Not really. I agree that this incident shouldn't have been a penalty (obviously), but you shouldn't have to go to ground before a referee will give the penalty. That just encourages the diving culture we're currently experiencing.

If penalties were given more often when players kept on their feet we wouldn't see people flinging themselves about in the area as often as we do today.

I dont understand all the complaints about the penalty decision - Agger caught the back leg of Berbatov which caused him to stumble and fall on his next step. We have all had this happen to us numerous times, and it is clear this impeded Berbatov so it is a penalty. We were all defending the Gerrard penalty where he was impeded by jumping over a tackle vs Sheff Utd a few seasons ago which was much less clear cut than this one.

The Gerrard red card was a definite red too and you have to give Webb credit for having the confidence to get this decision right given the penalty decision earlier.

The Liverpool performance has been good, Dalglish has certainly got the players up for this. It is a shame the penalty and the red card has meant this is a massive uphill struggle.
