of football to watch.
