Just a word about this overblown positivity I'm supposed to be exhibiting, ramone - I said that the team looked more positive in a tactical fashion and outlined why. I was hardly desperately scrabbling around for positives.

I agree that we're suddenly not going to start sweeping all aside, but I certainly believe our results are going to improve. Time will tell.

It was the fact that you, miraculously, managed to sort of credit Benitez with yesterday's performance in way that Tomkins would be proud. Your conclusion being yesterday's apparent improvement was either because of Kenny or because the players reverted to Benitez' tactics all on their own. There was just no need for it.

I think any extra passion shown was because there was a new manager and we were playing Man U in the FA cup and we had to chase the game. Nothing more really.

I certainly hope results are going to improve and I think they will. They can't get any worse!

Well then you're far more ruthless than i'll ever be.

To flip things round, would you only consider that Sammy lee was doing a good job if we won the league?

I don't think I am. Is the fact he's a Liverpool legend affecting your thoughts? I think if a manager gets sacked he should take his backroom staff with him. That's basically it.

Not really, i'm not old enough to know what Sammy did for Liverpool in his playing days.

England liked what he was doing, Bolton liked what he was doing, and Liverpool liked him enough to bring him back after his spell at Bolton, so he must be doing something right.

But I'm not talking about passion, ramone. I'm not saying, "Yeah, they looked really fucking up for it today - playing like their lives depended on it! That's the Kenny Factor, yeeeah!" It's not related to the vagary of 'passion'; I was making an observation that they looked tactically different, playing in a style they used to, prior to this season. I haven't checked, but I'd speculate that the stats/chalkboards/whatever would back that up (not that they're the be-all-and-end-all, admittedly).

You seem quite angry about it.

We will forever disagree on this.

The fact is I think he should have went with Benitez. He must have bought into Benitez' ideas. He didn't go. Well surely he must've bought into what Hodgson was doing. If that's the case he should go with Hodgson.

Otherwise he must be a Yes Man. That would explain his career.

I mean if he's bringing something positve to Liverpool then I'd like to know where it is. Where is it?

But even if he was bringing something good somewhere in the background that wasn't visible on the pitch then I think he should still go. Because we want this to be a new beginning.

Prior to this season, that would be under Benitez. You can say it. You thought we were better yesterday because the players reverted to Benitez' tactics.

That's my point, I don't think we, as outsiders, can possibly quantify it.

On that, we agree :)

Is that the part that you find so disagreeable?

Yeah, I thought it ungracious and unnecessary.

Listen I know you adore Benitez and that's great, but he's gone and Hodgson's gone. Let's not look to the past. Was it you who suggested when we beat Chelsea it was because Roy used Rafa's tactics, anyway, let's not do that.

And the fucking fact we actually lost yesterday is the icing on the cake!

Like it or not, that's what I, and a lot of others saw yesterday. I'd say that you're looking for negatives as much as anyone is looking for positives. I'm also sure that you're quite partial to looking to the past.

Anyway...

I'm not looking for negatives! I didn't think we were bad yesterday but the penalty made it very difficult to gauge the whole game. So on the basis of yesterday's game I'm not coming out with WELL THAT WAS MILES BETTER THAN HODGSON. When we batter Blackpool, then I'll say it.

Anyway...

Someone should tell Sanchez that he needs to think before he speaks...

"...They have never won the Premier League..."

"...I remember when they used to win the Premier League and go on to win the European Cup in the same season.."

Either we have won the league, or we haven't.

Liverpool winning the Champions League was a joke, they hadn't even been close to being champions in about fifteen years and didn't even finish in the top four that season. It was a laughable.

Whilst I agree that ONLY the league champions should be in the European Cup, it wasn't a joke. The Final itself produced the greatest European Final many of us will ever get to witness.

The run to the final was littered with great performances and wonderful nights. While Liverpool may not have deserved to be in the competition (in my opinion), they were there under the current rules and were deserving of their place in the final.

The final was great, I agree, but the whole issue with regard to Liverpool not being champions for so long and that season not even finishing in a Champions League spot really irked me. There can't be anyone who saw them lift that trophy and thought 'well, they've really proved something tonight and are now the best team in Europe (or even one of the best)'. I'd have said exactly the same had United done that.

All that says to me is i'd hate to support a club that expects to win stuff ALL the time. You'll never experience what Liverpool fans experienced in 2005, on the way to, and during the final.

Yes because United never had a late, and arguably more unlikely, comeback in a CL final.

The guy is clearly on the wind up, no sane person thinks your victory was a 'joke'.

I wasn't just referring to the final, which of course is the only game United were against the ropes in the entirity of the 99 campaign.

I think he is being serious, as proven by his last post.

I knew a United would come in with the whole Bayern 99 thing, whooptydo, the WHOLE of 2005 was a rollercoaster of excitement for Liverpool fans and something i'll always look back on fondly.
